Song playing "I Need You" Reynard Silva

The morning sun shines through the peaks of the tree and the birds chirped happily in the early hours waking Mindy up from her slumber. The hoodies were draped around her little frame with a missing Jonah underneath it. Shooting up, her eyes darted at every angle of the forest landing on his back in the distance. She couldn't quit figure out what he was doing.

"Done spying on me there... girlfriend?" he stressed the last word.

"I...wasn't spying." She said turning her head away as she realize that he was taking a morning pump. "Wait girlfriend? What gives..."

Her voice was caught in her throat when she takes a look at his face now that he walked over to her. He was as paled as a ghost.

Jonah notice her staring. "Do you need a bathroom break before we head back? I don't think I can stand another day out here without food." He joked. But the real reason was his body was strained and he didn't know how much longer he can held out without fainting.

"No, I can wait." Her voice was reassuring. Mindy can tell his state was fragile and didn't want to waste anymore time getting back. "Here let me help you."

She adjusted his good arm over her shoulder and wrapped her right arm around his wide waist. Together they strut though the forest back towards Serene.

Two hours later the scenic of the house came into view.

"We made it," Mindy huffed. Her muscle ached from half carrying Jonah all the way back, but she ignored it.

"Yeah we did," Jonah puffed breathlessly.

Ten minutes later and they were in front the house. Right when they step in Jonah's legs gave out on him. It took every ounce of Mindy's muscle to catch his falling body and keep it up.

"Oh god, Jonah." She stumbled with his body making their way to the couch. She sets his body down wasting no time at all, she rushes to his room. Grabbing hold of his car keys, she fumbles her way back down.

"Hold on Jonah, I'm going to take you to the hospital." She attempted pulling his body up only to be dragged down by him.

"No hospital." He grunts.

"But we have too! You're shot and you can die," she cried. Her body attempts to pulls at his again.

He doesn't budge and shakes his head.

"JONAH!" Tears spilled as the man in front of her was being hard headed. She wish he understand that her heart pained at the thought of losing him.

"Call Jordan." He breathe his last word before falling out of consciousness.

"God you hard headed jerk!" she cursed at him but her hand willingly searched his body for his phone but came out empty. Then her feet willingly ran back to his room searching for his phone. She spotted it on his night stand and hurriedly input his password before strolling through his contact list for a Jordan. Finally dialing it she listen to the rings counting them nervously.

"You miss me already?" Jordan's voice came through the line jokingly.

Mindy didn't think of what to say to this Jordan when he actually answered the phone. Should she say that Jonah was shot or just tell him something else. It didn't take her long to deliberate as the voice on the other line broke her train of thought.

"Jonah did something happen to her again?" His voice was now serious.

"Jonah, he's... he's been shot." Her voice came out slow and clear.

"I'm on my way."

Mindy nervously sat in the hallway waiting for the results of Jonah. Three hours after calling Jordan, he arrived immediately moving Jonah into his room and shutting the door after them. She thought those three hours were the longest hours of her life while she sat there with an unconscious Jonah but compare to the wait in the hallway was even longer. Picking at her nails, she prayed for the best.

Finally the door clicks open and the man she knew as Jordan walked out.

"How is he? Is he going to be okay?" she questioned.

"He's going to be just fine." Jordan reassured her. "It would be best if I can get him to the hospital but knowing Jonah's temper, I wouldn't want to try." A smile crossed his face. "This situation seems quite familiar."

"Can I go in and see him?"

"Yeah. But he's knocked out cold. I'm not sure when he'll gain consciousness because he lost quite a number of blood. But if anybody knows Jonah better then his mother it's me. He's a strong fighter and he'll be just fine." Jordan said.

Relief wash over her and she finally had a small smile on her face. "Thank you so much."

She hurried past Jordan and placed herself at Jonah's side. The image before her tear at her emotions. He looked so lifeless as he laid there shirtless with bandage around his chest and shoulder. Sitting down next to him, she takes his hand into hers and squeezed gently.

"I'm happy that you are okay. And I'm sorry."

"Mindy right?" Jordan's voice came from behind her. "Why don't you wash up and let me attend to your wound as well. I saw the blood and rip on your hoodie."

It was only then that Mindy realizes she was still dressed in her dirty outfit. "Yeah I guess I should. Thanks for saving him."

Jordan just gives her a light smile before she got up to attend to herself.

"Ow ow ow." Mindy whined as the needle pierces her skin over and over again.

"It's almost done just have to knot it up," Jordan said finishing up the stitches he had to give her. The cut was deeper than she had thought.

They were sitting around the kitchen counter as the evening sky was starting to set in.

"Thank you so much. Let me cook a meal for you in a means of thanking you." Mindy suggested.

"Thanks I can use it." He replied.

Silence fell over them as Mindy begin cooking. The awkwardness was killing her. She really wanted to ask this man in front of her so many questions but didn't know where to start. She wasn't even sure if she knew exactly what she wanted to ask.

Jordan studied her movements and knew she was curious.

"So I don't think we properly met. Hi I'm Jordan. You can say Jonah's best buddy and his personal doctor." He stated. Mindy was glad he took the initiative to speak.

"I'm Mindy, but it seemed you already knew that. And cool. A doctor. That explain your fine skills and why Jonah told me to call you." She wonder if he knew the whole kidnapping situation that's taken place between her and Jonah.

Answering her thoughts Jordan spoke. "I really have no clue what's going on between the two of you, and it's not my place to know if Jonah doesn't want to tell me, yet. So you don't have to tell me anything that you don't feel comfortable with."

Mindy smile as he continue. "I do have to say though that Jonah isn't a bad person. He's the best man I've ever known besides me of course." He chuckles knowing Jonah would disagree. "I can tell that he truly cares a lot for you the way he looked and took care of you when you were hurt and sick with fever."

"You were there?" she was surprised.

"Yup. How'd you think you gotten better, by just him himself?" he joked.

"Ah that's how you knew my name." He nodded his head to agree.

"He was once a happy man." Jordan started. "But that was until a couple years ago when his mother became ill over....issues." He wasn't sure how much she knew as well and didn't want to say something she wasn't supposed to hear.

Mindy nodded understanding.

"He became more strict and doesn't seem to enjoy life as he used too and smiles less if ever but I know deep inside Jonah is still the kind hearted person from before. And you seem to be the person bringing it out of him. The way he cared for you and looks at you...." Jordan stopped midsentence. He knew his friend had fallen for the girl and she seemed to look exactly like him when she was sick but he was going to let them figure it out themselves.

Mindy's thoughts were in turmoil. No way can the man he was talking about be the same man that had kidnapped her here and made her life a living hell. Did he really cared for her as much as Jordan said? Deep inside she kind of wish it was true.

She smiled at his honesty and brought out plates from the cabinet.

"Foods ready." She announced.

"Great! I'm hungry. That Jonah never feeds me." He laughed. Mindy laughed too as she sat down. They both enjoyed the food having light conversations of random topics but her head always wandered back to Jonah.

-

Mindy finished washing the plates just as Jordan return from checking on Jonah. The sky had already darken.

"I took out his IV. Make sure he gets plenty of water once he wakes and plenty of nutrition and don't let him move around much. He'll be hardheaded as always, but I'm sure you can manage. It's late and I have an early shift tomorrow so I'll be heading out." Jordan said.

"Thank you so much. I really can't thank you enough." She replied. She walks him to the door opening it for him.

"Call me if anything changes. And Mindy, please take good care of him. He's a good guy." Jordan finished before giving her a perfect smile and walking out.

Closing the door behind her, she couldn't help but think that his words had hidden meaning between them. Stretching her limbs, she makes her way back upstairs. Opening the door to Jonah's room, she can see his chest lift up and down steadily under the blanket.

She pulled a chair and sat beside him reminiscing about the last couple of weeks.

"Yes, he was an ass when he first kidnapped me and threaten me all the time, but he never actually went through with those threats except for the one time he locked me out cold in the rain after attempting to assault me. But if everything that he said about my father and his mother were true? Then I probably deserve all this retribution. NO! Not an excuse. But Jordan confirmed that his mother did became ill. And that Jonah is a good guy. He took care of me when I was sick and even worried. He worried? Hard to believe but his actions these two days is just throwing everything off. Damn it Jonah! Why are you so hard to hate now?"

The voices in her head fought against each other whether he was a horrible person or a good person who is just hurt from the past. She didn't know. Frustrated she gaze about the room stopping at the set of car keys laying on the night stand.

"If I wanna leave now, this is the perfect time." She glared hard and long between Jonah and the keys before getting up, grabbing the keys and walking out his bedroom door.
