《Free Bird - Morgan Wallen》Twenty Six

The following month, Daniella tells Morgan's family to come over for a party, a family get together. Caleigh helps Dani decorate, some cute little baby things thrown in the mix.
"I'm so excited for you guys." Caleigh grins as she tapes streamers up across the walkway. "Have you guys picked names yet?"
"Not really. We've thrown ideas out but nothing really stuck." She says as she tosses a couple of casseroles in the oven. "Morgan's real excited."
"I bet." She chuckles. "Michael and Morgan are back."
"Shit." Daniella wipes her hands with a dish towel before heading to the door. "Hey, Hardy wait here." She grabs Morgan's hand and pulls him inside. "I still have to change. Does he know yet?"
"Hardy?" She nods. "No."
Dani turns and opens the door. "Hey Hardy, I'm pregnant." She closes the door then runs upstairs.
"What!?" He shouts, swinging the door open. "Since when!?"
"Few months!" She shouts back from the bedroom. "That's why we're having a party, darlin'!"
"What the hell? Why are we the last to know?"
"Oh I've know." Caleigh gives Hardy a shit eating grin. "Whoops."
"What? Morgan-"
"I, uh, be right there, Dani!" He shuffles to the bedroom. "Yikes." He giggles as he sits on the bed. "So whatcha wearin'?"
"This." She says as she opens the bathroom door. She's in a long tight dress that hugs her figure with a long sweater. "What d'ya think?"
"Beautiful." He stands and runs his hand along the baby bump. "You're a sexy momma." He winks, she rolls her eyes.
"Hey, people are startin' to show up." Hardy knocks on the door.
"We'll be right out." Morgan answers, taking Dani's hand to lead her out to the living room.
"Hey y'all!" She greets, her sweater pulled around her. "Thanks for comin'."
"Sure." Lesli smiles, setting a dish down on the kitchen counter. "What's this for anyway?"
"It's just nice to have everyone together." She simply says. "Family, y'know?" Dani fiddles with a few plates before turning to the fridge to grab Hardy a beer and Morgan a glass of iced tea. "Here y'all go." She kisses Morgan's cheek.
"You're pregnant." Lesli says, Morgan and Dani freeze. "Well?"
"Yeah."
"You are? Really?"
"I am." Her hand goes her the bump. "Got a baby in there." She chuckles.
"Hey y'all, we have an announcement." Morgan stands, his sweaty hand tight around his wife's. "Dani's pregnant." He tells everyone, their family cheers and claps for them.
"Congrats y'all!" His father says, giving them a hug. "When are you due?"
"Sometime in February." She responds, smiling as Morgan puts his hand against her belly.
"Do you know the sex yet?"
"Uh." The couple look at each other. "Yes, but y'all are gonna have to wait 'til February." Morgan and Dani chuckle with each other, her hand going to his chest.

Daniella lays next to Morgan in their bed, she's exhausted. "Hey." She whispers, looking over at him. "Do you have any names you've been thinking about?"
"Yeah, actually, Johnathan Thomas? Your dad and my dad?" He suggests as he puts his head on her shoulder.
"John Tom Wallen." She bites her lip to hold back a laugh. "I dunno. I mean I like the idea
a lot." She takes a breath. "Let's think about it, y'know? Like we won't know until he's born. I was Kathleen before I was born then my folks saw me and thought Daniella was better."
"Kathleen?" She nods. "What would we've called you for short?"
"Kate. It was after my mamaw on my moms side. What about Patrick Cole?"
"Veto, I don't like Patrick."
"Fine. What do you have?"
"Desmond Hayes."
"Veto. Desmond is a very hefty name and it don't flow." She says, fiddling with Morgan's hair. "Johnathan Thomas is stickin'."
"Call 'em Johnny? Jack? John?"
"All cute." She smiles as she puts her hand on her bump. "John Tom is a front runner."
He giggles, leaning over to give her a kiss on the cheek. "Goodnight." He whispers as he turns over and turns the lamp off.

A few months later, Dani and Morgan are putting together the nursery with the help from their neighbors. The guys are bringing in the furniture as the girls are folding some clothes and decorating the room. "Morgan wanted to make the room orange for the Vols." Dani says as she mounts a shelf on the white wall. "But, I did tell him he can accent with orange." Caleigh laughs, setting a small deer statuette on the dresser.
"Babe!" Morgan shouts from the living room.
"What?"
"Did you order this?" He says back, looking at the picture on the box. "It don't look familiar."
"Oh yeah, I did." She puts her hand on her bump. "It's just a bench seat for the room. What's left?"
"Just the crib and a chair." Hardy groans as he lifts the box with Morgan, leaning it against the wall. "And your lovin' husband picked up some decorations."
"Shit man, that was a surprise!" Morgan huffs, cracking his back. "C'mon now." He heads back outside to the truck.
"What did he get?" Dani asks Hardy who shrugs as he walks away. "Michael?"
"You'll see, baby!" The guys return with the crib then the chair. "We can put this together for y'all if the girls want to make lunch?"
"Sure, baby." Dani smiles, grabbing her sweater off the corner of the door. "Caleigh, wanna help?"
"Sure!" She bounces behind her, sitting at the counter. "You're glowing."
"Nah, I'm just sweating." She chuckles as she wipes her forehead. "Oh shit, what're they doing?" She sighs at the sound of arguing. "Damn boys."

"Are you actually stupid!?" Morgan shouts. "That don't go there!" Dani bites her lip as she sees two grown men surrounded by a mess of parts, arguing over the instructions in Michael's hand. "See?" Morgan starts to jam two pieces together.
"Stop, man! You're gonna break it!" He snatches it from him. "This damn thing says this and that go together!"
"You boys are somethin else." She titters, smiling.
"We got this handled, baby." Morgan huffs, brushing his hair back before popping his ball cap back on.
She shakes her head as she heads back to the kitchen, smiling again when she sees Caleigh cooking something. "Smells great." She grunts as she lowers herself on the bar stool. Her best friend hums as she stirs the meat in the skillet. "Me and my baby boy are starvin'." Her hand goes to her belly.
"Glad to hear that because lunch is ready." She says as she moves the skillet off the burner, grabbing a few plates. "Boys!"
There's more shouting as they enter the kitchen. "Smells good, baby." Morgan says, grabbing a plate.
"Caleigh made lunch."
"I learned from the best." She winks at Dani.
Morgan slides a full plate in front of his pregnant wife. "Here you go, darlin'." Tears spring to her eyes. "Oh shit, what? What's wrong?" He asks, grabbing her hand.
"You're so nice." She almost whimpers. "I love you so much." Hardy chuckles as he fixes himself a plate. Morgan smiles, pressing a kiss to his wife's head. "Sorry." She exhales, looking down at her lunch. Hardy sits next to her, his hand on her back. "I'm fine. It's just hormones." Her eyes narrow at her husband. "So it's your fault." He puts his hands up in defense. "You did this, Wallen."
"C'mon now, baby." He sighs, squeezing her shoulders.
"Sorry." She shakes her head, looking up at Morgan. "I'm sorry." He kisses her forehead. She sits back, her hand on her growing baby, sighing heavily. The two couples sit, chatting quietly as they eat.

Daniella's mood swings fluctuate throughout the following weeks. One day, she yelled at Morgan for putting his boots next to the door instead of in the shoe tray next to it. Another day, she cried over putting her slippers on the wrong feet. Morgan is trying so hard to be patient but it's spreading pretty thin. She middle named him for not putting his keys in the bowl next to the door, he had to sit out on the porch to cool down.
She feels so bad for lashing out at him and she tries so hard to hold her tongue but somethings slip out. Morgan understands that pregnancy is hard on her body and mind but he's so tired of being in trouble all the time.
Currently, Daniella is asleep with her head on Morgan's lap, her feet kicked up on the arm on the couch, Morgan's hand is resting on the noticeable bump covered by one of his sweatshirts, her clothes don't fit her anymore so she's stealing her husbands clothes. She groans as she wakes up, glaring up at Morgan before struggling to sit up. He pushes her to help, earning a 'dont touch me' in response.
"C'mon now, darlin'." He huffs. "I'm just helping you." He thinks this frustration is caused partially by the lack of smoke in her lungs mixed with hormones.
"I know I quit smoking a while ago but I'm fucking stressed and I need one." She runs her hand through her dirty hair, she hasn't had enough energy to shower properly.
"You just need to relax, babe." He says quietly, rubbing her back. "C'mon, let's get you in a bath."
"That sounds wonderful." She whimpers, looking up at him with tear filled eyes. "Thank you." He knows he can't get mad at her when she's misty eyed. Morgan helps her into the bedroom where she sits until he guides her into the deep tub in the corner of the bathroom. She sighs as she sinks down in, the water separating around the growing fetus, her eyes closing as her husband starts to clean her hair, some old rock music playing softly in the background.

"Hey Morgan?" She whispers to him around midnight, poking him to wake him up.
"Wh-what?" He mumbles, his head lifting off his pillow. "You okay?" His voice is filled with worry and sleep.
"I'm sorry."
"For what?"
"All the emotions and yelling and mood swings-"
"Hey, I get it." He says softly. "I totally understand and thanks for sayin sorry." He leans up and kisses her flushed cheek. "I love you."
"You do?" He nods. "Enough to get me some chips?" She bites her lip.
Morgan groans as he sits up, stepping into a pair of slippers before trudging to the kitchen to grab Dani some Pringle's and a drink. He turns the lamp on her nightstand on, laying next to her, flipping the tv on. "What do you wanna watch?"
"Is That 70s Show on?" She mumbles around the food in her mouth. Morgan flips to her show, pulling her against his side. "You're the best." Her blue eyes flutter up to his and she smiles.
Morgan suddenly stands and grabs his guitar and a notepad, sitting down at the end of the bed as he messed around with chords and lyrics. "Can you grab my phone?" He says back to her, reaching his arm back. She slides it into his hand as he calls Hardy. "I just got the coolest riff- I know it's late, man... just- just- hey!" He huffs. "C'mon now-" he trails off when he feels a pair of hands rubbing his back. "Fine yeah, I'll call you later."
"What's your new idea?" She asks quietly.
"I'll tell you when it's ready." He responds, setting his guitar in the stand in the corner. "You're tired, get some sleep."

A Fractal Divide
Lesivar is a city in ascendancy. With recent innovations in magical crafting, the common people are experiencing a boom in comfort and wealth. The nobility, long used to being the stewards of knowledge and power, struggle to adapt to the new world in which they find themselves. A precarious balance has been maintained throughout, but forces stir beneath the surface threatening to send the city spiraling into chaos. This is my first attempt at writing anything longer than a short story, and I welcome any feedback or corrections. I'm posting this as I write, with each chapter going live upon completion. My current pace is about a chapter a day, which I expect to take my through the end of November. From there, I'm shooting for a chapter every two-three days until the book is completed, along with an editing pass of what is already up. I'm planning on three POV characters with unique insight into the story as it unfolds. Each chapter will contain only one POV. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
