I sat back in my normal position, leaning toward him slightly.
"I'm confused too..." I muttered. I continued to watch the sun go down as I pulled one knee to my chest. "Can I... Talk to you. About something?" I asked.
"Of course, my ears are always here to listen!" He smiled. I laid my head on my shoulder, looking down at the waves,
"I didn't come here on my own accord. Well, I guess I kinda did..." I started.
"What do you mean?" He asked.
"You see... My family has a certain... A career that they all stick too. If you're a... Uh... Marie- yea, a Marie, then everyone knows you as the person who works for this job." I paused, hoping that I can remember that my last name is 'Marie'.
"I... I don't want the job that my family name runs in. And Every time I try to escape this job, my father puts me back in... My father was never around when I was little. Always here and there working. So when I finally got his job that he was so proud of! I was hoping... He would be proud of me... But, I sacrificed a lot, just for my father's respect. And he never once would notice, he would say it was a normal sacrifice even though it kinda... shattered my heart..." I sniffled, feeling tears rise.
"What is your job? What do you mean?" He asked. I bit my lip, looking away and I tried to ignore the fact that when I did, David's eyes lingered on my lips.
"I... I don't really want to say." I mumbled, wiping tears. David gently cupped my cheek, wiping a tear away. "With this job... I can't date you, David." I whispered. "I'm breaking so many violations in my job right now, just talking to you." I sniffled. David shook his head,

"You're making no sense, Samuel."
...My name isn't Samuel...
"I know I'm not, a lot about this doesn't make sense..." I cried, leaning my head into his hand.
"What rules are you breaking? What is your job?"
"I just said... I can't say." I answered, my eyes trailing away. "C... Can we please change the subject?" I asked. David was bit hurt by this, obviously wanting to help but no wanting to push me into saying anything.
"... Yeah..."
"Tell me something about you." I forced a smile, David glanced down,
"Is there something about me that you don't already know?" David laughed.
"I'm sure there's at least one thing." I chuckled. David thought,
"Well... I don't know what there is to say." He laughed. He then glanced toward the mountain. "Well, um. The sun is gone. We should probably get to our tent."
"...Yeah." I grabbed his hand and let him lead me back to our small camp.
When we got to our tent, David fluffed his pillow and laid it out for me along with a blanket. I turned to him.
"Where's your blanket and pillow?" I asked. He laughed nervously.
"I only brought one." He answered. I handed him the pillow,
"Here."
"No, no-"
I shoved it to where he was about to lay his head when I placed my head on his shoulder. David paused before putting his arm out, letting me use it as a pillow before he wrapped his arms around me. He pulled the blanket over both of and gently pressed his chin against the top of my head.
"... Night, Samuel."
At this point, I couldn't tell whether crying or smiling was the appropriate thing to do

"Night, David."

My eyes fluttered open, becoming level with David's collarbone.
'I can't date you'
Yea good job (Y/N).
I gently poked David's cheek repeatedly, finally getting him to open his eyes. I smiled, causing him to smile back.
"Uh, good morning." I grinned. He pulled me closer then scooted himself downward before finally burying his face into my neck,
"5 more minutes" he mumbled.
"Wow, you? Not getting up right away?" I chuckled.
"I don't wanna let go," David whispered in a groggy voice.
"We're just friends~" Max mocked, bring his voice to a higher pitch. David groaned in response, tightening his grip around me.
"We roll in the mud and hold each other because we're friends~" Nikki chimed in, not sure what it means that she's saying.
"Are you sure you two are not engaging in a romantic and/or sexual relationship?" Niel asked. David looked up from my neck, his puff of bangs falling down over his eyes,
"Yes, kids. Now, get in the car and let's go back to the camp." He ordered, pointing in the opposite direction of the car before drowsily laying his head back down. I moved to sit up but he grasped tightened, "No, don't go." He cried.
"Ha! David is worse with Samuel than Max is with Mr. Honeynuts!" Nikki squealed.
"Shut the fuck up, Nikki!" Max yelled.
"Language!" David yelled, lifting his head to narrow his eyes at Max. He then let go and sat up, "Okay, let's go back." He chuckled, ducking his head as he left the tent. I got up as well, crawling out of the tent with the blanket and pillow.
David brought down the tents before placing them in the trunk along with the blankets and pillows. I got into the passenger seat and we then drove back to the camp.
My feet kicked up the dashboard as I decided to relax a bit.
"I hope you kids are ready for this week! I have my clipboard and we'll be going through each other the camps that you sighed up for!" David grinned, "Today is... Uh..." David paused. "Hey, Sam? Can you get the clipboard out of the glove box?" He asked.
My feet slipped off the dash I leaned forward to open the compartment. I pulled out the paper and scanned over it,
"Today's, Monday. Right?" I asked.
"Correct-amongo." David smiled. My eyes lined over the names and words,
"Today is Ered's extreme sports camp," I answered.
"Oh, God." Niel wimpered. Nikki cheered, and Max grunted, shoving his hands into his hoodie pockets.
"This will be interesting." I chuckled, placing the clipboard on the floorboard.
"I can't wait!" David exclaimed.

The Granddaughter of Time
Teresa Hargrove was okay with giving up. She knew the Earth was doomed and there was nothing to be done about it. What she was not okay with was the Future, an enigmatic woman nearly fanatical in her devotion to making a difference, dragging her along — seemingly, to prove her wrong. It turns out though that the Future is very hard to understand. This story contains heavy themes, including mental illness, existential crisis and death. However, I still tried to eventually convey a message of hope. Several mythical and metaphorical beings in the shape of humans will appear in most chapters. However, they are not meant to be of a specific ethnicity or social background and are instead perceived differently by people around them. For your reading pleasure, feel free to imagine them any way you’d like, even if your imagination contradicts descriptions from the story. Enjoy!~
