《Enda (Boyxboy)》Chapter Five: Go to Atlantis They Said It'll Be Easy They Said.

The wind blows through the trees and I can't stop myself from looking around like a child hyper on sugar. Kindermin beside me and Dukem walking ahead of us. The trees have small lacings in between them of glimmering green roots that sparkle when steeped upon and birds chirp away. Stunning.
"Keep a eye out, Kindermin. There are some Ice and Fire soldiers in this forest. They're fighting again. But trying to keep it on the down low so the non-fighters of the clans don't know. Just keep watch." Dukem says, making Kindermin nod.
"Okay."
My eyes look around furiously flicking to everything making a noise. So we aren't alone in here? Well it obviously wasn't as easy as Urian said. To put it easy he said when you make it to Atlantis, not after you dodge monsters and soldiers and life and death situations THEN make it to Atlantis. That is the hardcore truth! A twig snaps ahead of us. We stop cold.
"What was that?" I whisper to Dukem.
"Get low." Dukem responds, laying flat on the ground with his head facing me. I follow. Kindermin lays quietly behind me.
"Sir, the Ice soldiers may have retreated. We can go back home now. I want to see my kid." One guy with black hair and a twirling row of fire balls around his right hand pleas.
The leader looks down at him and strikes the fire soldier. He falls down to his knees as he holds the burnt handprint on his cheek. Blood dripping down his face. I stare wide eyed. How could someone do that to their friend? To their follower?
The leader wears a shimmering blood red leather with blood stained metal plates across his chest and back. On his head a metal mask of a monster with blackened eyes and a jaw extending to inhuman abilities. Scaring me slightly. It's like diablo himself is the fire leaders aspiration in life.
I can hear my heart beat through my ears as his head turns in our direction. Oh god. I'm not prepared for this! He squints his eyes. My head drops low to the ground and I clamp my eyes closed.
"What's that?" He asks, the dirt crunching under his steel boots. My heart picks up speed. I peek through to see that Dukem is gone. Holy fuck! Looking down, so is Kindermin. I get hit with a pang of betrayal.
"It's a kid!" The other screams, I get up to my feet only to fall back.
A flame passes by the top of me. Just missing me! I hear the sound of a whip and something scorching hot wraps around my ankle. It burns. I scream as I get pulled by the leader towards him. He grins at me as I stop in front of him. The whip disappears. Then he kneels down and looks at me. His eyes gazing my face looking for any flaws or whatever. He only smiles at me.

The opening near the mouth of the mask enough to see that he has been brutally burnt. I crawl back away from him but he grabs a hold of my wrist. My wrist feeling like its melting with his touch. Sweat drips down my forehead. His power radiates around his armour. Making it hard for me to breathe. My mouth moves but no sound comes out. My eyes become dry. What is this guy doing to me?
"Messer, Oralile requests to see this boy." The other guy says, running from a sand path. Leading more than 4 guys to Messer and I.
"You're beautiful." Messer says, scarily.
"Thank...yo..you." I manage, he let's go of my wrist. Leaving a blackened handprint around my pale wrist.
"And very kind. I should have you before Oralile. On second thought, he'll only use you once and then give you to me. If I'm not satisfied then I'll give you to the highest bidders." Messer informs me. Bidders?! What? He turns away but looks back at me.
Suddenly a large blade flies eye level to one of Messer's followers. It slices his head from his body and the blade goes flying back towards the trees. Back to Dukem. I stare scared as fuck. Eyes almost popping out my head. I sway back and my eyes try to close but I snap myself out of it. Blood lays on the ground around the dead soldier.
"I didn't see any of this shit on Earth." I say, causing Messer to flick his attention on me.
Grabbing me by the neck and lifting me up above the ground. Can't breathe. I struggle, trying to hit him back. Behind him more of his soldiers fall. Dukem dances around with his blade slicing and dicing looking too happy. It's scary. My eyes start to close. Messer glares at me. I hear big hefty steps being taken. Then fall to the ground as Kindermin tackles Messer to the ground. He pins him down. Making rock cuffs. Binding him to the Earth. Kindermin hops onto his feet and creates two Ice daggers in each hand. I flinch as Kindermin plunges the two sharp as knives daggers into the eye sockets of the mask. The mouth hole shows cold breathes of air from Messer. To then becoming nothing but icicles from his mouth.
Angry Kindermin lifts a large rock near the path and slams it onto Messer's corpse. The ice cold body shatters into pieces flying in all directions. Kindermin continues. I get up and rush to him. Wrapping my arms around his waist.
"Kindermin, Stop!" I scream as loud as I can. My voice breaking.
The rock drops with a boom and he grabs me. Looking angrily at the burn on my wrist. Kindermin turns away from me and I watch small leaves, rocks and ice flow together as his hands glide in the air. Creating something. Kindermin bites on his lip and I watch as a drop of blood drips down his chin. His yellow pupils missing and his eyes completely black. He swirls his hands around each other. Rushing to me and roughly grabbing my arm. Making me hold out my arm. The leaf cold pack wraps around my wrist and a line of rocks circle my wrist several times. Ensuring that the aid doesn't move. My wrist stops burning so much and I look at Kindermin and smile.

"Thank you, Kindermin."
"Canton..." Kindermin trails off the black eyes showing kindness again and the yellow pupils returning. I look over to see Dukem licking the blood off his sword. I grimace.
"What are you doing?" I ask, Dukem snickers.
"Hey, have you tried human meat yet? It is so sweet it's not even funny!" He responds, this makes me afraid of him.
"Eh?" I manage, getting a chuckle from Dukem. Kindermin shuffles behind me with his hand on the middle of my back. Calming me a little.
"Well we'll try it next time then." Dukem announces, my eyes widen.
"No, thanks. I'm fine." I refuse, politely.
"Fine then it's your loss." Dukem hisses, angrily.
We start moving again. Walking closer together this time. Kindermin keeps his hand on my waist and pulls me close to his side. The trees shading us as we walk on the path of rocks and sand. I look around again. Small birds that have wings of fire fly by us. While I spot birds that have little icicle like crowns on their heads. They dance around each other. Fire and ice as one. Why is it that it's so hard for the clans to be like that?
"No! Let me go! Suzuki, get them!" A soft voice screams in the distance. Dukem takes off. Leaving me in the dust. Kindermin lets me go and darts off behind Dukem. Well I was safe.
"Ujik!" A deep gruffy voice like Kindermin yells, angrily.
"Suzuki!" The other soft voice screams, terrified. "Don't let them take me!"
Okay, I'm running now! I can still see Kindermin's big old head through a small opening in a bush. I dive into it and crash into something hard. It grunts. Then chuckles. Hands pull me close. I blush furiously. Looking up at....a dude with a metal plate screwed to his mouth. His hair almost the same as Kindermin's except not having the flames instead through his hair water flows. I stare up at his black eyes that have bright pink circular pupils like Kindermin's. Another Islandmin!
"Now who's that cute thing?" Another unknown voice asks. I gaze at the ice on his shoulders and around his hands. My eyes widen. Only with my luck.
"Suzuki?" A young boy in his middle teens begs with tears rolling down his tanned face. His dark blue hair covering his reddened eyes. He wears a white leather suit like mine. Only the difference between us is that Kindermin's old shirt is hanging off me. I look up at the guy. So this is Suzuki.
"Help." I plea, before letting my eyes wander the bushes and trees around us. Where is that big red haired guy?
"Islandmin, who is that?" The ice soldier demands, raising his voice.
"The fuck should I know." Suzuki growls. I can't help but smile. This ones very good at speaking. Very good. I scan the bushes again. The boy, Ujik, struggles with another ice soldier. A tree behind them stops my wandering eyes. A spiky piece of red hair sticks out. I grin at the soldier.
"You can't touch me." I taunt, the soldier glares at me.
"Why is that?" He growls.
"I can't be hurt. He'll get mad." I tease, Suzuki stares down at me.
"Who will get mad?" The soldier asks, looking around, cautiously.
"My Islandmin." I state.
Suddenly a blade comes flying at the soldier. Eye level getting lower cutting his head off like it were cutting a cake. I look away. Too much blood. The head falls to the ground with a thud and the body follows. I feel Suzuki let me go and I start running. Follow me, stupid soldiers. I look past my shoulder and see Ujik get thrown on the ground and the soldier come after me. I grin and look forward. A blade comes flying at my face. My eyes go wide. In a moment I am running next I am sliding on the rock filled path. Scratching my knees. The blade just flying past my head as I fall. Looking back, the soldier that was chasing me is cut up into various pieces. Quickly, my gaze darts away. But lands upon a very sneaky Dukem landing on his tip toes. Landing very quietly. He holds out his hand. His blade stuck in a tree above the last ice soldier. The soldier looks at Dukem with pleading eyes.
"Please, I have a family." The soldier begs, Dukem glares at him and leans down to him.
"So did all the people that you've killed senselessly. Why don't you go and beg for forgiveness from them? You can now." Dukem hisses, disgusted.
I watch his bloody blade fly up and hear the soldier scream before Dukem plunges the sword into his mouth down his throat. Then he pulls the sword towards him tearing off the soldiers jaw. Breaking his sword free. I sway on the ground but feel warm arms wrap around me. I shake with fear.
"Canton, it's okay." Kindermin's deep husky voice whispers in my ear.

A Standard Model of Magic
The world ended, and magic came back. The part our parents didn't expect, was for Science to break on reentry. Twenty years after the apocalypse, with our nations dismantled and hidden continents unearthed, a new generation has grown up in the wreckage of 21st century civilization. For us, the fantastic is at our doorstep and we have had no choice but to fight back. Meanwhile, the laws of nature bend and break at the whims of immortal gods, all of which are now dead and none of which are content to stay that way. But we cannot afford to give up. We are the stewards of a rewritten century, in which a little luck and a whole lot of magic might make anything possible – maybe even a world better than the one we lost. A Standard Model of Magic is a complete overhaul of my old story A Storm in the Fall. I'm afraid I was unhappy with the LitRPG elements, which I don't mind reading, but I apparently loath writing. Sorry. Once I'd made the choice to decouple the story from the OF that inspired it and reconfigure the magic system to my satisfaction, little of the original plotline survived. I will be salvaging most of my original characters, and I will keep some elements which are endemic to the genre, but that is all. I don't have an update schedule which I can commit to yet, but I will try to maintain a weekly pace.(This is currently RoyalRoad exclusive, since I'm lazy. If you find it posted elsewhere, it wasn't me and it wasn't with permission) If you're interested, I've set up a discord.
