《Dancing In The Dark ✓》the confusion

Jenny's texts light up my phone screen when I put the pen down on my desk.

hey can you tell me the name of this girl in the photo? x

I click on the photo. It's a group shot from one of the parties from earlier this year, all grainy and drenched in LED lights. There's a face circled in bright turquoise, a face of a girl on the left with a lazy smile spread across her face. All ridiculously straight blonde hair and bright makeup, a revealing top on.

It's Laura. Laura Richards.

that's laura richards.

why?

idk if i'm allowed to tell so don't save this but the police want to know who josh left with

took me fucking ages to find a pic of her cuz i didn't know her name

oh ok

lmk if you need anything else

lmk if you need a casserole we have LOADS

i think i'll die eating casseroles

i'll let you know if i get hungry for casserole

I flick off Snapchat with a soft smile on my face. It quickly fades though.

If they're asking Jenny who Josh left with, they must be looking into Eden. Figuring out whether or not she could've done it like I said she did it. But if Laura Richards is the 'some girl' Josh left with, how did Eden manage to kill him? Laura and Eden aren't the types to collude, not at all. Laura is a party girl, one of Chantelle's chavs with a thick city centre accent and tight crop tops and her eyes on Josh. But Eden never goes to the kind of parties that the ones Laura loves. And interacting at school? Never.

I navigate to my conversation with Eden. The message I sent hurts to look at, how could I say that? Eve Hayden does not lose her cool and call people psycho bitches from hell. Eve Hayden is a ballerina for fuck's sake. And Eve Hayden does not refer to herself in third person. Anyway, I am a ballerina who is graceful and poised and everything else a dancer is. I am not reckless and stupid and careless. Not at all.

And Eden Davis? She's a loner, sure. She's a girl who also has a mother who was barely out of her teenage years when she had her. She was also smarter than most of her primary school class. She also grew up in the shitty block of flats a few streets away from our primary school. But somewhere along the way she ended up kind of twisted. But her reply, her reply says something completely different.

i'm so sorry

There's a new message, one that just came in.

heard you snitched to the police. don't worry i'm turning myself in.

I blink.

I reread the message.

wtf? what happened to all that covering it up bs you called me with??

things change.

She's not online anymore. She doesn't reply to any of the texts I send after that. Not even the one I most desperately want the answer to.

why did you want me to kill granger anyway??

eden?

I take a deep breath.

Something isn't right here.
