《The Diggory Sister || Draco Malfoy》84 - The Wedding

My heart filled with a mixture of happiness and sadness as I watched Fleur and Bill exchange their wedding vows.

They looked beautiful. They looked happy.

Fred squeezed my hand in his, giving me a tender look as we sat side by side. I fought back the tears that finally threatened to fall.

He knew that this was difficult for me, that it took me back to the day I married Draco. The happiest day of my life.

Where are you, Draco? I thought as my heart squeezed with pain. What are they doing to you now?

Two months had gone since I last saw him. Two horrendous months of fear and heartache.

Nova laughed delightedly on my lap when the congregation started clapping as Bill and Fleur were pronounced husband and wife. Her pudgy little hands imitated the rest of ours, making her squeal louder when she realised she too was successfully managing to make a noise.

"Fancy a dance, my lady?" Fred offered later, as we sat at the beautifully decorated tables, watching couples swaying to romantic music on the dance floor.

I looked down at Nova who had fallen asleep in my arms.

"Here, let me," Molly said keenly, offering out her hands. "I'll go and put her down. It's been an exhausting day for the poor mite. You and Fred go and enjoy yourselves."

My heart hammered uneasily in my chest. As much as I loved Molly, I didn't like anyone else putting Nova down in her cot but me.

Fred's hand tentatively touched my shoulder, clocking my hesitation.

"It's all right, Aurora." He assured me. "Mum'll take good care of her. She'll be okay."

Nodding, I reluctantly allowed Molly to take her from me, an instant emptiness filling me the second she was gone.

"It's okay to be worried," Fred said, as we danced. "Everyone is these days, but we've got to enjoy ourselves while we can."

We both looked sadly over to George, bandage covering one side of his head, as he morosely downed a firewhiskey.

"Harry asked me to go with him." I said, as we swayed on the spot, Fred cradling me delicately against him.

"What?!" Fred spat incredulously, a frown appearing on his normally relaxed and happy face, "he had no right to ask you!"

"Shhh, I said no." I assured him. "I'm not leaving Nova for the world. He's got Ron and Hermione."

"As much as I love ickle Ronnikins, I don't find leaving our futures in his hands remotely comforting." Fred chuckled.

And, as if proving his point, we watched as Ron tried to balance a tankard of Butterbeer on his head. And failed miserably.

For the first time in two months, I found myself laughing.

"It's so good to hear that," Fred grinned. I looked up into his eyes and felt a warmth spread from my heart, permeating through my entire body. "You don't laugh enough anymore."

And just as I thought that maybe life could be okay after all, shit happened.

"The Ministry has fallen. Scrimgeour is dead. They are coming."

My blood froze as screams filled the tent.

Fred's eyes met mine in horror as loud cracks in the air sounded around us. Black cloaked figures appeared, instantly grabbing people within their reach.

"NOVA!" I cried, ripping myself away out of Fred's arms, my heart in my throat.

I ran blindly through the screaming throng, somehow managing to avoid the hexes being thrown about, my thoughts only on my daughter as I raced towards the Burrow.

I took the stairs, two - three at a time, not stopping until I reached Fred and George's old room where Fred, Nova and I had currently been vacating.

Relief flooded me when I saw her little body laying in the cot, fast asleep and oblivious to the world.

I swept across the room to her, shakily picking her up in my arms. She stirred and emitted a little wail. I quickly soothed her, holding her protectively to me.

"It's okay, darling, Mummy's here." I whispered, my heart pounding fearfully in my chest.

And just as I was about to flick my wand and Disapparate us out of there, a loud bang erupted in the air and my wand flew out of my hand into one of a masked cloaked figure who had been waiting behind the door.

It was only then that I realised Molly was laying unconscious on the floor just out of sight on the other side of the bed.

"Well, well, well ," said a sinister male voice I did not recognise. "Look what we have here."

Even though I knew it was no use, I still had to try. So, holding Nova as tightly as I could, I ran with full pelt towards the door.

But hands grabbed me, and one second I was in the Burrow and the next I was not.
