《The Diggory Sister || Draco Malfoy》28 - His Last Request

There was some sort of commotion coming from the boys room.

Sighing wearily, I pocketed the moonstone, dragged myself off of the bed and left the room. I stepped gingerly down the hallway, pressing my ear against the door of the room two doors down.

"I SUPPOSE YOU'VE BEEN HAVING A REAL LAUGH, HAVEN'T YOU, ALL HOLED UP HERE TOGETHER!"

Well, I knew that voice.

I cautiously opened the door, and entered the room.

"FOUR WEEKS I'VE BEEN STUCK IN PRIVET DRIVE, NICKING PAPERS OUT OF BINS TO TRY AND FIND OUT WHAT'S BEEN GOING ON!"

"Hello, Harry."

Harry Potter wheeled around, his eyes agog as they landed on me.

"You're here, too?!"

"Her dad's in hospital, you know... since the funeral." Ron explained quickly on my behalf. "Mum's taken on her care over the summer."

"Oh, well funny I didn't know." Harry scoffed bitterly. "Seeing as nobody fucking bothered writing to me to explain."

"Harry, we keep trying to tell you - we're not allowed to write to anybody from here!" Hermione implored, near to tears. "It's a top secret location!"

And didn't I bloody know it. I had been cut off completely from Draco thanks to this very fact. I couldn't help but worry that he would be fretting about my silence. But there was no way of me letting him know I was okay, and that I loved him and missed him very much.

He was all I had left. I needed him. And yet I couldn't even tell him that.

"Nobody's been having a laugh, Harry." I said quietly, referring back to his previous outburst. "It's not been easy for any of us."

Harry's face flushed red. "I- uh, sorry, Aurora."

I cast my eyes downwards, not wanting to see the pity in his. I had had enough pity to last me a lifetime. All I wanted now was Draco. My chest literally ached with longing for him, to be in his arms, to hear his voice. Even just to exchange letters would be something. But I couldn't even do that.

He was the only thing close to being able to heal my extremely broken heart.

"Hello, Harry! We thought we heard your dulcet tones."

Fred and George had suddenly appeared out of nowhere, instantly ribbing Harry for being such a mardy bastard.

I turned away, leaving them all nattering about the Order of the Phoenix. I padded back to the room I shared with Ginny and Hermione, and curled back on my bed, clutching the moonstone in my hand once again.

I wondered what Draco was doing right at that moment. I wished with everything I had that I could have some way of communicating with him. But it seemed that I was just going to have to wait until September.

I don't know how long I'd been lying there when I heard a gentle knocking at my door, before it slowly creaked open.

"Aurora, can I have a word?"

It was Harry.

I shrugged, dragging myself up into a sitting position on my bed. Harry, taking this as an invitation, perched timidly on the end of my bed.

I watched as he nervously adjusted his glasses. For some reason, this caused me to feel a flicker of irritation.

"What is it, Harry?" I asked, rubbing the moonstone with my thumb, just wanting him to get on with it so he could leave me back in peace.

"It's about Cedric."

I froze. Everyone usually avoided saying his name around me. They all tried to act falsely cheery as if I hadn't just buried my brother and witnessed my father have a mental breakdown all on the same day.

"I don't know how much you know of what happened that night in the graveyard, but I'd like to talk to you about your brother, about his request."

"His request?"

This was news. My heart started thudding in trepidation. I didn't know if I wanted to hear this or not. No one had said anything to me about what had happened that night. Just that Cedric was killed by a Killing Curse on Voldemort's orders. A fact which the Ministry was trying desperately to cover up.

Harry swallowed, his hands fidgeting in his lap. "Right after Cedric was killed, I had a duel with Voldemort." I winced as Harry nonchalantly blurted out his name. "Something happened when our curses met, and Cedric, along with others that he had killed, came out of Voldemort's wand."

"Cedric came out of his wand?!" I asked, completely discombobulated. "You mean, as a- a ghost?"

"Not quite a ghost, but it was him." Harry looked at me, his face suddenly full of sadness and compassion as he said the next part very gently. "He- he asked me to take his body back to your father."

I felt a horrendous lump form in the back of my throat. I closed my eyes and clutched the moonstone in my hand very hard. What I wouldn't give to have Draco here with me.

"And that wasn't all," Harry whispered, and I sensed him lean forwards as I felt something touch the back of my hand. My eyes flew open in alarm to see that he had placed tentative fingertips there.

"What else?" I asked quickly, removing my hand away as if he'd burnt me.

"Aurora, he asked me to look out for you. And I promised him I would."

"You didn't even go to the funeral!"

"I know, I couldn't. Dumbledore had insisted I remain at Privet Drive." He said the headmaster's name with obvious bitterness. "But I'm here now, and so are you. So I can at least try and fulfil your brother's last request."

"I don't need looking after." Not by you, anyway. "Molly and Arthur have taken me into their care for the summer, and then I'll be at Hogwarts." With Draco.

"I promised your brother that I would though, so..." he shrugged his shoulders and sighed heavily at my evident lack of enthusiasm.

I moved the moonstone from one hand to the other, wishing Harry would just leave. But he remained sat there, on the edge of my bed, his shoulders slumped heavily as if he too felt exhausted by everything in life.

"It was quick, you know." He mumbled, staring down at the floor. "He didn't suffer, didn't even really see it coming. He was ready to fight, though. He wasn't afraid, like I was."

I blinked. And all of a sudden, as I looked at Harry, I realised I wanted to hear more. More about the night he and my brother shared.

About the Death Eaters he had faced.

I wanted to know everything.
