[Chapter 34]
“Let me go,” Cassandra, Savage’s daughter said. Jonathan, Sara, and I were waiting for the signal on one side of the room while Mick, Rip, and Leonard were waiting on the other side.
“Call them,” Savage says in a low, threatening voice. “Call the ones that you no doubt helped gain access to my bunker.
Rip takes that as the cue and twists around the corner, pointing his gun at Savage.
“No need to trouble yourself, Miss Savage,” he says, walking slowly closer to Savage and his daughter. “We’re already here.”
Savage turns around to face Rip.
“Oh, I admire your command of irony, Gareeb. Using my own child against me,” Savage said.
“Sorry to say it didn’t take much,” Leonard replies.
“Not at all you ass,” Mick states bluntly.
“They’ve shown me the truth of what you’ve done. The innocent-” Savage cuts his daughter off.
“Do not speak as if you know anything about ruling a people!” Savage shouts. “Do you really want to align your fate with these… pretenders? They’re nothing but grains of sand in the desert of time.”
I roll my eyes. Now where have I heard that one before?
“You are a monster,” Cassandra spat in his face. For a moment, it looked like Savage was genuinely hurt from what his daughter said. But a moment later, a huge set of soldiers bust around the corner and file into the room.
Mick and Leonard got ready to shoot at them and Sara whipped out her two batons and I whipped out two wickedly long fighting knives. I flip them around in my hand and turn to Jonathan who gives me a nod. His eyes shone a bright purple and I smiled, knowing my eyes shone as well.
“She’s here,” Savage sneers, undoubtedly talking about Kendra. “I can sense her. You do realize that she can do me no harm?”
“Clearly you didn’t get the memo,” I reply.
Just at that moment, Kendra swoops in with a battle cry and heads straight for Savage. He tries to duck, but Kendra grabs him. She flies straight through the assemblance of soldiers and throws Savage roughly into another room.
That was when the soldiers charged toward us. Six came toward Jonathan and we grinned at each other. I start cutting them down, falling back into my own natural fighting routine. I slice one soldier on his chest and whip around to slice another soldier's thoat. One soldier knocks one of my fighting knives out of my hands and I toss my other knife to Jonathan who impales the soldier from behind.

“Nice,” I laugh and he gives me a hesitant smile.
“I’ve learned a few things,” he replies, tossing me back my knife. I whip around to check on Leonard and see Mick barreling into a soldier that was going to attack Sara from behind. I threw my knife into a second soldier that was going to impale Mick and smile when I hear the soldier’s slack body fall to the ground.
Just then, a soldier comes behind me and I roundhouse kick him and knock him into a wall. Two more come after me and I swore. I remembered what Jonathan said about me having telekinetic ability. I throw out my hand in front of me and summon my knife. I watch it raise up and shoot forward, straight through one of the soldiers and jumps into my hand.
I smile as I send my second knife through the other soldier, and they fall to the ground. I sheath my knives when I notice Jonathan on the ground, with a mixed expression on his face.
“Are you alright?” I ask him.
“I’m fine, it's just been a while,” he gives me a smile and I help him up.
I turn around and see Leonard and Cassandra sharing words and I feel a pang of jealousy run through me. This is how he must feel when he sees me and Jonathan talking and fighting together.
“The reinforcements are coming!” Sara yells at us while knocking down two more soldiers.
“Whatever you’re planning on doing Kendra, do it now!” Mick yells and I’m wondering what’s taking so long. Savage should be dead by now.
I throw a soldier back into a wall with a flick of my hand and rush into the room I saw Kendra and Rip go into.
I see Kendra with the golden mace raised over Savage, who was smiling and taunting her.
“Ugh!” Kendra cries out and backs away from Savage. “I can’t. I’m so sorry Rip, I can’t”
She starts crying and I was just about to ask why when I see Carter lying on the floor.
That stupid son of a bitch.
I swore and went to go comfort Kendra. I didn’t dare look at Rip, who's probably fuming at this missed opportunity to kill Savage.
“We need to get them back to the ship. Both of them,” Rip finally says and knocks Savage out.
***
We were back on the ship and I was in my room with Jonathan. Leonard went to drop off Cassandra to the rebels and I was trying my hardest NOT TO BE JEALOUS.

“Are you sure you’re alright?” I ask Jonathan, who was fiddling absently with his ring.
“There’s something I have to tell you,” Jonathan said slowly and I raise my eyebrows.
“I was being a hypocrite when we first met. When I judged you for losing it and for murdering a bunch of innocent people. The truth is, I did the same thing,” Jonathan said, hanging his head in shame.
“There are so few of us left. Most of the Elementals are dead because they were murdered. I lived with a group and when we were outed, they sacrificed themselves to save me. And I lost it, just like you did. And I killed a lot of people.
“When we were fighting today, I felt that angry part of me that hates humanity rise up. I felt it fill my bones and boil my blood and yearned to slaughter everyone in the building including your teammates. And I feel so horrible about it,” Jonathan didn’t lift his head to look at me and I was gaping with surprise.
I walk over to him and give him a hug.
“I understand that feeling and I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have asked you to come,” I sigh. “But maybe what you need is a team like mine, people to help you use that anger for a purpose other than slaughtering humanity. The pain does make us strong, but love makes us even stronger.
“Humans will never understand what it’s like to be us. They don’t understand that we didn’t want to be different. But it’s okay. Because there are some people in the world that try to understand. And those are the people you have to hold onto.” I say and let go of him.
“You really are in love with Leonard Snart aren’t you?” Jonathan asks me softly.
“Yeah, I am.” I reply. “But you will always have a place in my heart. Not as a lover, but as a friend,” I tell him and he nods.
Jonathan turns to leave when I stop him.
“Go find the people that will help you with your inner demons. Go find the girl or guy that will give love more epic than anything you’ve ever dreamed of.” I smile at him and then hold out my pinky. “Promise me.”
Jonathan lets out a laugh and joins his pinky with mine.
“I promise,” He says and then winks. “Until next time Isabelle.”
Then he blips out of my room and I roll my eyes. I walk out my door and nearly walk into someone standing right outside.
“Jesus Leonard,” I place a hand over my heart. “Were you eavesdropping?”
“No. Maybe…” I give him a dark look. “Okay fine! I was eavesdropping. I was just making sure that he would screw around with your memories again.”
“Mhmm. Or you wanted to make sure he wouldn’t kiss me again,” I say, reading in between the lines.
“Fine I’m jealous okay. I am jealous and worried that you would leave me behind and go off with him,” Leonard admits.
“Why would you think that?”
“Because you were the one who called him and was with him all day.”
“That’s because I needed answers about what I am. About Elementals. Why would that make you think I would run off with him?”
“Because why would you want to be with a weak human thief like me when you could be with an old powerful Elemental?” Leonard shouts.
“That’s not what I think of you. You are foolishly brave and kind and whether you want to show it to people or not, you care. And I love everything about you. Even if you're a thief. Even if you are human. I love you.” I reply and fall silent, realizing what I just said. I just told Leonard that I loved him.
Leonard was silent too, slowly comprehending what I said.
Then he rushed forward and grabbed my face in his hands.
“I love you too,” He replies and closes the distance between our lips. My hands snake around his neck, tugging him closer.
In that moment, I decided that I wanted him. And I would rather die than ever let anything happen to him.
I broke away from our kiss and I felt Leonard’s disappointment.
I unhook the chain around my neck and pull off Jayden’s ring. I probably wasn’t really thinking this through but I grabbed Leonard’s left hand and slipped it on his finger.
“Your brother’s ring? Are you sure?” Leonard asks softly.
I nod my head.
“I’ve never been so sure of anything in my entire life,” I reply and pull him in for another kiss. His hands wrap around my waist and I laugh against his lips when he lifts me up and takes us into my room.

Zhao Gang discovers what his work has wrought - a cultivation-free culture that has delved the deep mysteries of creation - he can't help but think how this tiny little planet devoid of natural energy could affect the course of all creation. There's only one problem. For that to happen, he has to succeed in cultivating Earth. Notes: Chinese names should be ignored in the social context - they don't mean anything. Sorry for slaughtering such a beautiful tradition. This novel starts off slower than most. If the slow-roll isn't your thing, you might want to give this a pass. If it's not for you, I understand. Also, releases may be broken up into smaller chunks. The goal is 5k words, but definitely more than 4k. If you see a short release, be aware that more is probably coming. I'll be honest and say that I'm struggling with each new scene, if only because I want to balance the scope of vision with good pacing. I hope the work I put into it is worthwhile.
