《Have We Met?: A Sherlock Fanfiction》The Cost

Lucy's head snapped around at the sound of the gunshot and blood was splattered on the thick glass. Lucy's heart contracted as she knew that her savior had just been murdered. She thanked the nameless man silently. Lance was barely visible through the blood stained glass, but his image was enough to put the pieces together. He was coming and he was going to kill us both. Lucy decided that Sherlock wasn't well enough to get himself up, so with as much energy as she could muster, she wrapped her arms aroma his waist and managed to pull his to his feet. Lucy draped his arm across her shoulder and began hobbling as fast as she could towards a large metal door on the opposite side of the room. The sound of foot steps drumming against the floor was getting louder, and louder. Lucy began moving fast almost pulling Sherlock along beside her as his feet were virtually useless at this point. They were just a few feet ahead of the door when the sound of another gun shot went off. Lucy didn't need to turn to know that Lance was in the room.
Lucy spun around with Sherlock on her shoulder and Lance held a gun towards her. Lucy had never seen eyes as intense, and full with fire as Lance's were. And then she had an idea. She pushed Sherlock to his knees(he was beginning to regain consciousness) and she fell to her knees so she was next to him. She positioned her hands on Sherlock's neck and head and glared at Lance with the same fire that was fueling her every action. With each heart beat, pure adrenaline was pumped through every vein in my body. I was ready for this.
"You need him! That's why you haven't shot him or me! You need us both," I shouted across the room at Lance. I wrapped my arm around Sherlock's neck, putting him in a choke hold.
"You know who I am and I will break his neck if you take a single step closer. He's useless to you dead," Lucy said with a sneer. Lance shifted his weight from his left foot onto his right and back again, as he realized the gravity of the situation.

"You're right. So I what? I let you get away?" He says sarcastically, shaking his head and laughing.
"Yes," Lucy said coldly.
Lance's humorous manner vanished and Lucy could see him tighten his grip on the gun.
"I see..." He growled.
"If you let us leave, you have a better chance of catching us again. Better that standing over our corpses,"

My eyes opened slowly again and the first thing I saw was a man pointing a gun threateningly at Lucy who had her arm wrapped around my neck. I didn't know where the hell I was or what was happening, but from where I was sitting(or apparently kneeling): two people were trying to murder me. I tried to quickly formulate a plan to get myself out of Lucy's choke hold, but I felt as if millions and millions of blood-thirsty caterpillars were burrowing into my brain. Each idea was quickly eaten up, leaving me with unbearable pain. I tried to listen as Lucy and the man exchanged threats. I couldn't hear what they were saying exactly as their voices sounded submerged underwater. The room was spinning and each breath I took made me want to vomit. I couldn't formulate any reasonable thought. I moved my head slightly to the right and the room suddenly went black.

Sherlock's head fell foreword and Lucy tensed and Lance smirked as a quick look of panic crossed Lucy's face.
"He's going to die. His brain is turning to mush and he can barely move. Leave now. He'll die. And I'll find you and use your mind," Lance motioned to the door with his gun.
"Get out. Or I'll shoot you," Lance said.

The outside of the facility was made to look like an American primary school. It was ironic how beautiful it was outside. It was an amazing spring afternoon. The sky was a soft, baby blue void of all clouds and the trees were dotted with intricate emerald leaves. Lucy dragged Sherlock's body across the lush grass like a rag doll. Lucy's muscles protested as she drug the man that was twice her size. A small country road ran in front of the "primary school" and a few cars zipped past. Lucy decided that crossing the road dragging a man on his back would definitely earn her a call from the police department. After surveying the countryside, Lucy quickly deduced that they were in America. She still couldn't decide where yet. She finally managed to drag Sherlock to an empty field covered in tall grass, and lots of trees. Lucy managed to sit Sherlock against the trunk of a tree and Lucy almost collapsed from exhaustion. She leaned next to Sherlock and checked his pose by putting two fingers up to his neck. She let out a sigh of relief as she found a faint pulse. Lucy ran her fingers through her hair in distress. She'd been backed into a corner. There were so many unanswered questions and Lucy still didn't understand how Lance could control someone's brain. And she didn't know what damage Lance had already done. She couldn't access the damage while he was unconscious. Lucy sank to her knees next to Sherlock and as she tried pulling her thoughts together, she slowly drifted off.

My eyes flew open and I jumped to my feet. Someone shouted and fell on their back and I fell back into the ground hitting my face on the grass.
"Sherlock!" I heard from Lucy as I tried rolling over onto my back. Lucy looked at me and her eyes glistened with concern and worry. The beautiful morning light reflected off her hair and she looked beautiful even with her shirt torn and bits of grass littered in her hair.
"Lucy...." I muttered. I carefully pushed myself up from the ground and sat crossed-legged on the soft earth. Lucy sat across from me and we sat in silence for a few minutes. I leaned foreword and pressed my lips to hers and Lucy flinched almost pulling away, but she leaned into the unexpected kiss and she wrapped her arms around my neck and I began to remember. I pulled away from the tender kiss and Lucy looked perplexed.
"You remember?" Lucy asked.
I shook my head. "No. I don't remember any of it. None of the things we did or the fights that we may or may not have had. But I don't need to. For the first time in my life, I have this feeling like-like I'm better with you. I don't have to remember, because when I look at you, I feel something that I've never felt before. Not for anyone or anything. You must be pretty damn special to make an impact on me like that. I'm not the sentimental type and I never have been. But you make me better. And I want to find out why. Maybe I'll remember one day, but now I want to find out what I love about you," I said, blushing a bit. Lucy laughed and shook her head in happy disbelief and she kissed me lightly on the cheek.
"I'm not sentimental either. That's why we are so perfect. You'll see in time. And I agree, we'll have to start over from the beginning, but we can make this work," Lucy said brushing her hair out of her eyes.
"So we are somewhere in America..." I said glancing around.
"We need to find a place to stay for the night and we can't go back to London. They know where your flat is and they'll kill us if we go back. We're going to have to get as far away from here as possible," Lucy said as she twirled a piece of grass on her finger.
I stood up and held out my hand for Lucy and she took it standing up.
"Now, I have absolutely no idea what happened in there. So I'm going to need a bit of explanation as we look for a place to stay," I said.
"I will, but what are we going to do, Sherlock?" Lucy asked.
I bit my lip and looked down at the ground then back at Lucy.
"I don't know. But it's only going to get more difficult from here. But we'll figure out what's happening," I said with an uncertain sigh.
"Ok," Lucy said morosely.
"The game, Miss Grimm, is on," I said with a small smile towards her.

Science fiction elements won't be introduced for quite some time. I currently update my work at a rate of one chapter per week. I'm also in the process of editing chapters 1 - 7, changing the format to make it more readable, and introducing more show and less tell. The reworked chapters will have (edited) after the title. All chapters after 8 have already been written in the new style. I have a Patreon page if you wish to donate. Also, there will be intense situations, some explicit violence, and although it is not an erotic work, one or two sex scenes.
