《Jotaro Kujo (Part 6) - Remember Us》Love and Loss

After spending some time together alone, Jotaro and I went to meet up with Josuke and the group.
We went to another outdoor cafe. Koichi, Rohan, and Yukako were with us as well. We were all hanging out together.
It was a nice spending time with them. This time, we didn't have alcohol in the mix... thankfully.
Jotaro sipped his coffee as he gleamed as the lively group.
I noticed something fall from Koichi's side. He didn't notice, but Jotaro did.
"Kakyoin."
Koichi glanced at him confused. "Hunh?"
Jotaro said unphased, "You dropped your handkerchief."
"Oh um..." Seemed like Koichi wanted to acknowledge Jotaro calling him the wrong name.
So I whispered to Jotaro, "His name is Koichi. You called him Kakyoin."
"Hm?" Jotaro said confused. "... oh." He gave an apologetic glance to Koichi. "Sorry, Koichi."
He said, "Oh it's okay. It isn't the first time you made that mistake." He picked up his handkerchief.
Rohan asked, "Who is this Kakyoin fellow, anyways?" He seemed very interested in Jotaro and his misnaming mishaps.
Jotaro glanced over at me. He wanted me to answer because he wasn't too sure himself.
I answered, "He was one of his old friends from when he was younger. He doesn't remember him." I reached under the table and gripped his hand.
Josuke asked, "Why don't you go see him so Jotaro could meet him again?"
I had a feeling someone was going to ask that eventually. I grimaced, "Um... well... he's deceased."
"Oh," Josuke said awkwardly. "Sorry about that."
Koichi made an apologetic noise.
Rohan seemed even more interested.
Yukako glared at Rohan as she was occupied with her food. She was eating for two, so she wasn't making much conversation.
Josuke redirected the conversation, "So how was your stay here so far?"
I answered, "It was great. This is a nice town. I wish we could stay longer."
Jotaro nodded in agreement.
Josuke said, "You should come more often. Since Joraro didn't come except for one other time, you should drag him over here again."
Koichi nodded, "Yeah!"
I said, "I'll make sure to do that."
Jotaro sighed while pulling his hat down, "Yare yare daze."
The rest of the time we spent together was nice.
Couple of days later, it was time for us to leave to go back to Florida.
Josuke was seeing us off on his own. We saw plenty of friends days before, so this was fine.

Josuke held a hand out to Jotaro.
Jotaro grabbed his hand.
Then Josuke pulled him in for a hug. He pat his back and said, "Come again soon! If you can't figure out when, come to our wedding, alright?"
Jotaro said, "Alright."
"It was nice seeing you again, Jotaro."
"It was nice seeing you again as well."
And then, we were off.
We took the long trip back to the states. We were driving home: me driving and Jotaro in the passenger seat.
Then Jotaro's cellphone rung. He picked it up. He was the type of person to have him volume on the highest setting, so most of the time I could hear his phone calls when I was near him. It was something I was used to, though it could be a nuisance sometimes.
This time I was glad it was loud.
I could hear crying on the phone, and Jolyne's mother.
Jotaro answered it by saying, "Yes?"
Jolyne's mother said, "I don't know what to do! She keeps crying and mentioning this Anasui. I don't understand. You were there during the accident, right? What should I do?"
The air got tense as the only thing we could hear was the wails of Jolyne.
I glanced to see what was going on with Jotaro.
He gulped and said, "We're back at the states. We'll be there soon." He met my eyes, so I nodded in agreement. He looked down and asked, "Can... can you get her on the phone?"
"I'll try."
The crying got a bit louder. Then there was whispering from her, "Hey, Jojo. It's Dad. He's on the phone."
Then there was a sob, "Dad? You there?"
"Yes," he said. "We are on our way, okay?"
"Mmhm," she sniffed.
He said, "We'll be there soon." He thought for a second to figure out what to say. Then he added, "Just focus on breathing." He said something I would normally tell him. His fist clenched on his lap.
I placed a hand over it as I focused on making our way to their house.
Jotaro said in a quiet tone, "Just hold on a little longer. I'll be there in several minutes."
Jolyne crying made my heart hurt so much. It was the same for Jotaro.
After ten minutes, we made it to the house. Jotaro basically jumped out the car. He ran out to the front door. I got out the car to follow.

When we reached the door, Jolyne's mother opened the door. "Come in."
I could hear Jolyne from where we were, but the cries were softer.
She guided us to down through the house and up the stairs. She whispered beside the closed door, "She's in here. She hasn't left since last night. Sorry to call you like this. I just don't know what to do." She glanced at me then Jotaro. "I know Jojo's at ease when she's with you two. She always felt better after staying with you. Thank you for coming."
"Of course," he said. "Why wouldn't I?"
There was a silence between them. It felt tense. Disbelief and doubt shown on her face as Jotaro stared back as if he just said something he shouldn't had.
She sighed, "Of course, you would forget that. You missed just about everything else important in her life."
Jotaro inhaled and pulled his hat down. "Oh. I didn't know-."
"I shouldn't have said that," she grimaced. "Just please help her."
"I will," he said. He put his hand on the doorknob and his jaw tensed. He quickly took off his hat and passed it to me. "Please standby."
I nodded.
Jotaro opened the door and slipped in. From my position, I could see Jolyne in the corner of the room with her knees to her chest. She was crying mess. Just before he closed the door behind him, she looked up and I could see a twinge of hope in her eyes.
It was just me and Jolyne's mother.
Jotaro's voice could barely be heard, and Jolyne's cries lessened.
I could see hope grow in Jolyne's mother's demeanor. Noticing that it was evening, I asked, "Has she eaten anything?"
She gasped, "No, she hasn't." Before scurrying off, she said, "I'll be back."
I was left alone not knowing what to do with myself. I worried for Jolyne and wondered what I could do. I know Jotaro told me to standby, but I felt useless in the moment.
Jolyne's mother came back with a loaded sandwich, bag of chips and a water in her arms. She seemed alert. She whispered, "Sounds like she's calmed down."
She was right.
The room was quiet.
She knocked on the door softly. "I brought something to eat for Jolyne. You must be hungry."
There was a sniff. Then a weak voice called through the door, "Okay, you can come in."
Her mother opened the door and came in.
The scene revealed before me. Jolyne was in the same spot I found her before, but this time, Jotaro was beside her. His arm was around her shoulders. He held her close. Jolyne's face was filled with dried tears. Star Platinum was behind her with his arms around her shoulders with tears falling from his eyes.
Her mother sat the food down in front of her and hugged her. She said, "Eat up, Jojo." She put her hand on her daughter's cheek. "It's gonna be alright."
Jolyne nodded and sniffed.
She turned to her ex-husband and said, "Thank you." She stood straight up and said, "Call me if you need me, okay?"
Jolyne and Jotaro nodded.
She walked out of the room. Just before walking away, she said, "Thanks for coming."
I said, "No problem as all."
Jolyne caught sight of me. She said, "You too."
Was she referring to me as well? To come in?
"Yes," she said as she reached her arm out towards me.
I came in and sat down beside her.
Jolyne reached for my hand and held it. She said, "Thank you." She squeezed my hand for support.
I asked, "Want to come over and stay a little bit with us?"
She nodded.
And that's what we did. Jolyne's mother was greatful of the solution to help Jolyne out.
Jolyne was quiet for rest of the day. She went straight to the guest room she always stayed at when she came over.
After getting cleaned up, I laid down on the bed exhausted.
Jotaro sat down on his side of the bed. "Quite the day, hunh?"
I nodded, "Yeah. I'm just glad we could do something for Jolyne. Do you know what set her off?"
He shrugged, "Beats me. She had a lot on her mind. It was like what I went through, but she has her memories." He sighed. There was a lot of weight in that breath. He was worried about her, of course. "She thinks about all the things that happened that messes her up a lot. I'm not sure what to do."
"I think having her dad nearby is great," I said. "At least, you get what she's feeling."
"Mm," he mumbled.
"Come on," I pat beside me. "Let's get some sleep. That trip home was no joke. We want to at least be well rested there for her tomorrow."
He nodded, "You're right." He laid down beside me.
