《Her Given (Editing)》Chapter 13 - My Newfound Confidence

Two periods later, and we're walking to fourth period. Xavier just left, and Ash, Coco, and I are headed to English. Cole carries my bag while Ashton holds my hand.

We take the same seats as yesterday, as we have in every class so far today - Ashton on my right and Cole behind me. The bell rings, and the teacher enters the classroom. The teacher, Mrs. Baldwin, says a "good aftertoon", and the class begins. We're learning about poems and sonnets. She gives us an assignment to do. Once the bell rings, she makes an announcement before people exit the classroom.

"Alright class, since we're learning poetry, I've decided each of you will write your own poem. And I want you guys to really try and poor your hearts out into your writing. I'll be able to tell if it's plagiarized, and if you haven't tried hard enough on them. We will be presenting our poems in front of the class on Friday. Good luck."

With that, Ashton grabs my bag, and Cole grabs my hand. We take our leave and arrive at Xavier's classroom no more than three minutes later. We exchange in a few greetings - Xavier grabing my other hand, and we make our way to the cafeteria for lunch. We pay for our food. Well, Ashton pays for our food. Now, we are currently trying to find a table.

"So, what table are we gonna sit at guys?" I question. Cole gives my hand a light squeeze and answers.

"How about over there?" He points to a table across the cafeteria, and we walk over there and sit down, getting a few glances along the way.

"So, what do you think you're going to make your poem about?" I direct my gaze toward Ash and Coco.

"I don't know. What about you?" Ash asks me.

"I have no clue either," I say. "But I am excited. I like to write; I think it's fun. Plus, I can't wait to hear yours."

"Wait, are you guys talking about the poem thing for Mrs. Baldwin's class? I have her second period." Xavier asks.

"Yup," Cole answers. We go on talking about our day, and Ashton brings up the shopping trip that's apparently scheduled for after school.

"So, when we leave school today, we're gonna bring you to the mall to get you some new clothes and girl stuff," he says, looking slightly embarrassed at the girl stuff comment.

"Alright," I sigh. I know there's no point in arguing, so I leave it be.

"But we have to be careful, I don't want to run into anyone that might recognize you. We don't need them telling your parents where you're at," Xavier adds in.

"Sir yes, sir." I give a mock-salute. They chuckle. A little while later, the bell rings, and we make our to gym. I suddenly get very excited at the thought of officially meeting my new friend. But my face falls at the thought of seeing Mr. Brown again. There's definitely something fishy about him, aside from the fact that he's a vampire.

Once we reach the gym, I spot Mr. Brown talking to a few of the girls in this class. I can see the girls openly flirting with him, and he is definitely allowing it. In fact, he's flirting too. It's pretty disgusting if you ask me. How can someone who is supposed to be a respected teacher openly flirt with his students - me included?

'What a pig.'

Luckily, I'm broken out of my repulsed thought by the shrill ringing of the bell. Mr. Brown is interrupted from his propositions aswell. Which causes him to finally address the class.

"Go get dressed," is all he said. Then he whispered something incoherent to the girls. Who, in turn, giggled.

'Alrighty then.'

The boys and I split up to change. When I get to the locker room, I change, obviously. And as I finish pulling up my gym shorts, I'm greeted by a girl. Sarah, I realize; I can tell by her dark brown hair and hazel eyes.

"Hi! I'm Sarah. Although, you've probably figured that out by now," she laughs nervously. "I just wanted to greet you properly."

"Hey! It's really nice to meet you," I say. "Thanks for offering to be my friend. I mean, obviously I have the boys, but it's certainly nice to make a new friend. A girl, no less." I giggle and hold my hand out for her to shake. She just looks at it for a moment, as if she's thinking about something. And then, seemingly coming to a conclusion, she steps closer and encircles my in her arms.

"I'm a hugger," is all she says. I'm not very used to being touched - hugged, no less - so I don't really know what to do in her embrace. It doesn't seem as natural as it does with my boys, but I just laugh it off and hug her back, trying to play off my uncomfortableness. I guess I just have to start getting used to human contact.

We seperate and walk back into the gym. I decide that I actually like Sarah; she's nice and tells funny jokes. Like now, she's in the middle of telling me a pun.

"What do you call a fake noodle?" She asks.

"What?"

"An impasta," she answers. It probably wouldn't be funny if she didn't have an emotionless expression tacked onto her face. I laugh at that. I spot the boys across the gym and make my way toward them, Sarah in tow.

"Hey guys, this is Sarah, and she's my new friend," I tell them.

Sarah looks at each of the guys and blushes; I'm not surprised, though. I mean, they are pretty attractive.

"H-hi," she says, blushing and looking at her toes.

"Hi, it's nice to meet you. My name is Cole." She looks at him and smiles uncomfortably. Xavier eyes her wearily. He looks like he is deciding whether or not she is a threat. I have no clue why, though, because Sarah is harmless. Maybe he's just looking out for me. There are some pretty nasty girls in this school saying things about me behind my back as if I can't hear them. As if coming to a conclusion, he greets her.

"Xavier," he says, shortly.

"Hello, my name is Ashton. It's nice to meet you. Thanks for befriending Ava. Not too many people are saying nice things about her."

"It's really no problem. I actually really like Avelyn. She's nicer than most of the girls in this school. They're all fake anyway," Sarah says, and it makes me beam in joy.

"Alright class, today we're going to be playing soccer. I don't care if you have any complaints. I make the rules in here. There'll be two captains that'll be picking the teams. I won't be changing the teams, so don't ask. If you don't know how to play, then ask someone on your team. I don't really feel like teaching you the rules." Mr. Brown interrupts our conversation. He makes direct eye contact with me, and I immediately feel a cold sensation throughout my body. His gaze sends shivers up my spine. He smirks and winks at me, as if he knows I'm completely repulsed by his mere presence. He's planning something; I know it. I can see it in his stormy, gray eyes.

'What an asshat.'

He calls out two guys as the captains. One guy I recognize as the guy I met on the first day of school in the parking lot - the one with blonde hair. Apparently, his name is Mark. The other guy's name is Jacob. We're all told to stand in line, so we do. Mark and Jacob are standing in front of the line, ready

Mark looks at me and smirks. "Avelyn," he says, and I grown internally. Or was it external? I couldn't care less at the point.

I tread slowly to him and stand at his side unenthusiasticly.

"Hey beautiful," he whispers in my ear. And, like with Mr. Brown, I shiver in disgust. Though, he takes it as a shiver in arousal, and he winks at me - that smirk still plastered to his smug face.

"Bastard," I whisper under my breath, and he chuckles. Though, it isn't nearly as enticing as mu boys. And lately, I realize that I've been comparing every guy to my boys.

Jacob calls on one of the other "popular guys". It goes on like this until everyone is called. Luckily, Sarah and my boys end up being called for my team. I suppose it's because Jacob didn't want them, and Mark only stuck with them to keep me appeased. Either way, they're on my team, so I'm satisfied. Plus, our team didn't have to wear those disgusting, sweaty wristbands.

'Thank God.'

Mr. Brown's obnoxious whistle blows, signalling the beginning of the game. We play for a while, the ball being passed around many times. By the time the game finished we were 4:1. I was surprised at how good my boys were; I mean, I know they're werewolves and everything. But like, damn. Ten minutes before the end of class, we're told it's time to go change, so Sarah and I walk to the locker room to do just that.

Once I've finished changing, I realize Sarah must have finished before me because she is no longer in here. I grab my stuff and stroll back to the gym. I spot Sarah speaking to Mr. Brown from a distance. She looks appalled by something he just said, and I wonder why. He's probably flirting with her too, I comprehend. He really is a revolting human being.

I decide to walk over there and save my new friend from this creature's advancements.

I clear my throat once I've reached them - making them turn their gaze toward me.

"Excuse me Mr. Brown," I lace my tone with as much venom as I can fathom when I spit his name. "I'd like to talk to my friend for a moment, if you please." He looks at me with amusement in his eyes. I have no clue why, though.

'Did I do something funny?'

As if sensing my question he says, "No, no, you didn't do anything funny. I just find it amusing that you're trying to find any possible way you can to talk to me." He smirks.

Oh hell no! "I am not. I'm just trying to protect my new friend from your advancements. It really is disgusting how you openly flirt with your students. Well, anyone with boobs and a vagina, really." He chuckles at my defence.

"Ugh, you are so infuriating." I just grab Sarah's hand and lead her away from that asshole - straight to my refuge, my boys. She just giggles and shoots me a thankful smile.

"Thanks for getting me away from him. He really is a creep. An attractive creep, but a creep nonetheless," she says.

"No problem. There's no way I'm letting my new friend be subjected to his pursuits."

Once we've reached the boys, Cole asks, "What the hell took you guys so long?"

"Don't worry about it. It's all covered," I smirk, proud that I actually stood up and did something for once - for someone. Well, beside my wolves, my boys, my Given. I think they definitely have something to do with my newfound confidence, and I'm grateful for that.

Sorry it's a bit of a short chapter, but I had a lot of things to get done today. Though it may be a filler chapter, I still wanted to get a chapter posted. I figured that something was better than nothing. Plus, I wanted to develope Sarah's character a bit more, and this chapter was the perfect opportunity for that. So... yeah. That's about it.

So, until next time...

Sincerely,

The Annoying Author Lady
