《Tour Guide | Steve Rogers ✓》Chapter Twelve

The tranquility of the Avengers recovering from the effects of the female Maximoff's mind-warping at Clint's farm was soon interrupted once everyone was aware of Nick Fury's sudden arrival at the farmhouse.
Quinn was left to stand slightly in the corner awkwardly as she seemed to be doing too often nowadays. She wasn't an Avenger by any means yet everyone seemed set on including her in as much 'Avengering business' as possible. So she settled from leaning against the kitchen wall next to Steve, her eyes briefly scanning the newcomer sleeping in the living room before flicking back to the kitchen.
It appeared that a lot of things had happened in Steve and Quinn's brief departure from the farmhouse.
Although the two of them had been joking about the sexual tension between Aquila and Natasha it seems that the two of them had taken it upon themselves to cause something to happen between them. Their usual dynamic was completely out of wack, in it's place were hidden glances and blushes.
On the other hand, something had also happened with Keira as her red, puffy eyes and the fact that Tony refused to let go of her explained that something terrible had happened; Keira's mother had suddenly died, also explaining the stranger on the couch, Bea Ross as Tony had eventually informed her, Keira's younger sister.
"Ultron took you folks out of play to buy himself time. My contacts all say he's building something. The amount of Vibranium he made off with, I don't think it's a just one thing." Fury began, his eye scanning everyone gathered in the kitchen.
"What about Ultron himself?" Steve asked.
"Ah," Fury said. "He's easy to track, he's everywhere. Guy's multiplying faster than a Catholic rabbit. Still doesn't help us get an angle on any of his plans though."
"Is he still going after the launch codes?" Stark replied.
Quinn only looked around the room slightly in confusion, as usual, she had no clue what was going on.
"Yes, he is but he's not making any headway."
"I cracked the Pentagon's firewall in high school on a dare." Tony boasted.
"Well, I contacted our friends at the Nexus about that," Fury replied.
"Nexus?" Steve asked as Quinn smiled at Steve's complete oblivion with anything slightly more technical than working an iPhone.

"What?" Aquila also asked, equally as confused.
"It's the World Internet Hub in Oslo," Bruce soon clarified for the sake of Steve and Aquila. "Every byte of data flows through there, fastest access on earth."
"Oh, okay," Aquila replied, pretending to understand even though the look on her face said something completely different.
"So, what'd they say?"
"He's fixated on the missiles, but the codes are constantly being changed."
"By whom?"
"Parties unknown."
"Do we have an ally?" Natasha asked suddenly.
"Ultron's got an enemy, that's not the same thing." Fury replied.
"Still, I'd pay folding money to know who it is," Aquila finally spoke up.
"I might need to visit Oslo," Tony said. "Find our unknown."
"Well, this is good times, boss, but I was kind of hoping when I saw you, you'd have something more than that," Nat said, her face falling slightly.
"I do, I have you." Fury replied with a shrug. "Back in the day, I had eyes everywhere, ears everywhere else. You kids had all the tech you could dream of. Here we all are, back on earth, with nothing but our wit and our will to save the world. Ultron says the Avengers are the only thing between him and his mission and whether or not he admits it, his mission is global destruction. All this, laid in a grave." Fury said, pausing for emphasis throughout his speech. "So stand, outwit the platinum bastard."
"Steve doesn't like that kind of talk," Nat teased, sending a mischievous look Steve's way as Quinn chuckled slightly under her breath. She had been more than informed from Aquila, from Clint and even from Tony in the end about Steve's language warning.
"You know what, Romanoff," Steve replied warningly, shooting a look behind him at Quinn who only looked up innocently at him.
"So, what does he want?" Fury asked, still pressing on, completely ignoring the two.
"To become better."
"Better than us." Aquila continued. "He keeps building bodies."
"Person bodies. The human form is inefficient, biologically speaking, we're outmoded. But he keeps coming back to it."
"When you two programmed him to protect the human race, you amazingly failed," Natasha said, earning herself a glare from Tony.

"They don't need to be protected," Bruce mumbled in realisation "They need to evolve. Ultron's going to evolve."
"How?"
"Has anybody been in contact with Helen Cho recently?"
And just like that, the Avengers in front of her were still fighting on despite what had been thrown at them. A plan was soon put in place for them to save the world again. Before they had the chance, Aquila a look of slight confusion crossing her face, asked a question.
"Who is that new person sleeping in the living room?"
"That's my younger sister," Keira said, finally speaking up.
"Your younger sister?" Steve asked Keira, shocked, sharing a glance with Quinn who only shrugged slightly in response.
"Yeah. Um. . .my mother. . " Keira trailed off, Tony's lips soon pressing into the side of her head in an attempt to calm her down. "My mother suddenly died, which leaves me as the guardian of Bea."
"I'm very sorry to hear that, Keira," Natasha said.
"If we can do anything to help, let us know." Aquila continued.
"Thanks."
It didn't take long for the Avengers to organize themselves together again, preparing for another fight once again.
Quinn still feeling a little out of place had settled for the living room where Keira's sister Bea was also watching everything happening in front of her with wide eyes.
"Hey, it's Bea isn't it?" Quinn clarified turning to the child who looked so tiny on the couch.
"Yeah, it is. Who are you?"
"I'm Quinn Greene. I'm a friend of everyone."
"So not an Avenger?"
"No, definitely not. I work at the Smithsonian." Quinn replied with a smile.
"Oh good," Bea said with a smile although it didn't quite reach her eyes. "I was wondering why I hadn't seen you before."
"Yeah," Quinn replied with a chuckle, her eyes soon finding the form of Steve's as he was prepping with Tony to leave once again.
"Is he your boyfriend?" Bea asked innocently following Quinn's gaze.
"Boyfriend? No!" Quinn denied slightly too quickly gaining her a look from Bea. "Just very good friends.
"Sure."
"You alright, Bea?" Keira's voice interrupted the two of them.
"Yeah, I'm all good. Just talking with Quinn."
Quinn soon rose to her feet, greeting Keira with a small smile. "I know that I don't know you that well but I'm so sorry for both of your losses. If there's anything I can do, please don't hesitate to contact me."
"Thank you, Quinn. It means a lot to both Bea and I." Keira replied smiling at the blonde. "That reminds me, Steve wanted to talk to you before you left."
"Steve?" Quinn checked, only to catch Bea's suggestive look out of the corner of her eye.
"Yeah."
"I hope that I'll see both of you soon then." Quinn farewell before walking towards where she had last seen Steve. "Steve, Keira said you wanted to see me?"
Steve suddenly whipped around, almost seeming nervous as he wiped his hands down on the pantlegs of his uniform.
"Yeah. I just wanted a chance to say goodbye before you left." Steve replied, opening his arms up to bring Quinn into a tight hug.
"It's all going to turn out fine," Quinn replied reassuringly as the two of them broke from the hug. "You guys will save the world like you always do."
"Yeah of course." Steve dismissed, before quickly getting Quinn's attention as she turned away towards her car. "Quinn? I have something quick to ask you?"
"Yeah, of course, what is it?" Quinn turned around, looking at him expectantly.
Steve only opened and shut his mouth a few times like a fish, whatever he was trying to say, failing him every time.
"Uh. . .um. . .uh. . . Do you like pineapple on pizza?" Steve suddenly blurted out.
Quinn could only look at him puzzlingly, confused by his strange behavior. "Um. . .yeah?"
"Ah awesome, cool, that's great," Steve replied quickly looking anywhere but her face.
"Are you alright, Steve? You're acting strange."
"Yeah, I'm fine." Steve replied with what he hoped was a reassuring smile, before shooting a glance over his shoulder at the team that had gathered by the Quinjet. "I better go. I'll call you."
"Yeah of course. I'll talk to you soon." Quinn replied watching Steve jog over to the awaiting Quinjet with a confused expression still present on her face, before it all suddenly came to her, her heart skipping a beat once more.
She knew exactly what Steve had been so nervous to tell her.

Apex Immortal: a LitRPG system rampage
"Across the multiverse where the contest for power is the only constant, only a handful have succeeded in reaching the ultimate heights of ascendency and gained the title Apex Immortal. Dominus is one of them, unsurpassed in overwhelming violence, feared across universes. Now, memories locked and stranded far away from everything he’d built, Dominus will face enemies that will challenge even his powers and discover that change is more difficult than destruction." I’ve been writing fiction on and off for the last decade and I’ve always wondered how a peak immortal (or an OP superhero) would single handedly conquer a world that mirrors our own in all of its complexity. As a politics nerd, this is my attempt at answering that question using Machiavelli’s “The Prince” as the primary playbook. The “monsters” are entire political systems with entrenched culture. Expect many versions of real world political systems (and cultures) to be on the hit list. The MC has to successfully institute regime and cultural change without engaging in wholesale genocide and causing the state to fail. Expect things to go wrong pretty quickly as escalating and cascading political and economic effects rapidly go out of control. Methods deployed are not for the faint hearted.

A Requiem For The End
Yuga wakes up on a cold, frigid land entirely covered in snow. Where was he? Who was he? Neither of these could he remember but he didn't have time to think of it, he could tell danger wasn't far. A quick death if he failed to avoid it. It was fast approaching and much as he tried to escape, it quickly caught up with him. Luckily he had survived, but was he just lucky or was there something more to him.....? A Requiem For The End is a fantasy story set in a world.......well, quite different from most stories you might have seen (I honestly don't know how to better describe it). Early into the story (prologue) the world feels elusive because you slowly learn about it through the eyes of Yuga. As you read on questions may arise in your mind and mysteries will present themselves. The answers to them will come the further you read. I'd like to think the plot is a bit larger than the average and same goes for the world building. If you find this story intriguing then all I can say is - There's a lot for me to tell, hop on?
