《Waxing Gibbous》I'm Okay (A)

Eventually I was wheeled back to the ER in line with on the other side of Bella, closest to the door. I had a grade 0-1 concussion, so taking today and tomorrow off should be all I need. Because the concussion was so minor and there was no internal injuries, I was fine to sleep. Good news for me because they gave me some medicine to do my stitches and to help with the pain... and it was making me a little loopy.
I could hear Tyler trying to apologize over and over again and Bella kept telling him she was fine. He then turned towards me, but I could only give him a thumbs up as I laid with my eyes closed.
I do recall Bella saying something about Edward pushing us away. I didn't see how it was possible, I mean I could barely push Bella out of the way before the van hit- but if he did push us that would explain the other injuries, I mean he was bigger and stronger than the two of us... And I do recall hearing his voice when I hit the ground.
I don't know how he got there, right now I was just thankful to be alive.
"Is she sleeping?" a musical voice asked. My eyes flew open.
"I'm awake" I called out, I don't know why, I could go to sleep.
I heard a quite chuckle and looked to see Bella and Edward looking at me "I'm fine, just go back to whatever you were doing. I'm not here, I'm not sleeping just resting my eyes"
"Hey, Edward, I'm really sorry —" Tyler began. Edward lifted a hand to stop him.
"No blood, no foul," he said, flashing his brilliant teeth. He moved to sit on the edge of Tyler's bed, facing Bella and me. I reached up to touch my head before turning to look at the door, hoping my mom or aunt would show up and let me go home.
"So, what's the verdict?" I heard Edward ask, but I wasn't sure who he was talking to. I assumed it was Bella... I mean he was right next to her and seemed to get along quite well with her in biology.
"There's nothing wrong with me at all, but they won't let me go," Bella complained.
"and Alex? How's the head?" I heard Edward ask. I turned towards him probably looking drugged up like a crazy person. I felt like one, it was weird, and I didn't like it at all. I just wanted to sleep and wake up fine.

"Stitches? Teeny Tiny concussion...Pretty sure that's it... I'm fine" I waved off.
"How come you aren't strapped to a gurney like the rest of us?"
"it's cause his dads a doctor" I replied
"you're moms a doctor and you're strapped to a gurney" Bella added.
"that's true... I'm also a little drugged up so you shouldn't take anything I say seriously"
"It's all about who you know," Edward answered. "But don't worry, I came to spring you."
Then a doctor walked around the corner. He was young, he was blonde... and he was handsomer than any movie star I'd ever seen. He was pale, though, and tired looking, with circles under his eyes.
Dr. Cullen always looked like this though, I thought it was a side effect of being a doctor and stressed, but my mom and aunt never looked like that. I wonder if it was makeup, or they got better sleep?
Behind him were two more blonde doctors. My mother and aunt; they looked alike save for facial features. My mom's face was a little longer and looked just like me when she smiled. Our features were a little softer than my aunts, who had a sharper jawline.
"So, Miss Swan," Dr. Cullen said in a remarkably appealing voice, that both Alice and Edward had... I wondered briefly if Rosalie sounded like that too... then realized it had to be better than the others. "how are you feeling?"
I blocked out what they were saying when my mom began looking over my injuries, even though she was there when the nurse gave the stitches, she was double checking them. She always did this, granted I didn't need stuff like this often but any time I was in the hospital she was hovering.
"Your X-rays look good," Dr. Cullen said. "Does your head hurt? Edward said you hit it pretty hard."
I was going to respond but then remembered he was talking to Bella.
"It's fine,"
"Tender?" he asked.
"Not really."
"Well, your father is in the waiting room — you can go home with him now. But come back if you feel dizzy or have trouble with your eyesight at all."
"Can't I go back to school?" Bella asked, I frowned at that. Yeah, I liked school but wasn't she in any pain? Was I the only one of the three of us that got hurt? Was I the one who got hurt the most?

"Maybe you should take it easy today. You did hit your head pretty hard." I heard my mom say as she glanced at Bella's x-rays.
"Does he get to go to school?"
"Someone has to spread the good news that we survived," Edward said smugly.
"Actually," Dr. Cullen corrected, "most of the school seems to be in the waiting room."
"Oh no," Bella whined.
Dr. Cullen raised his eyebrows. "Do you want to stay?"
"No, no!" She insisted, throwing her legs over the side of the bed, and hopping down quickly. Too quickly-she staggered, and my mom caught her sharing a look with Dr. Cullen.
"I'm fine," she assured again.
"Take some Tylenol for the pain," my mom suggested she steadied her.
"It doesn't hurt that bad," Bella insisted.
"It sounds like you were extremely lucky," Dr. Cullen said, smiling as he signed my chart with a flourish.
"Lucky Edward happened to be standing next to us," She amended with a hard glance at the subject.
"Oh, well, yes," Dr. Cullen agreed, suddenly occupied with the papers in front of him.
Then he looked away and walked towards my bed, where I was waiting eagerly to get home. Like my mom he examined my x-rays and stitches before signing the paperwork with a flourish.
"you're good to go, Alex." He then turned to my mom "I suggest rest for the remainder of the day and perhaps tomorrow. And of course, Tylenol for any pain."
"Thank you, Carlisle," my mom said as my aunt began helping me out of the bed.
"thanks, Dr. Cullen" I replied as I stood up.
"not a problem Alex, just take it easy"
I nodded but stopped when I felt a little pain in my neck, seems like the medicine they gave me was finally wearing off... or my bloodstream stabilized it quickly. On the way out my mom and I stopped by her office to grab everything. I would not be home alone for a while.
"Alex are you sure you're, okay?" my mom asked the moment we were alone.
Again, I tried to nod, but stopped when I felt the pain in my head and neck. "I'm okay mom, just a little sore"
"it's going to get worse, your adrenaline is fading" she replied quietly as she approached me, unshed tears in her eyes.
"mom, I'm okay. I promise" I replied hugging her tightly.
"I know, it's just you're my baby and I don't know what I would do if I lost you"
"you won't lose me." I replied. I knew she was thinking about my dad. He was 32 when he died in a freak accident. Thinking about it was emotional and I didn't want to start crying in my mom's office, and I didn't want my mom to start crying. So, I changed the subject. "Since I got hurt and had to go to the hospital can we order in for dinner?"
My mom laughed lightly, wiping her eyes "yeah, we can order in."
I smiled but then thought about what happened to my backpack – if it fell into the wrong hands, they would definitely see some drawings that I didn't want to be seen. Especially by a certain Hale.
"what?" my mom asked.
"what about my backpack?"
My mom gave me a soft smile "Charlie grabbed it; I think Eve has it now. We'll figure everything out okay, but first you need some rest"
"okay"
By the time we got to the waiting room, it was filled with dozens of people. They were staring at me. I was surprised that Bella wasn't here, yet she must have been talking to Edward. Everyone began talking at once, but my mom put her hand up in a placating manor.
"she, okay?" I heard Charlie ask.
"she's okay, out for a few days but she'll be fine." My mom responded. I gave everyone a thumbs up then followed my mom out to the car. The ride home was quite, I knew my mom and aunt were talking but I was able to block it out.
As per my request, my mom ordered pizza from the Italian shop in town. It was a little more expensive, but they cooked the food in house and made the dough the same day. They also had vegan options which was a positive for someone like me.

Something I have and am dealing with after leaving the Marine Corps. So Fat Boy Hero was born. Check out the link below to listen to an episode of The Round Table Podcast where I brainstormed the idea with the hosts and special guest Michael underwood. http://www.roundtablepodcast.com/2013/03/workshop-episode-53-guest-host-michael-r-underwood/ This book is a side project and will be updated as time permits.
