《Free Bird - Morgan Wallen》Fourteen

It's about two in the morning and Morgan and Michael are absolutely trashed. They alternate flirting with Dani who just goes along with it. "Let's get y'all home before you break someone's heart." She jokes, taking one of their hands in her own to walk them out to her Bronco. "C'mon baby." She says as she helps Hardy into the backseat. "Morgan-" she turns around but he's not there. "Morgan!" He's starting to climb into the drivers side but she stops him quickly. "What're you doin' baby?"
"Driving home." He slurs out, patting his pockets for the keys that are in Dani's hand. "Left 'em inside." He kicks a foot out before missing the step and he falls to the ground, laughing hard when he lands on his back. "Ah shit!"
Dani's laughing too as she gets her fiancé back on his feet. "C'mon now, you can drive tomorrow." He nods as he slides himself into the passenger seat.
Dani buckles him up. "Hardy, you're dumb." He mumbles, earning a smack on the back of his head. "You slept with my fiancé, but I'm better than you are! Ha!"
"Dude, you told him?" Hardy whines, rolling his eyes. "C'mon man! I was nervous!" Dani rolls her eyes back as she pats Morgan's chest before closing the door to walk to the drivers side.
"Okay-"
"Turn on the radio, baby!" Hardy shouts over her. "Rock station!" She does as told and Sweet Child O' Mine is on. "I fuckin' love this fuckin' song!"
Morgan and Michael start singing loudly and very off key as she starts to drive them to Knoxville.
+++
Dani turns her car off, takes the keys out of the ignition then helps Hardy out of the car, locking Morgan inside so he doesn't run off or do something incredibly stupid like attempt a backflip off the roof. "Michael, let's get you in bed."
Hardy wiggles his eyebrows. "Miss me already?" She shakes her head as she gets him up to his apartment.
She makes sure to get Pedialyte out for him when he gets up along with Advil. "Are you gonna be okay, baby?" Hardy steps closer to her, pinning her against the counter as he kisses her sloppily. "I gotta get Morgan home."
"He'll be fine." He mumbles against her neck. "One more time?"
"No, baby." She pushes him down the hall and into his bed. "Get some sleep." She says as she kisses his forehead then leaves.
Morgan is passed out in the passenger seat when she returns to the car. She smiles as she hops in and starts it up, driving back to their home.
They pull up to the house and she starts to unbuckle her seatbelt. "Daniella." Morgan whispers. "Hey."
"What darlin'?" She whispers back, leaning her elbow on the arm rest, her chin in her hand.
"Daniella Louise?" He whispers again.
"Morgan Cole?" She responds.
"I love you so much and I think we can handle being parents." He nods to himself. "I'm gonna get you pregnant one day."
"Okay, baby." She chuckles as she helps him out of the car, making sure he steps onto the ground as he gets out.

"I wanna get you the best gift ever for your birthday."
"Okay, baby." She responds, unlocking the door. He stumbles in and immediately goes to the kitchen to dig around in her fridge. "What're you doin'?" She asks playfully as she puts a hand on her hip.
"I'm gettin' you somethin to drink."
"No, just go on up to bed." She sighs, rubbing her temple. He grips the banister as he makes his way up the steps, flopping onto their bed.
Dani sighs again as she follows him, taking his boots and big belt buckle off before covering him up. "Hey." He says half asleep with his face smushed against the pillow, his hair in his eyes.
"What Morgan?"
"Thanks for takin' care of my and my buddy." She nods and changes into a pair of sweats and a big Eagles t-shirt. "You- you are a blessin'."
"Get some sleep, Morgan." He huffs, dozing off.
She lays in bed next to him and stares up at the ceiling, rubbing Morgan's back as he snoring quietly.
How did she end up so lucky?

Later in the day, Morgan finally gets out of bed to take a shower while Dani is asleep on the plaid couch downstairs. He groans as he takes each step down, his eyes squeezed shut. "Mornin' darlin'." He mumbles, heading to the counter to brew some coffee.
"Hey." She says through a yawn, sitting up. "How're you feelin'?"
"Great." He mumbles, squinting at her.
"I should be makin' you some food, right?" She sighs, turning to the fridge for some eggs.
"You alright, darlin'?" He asks, wrapping an arm around her waist.
"Yeah, yeah I am." She hands him a mug of hot coffee. "Take a seat." Daniella turns the radio on to a quiet volume as she scrambles some eggs and cooks some bacon, she usually sings along as while she cooks.
"What's up?"
"I said I'm fine-"
"C'mon now, you can tell me anythin'."
"I'm scared to try for another baby." She admits, not looking up from the skillet. "I lost the last one and I just don't want to go through that again."
"What brings this 'round?"
"Last night, you said you wanted to try for another one."
"I did?" She nods. "I mean it'd be nice to have a little one runnin' 'round here with us, but it's definitely not a priority."
"I'm just scared."
"Look at me." He whispers, turning her around. "I love you." She has tears forming in her blue eyes and he frowns as he cups her cheeks. "God has big plans for us." She nods as she runs her fingers of his bare chest down the chain of his necklace.
"I've been thinkin' about patching things up with my mom."
"Why?" Morgan asks.
"I dunno." She shrugs. "I'm startin' a life with you and I've been thinkin' about cleanin' that mess up."
"I'll be there with you, always." He promises, kissing her cheek. She smiles slightly as she puts eggs and bacon on his plate, refilling his cup before she joins him. "Looks delicious."
"Thanks." She smiles, sighing loudly as her phone starts ringing, excusing herself from the table, going outside. "Hello?"

"Daniella, hey." It's Michael. "Did I make any moves on you last night?"
"A few times actually."
"Shit, I'm sorry."
"You kissed me and tried to go further when I dropped you off."
"I'm so sorry. I knew that wasn't a dream."
"It's alright, baby." She sighs as she sits on the steps. "How're you feelin'?"
"I'm actually good. Got my Pedialyte and Advil." She chuckles quietly. "How're you? How's Morgan?"
"He's eatin' some of my cookin' right now so he's pretty set."
"How're you? You seem off, baby."
"I'm fine."
"No you're not-"
"I'm sorry, I gotta go." She hangs up quickly before sitting there, alone in the quiet, a little bit longer. Morgan joins her with her slippers, a cup of coffee and a thick blanket. He sets the shoes in front of her, hands her the mug, and wraps the blanket around them. "I don't know what's goin' on with me." She sighs quietly. "Hey, I really liked that song you guys sang last night."
"I'm glad, baby."
"Do you have any more song ideas?"
"Yeah actually. Hardy has my notes."
She calls him again. "Hardy, what're you doing this week?"
"I'm sittin' my ass down in front of the TV, maybe fishin'."
"Do that here. Bring your guitar and your song writin' notebooks. We're gonna write some kick-ass tunes."
"You got it, ma'am." He nods. "I'll be there in a few hours."
"See ya soon." The hang up and she looks at Morgan. "Song writin' starts tonight."
+++
Hardy sets his stuff up in the living room while Morgan moves his guitar next to the couch and Daniella is making them dinner. "Hope y'all boys are hungry."
"Always, darlin, always!" Hardy responds.
Dani sighs, laying a pie crust on top of the chicken pot pie then slides it into the oven. "Alrighty, it'll be done in half an hour."
"Thank you, baby." Morgan smiles, giving her leg a squeeze when she sits next to him.
They sit together, messing around with different chords and melodies. "I had written a song the last time I was here and I gave it to you." Hardy says to Dani.
"Oh yeah." She stands and heads up to their bedroom, digging around in a Cutaway Rye box in the bottom all the way in the back of her closet. She pulls out the envelope labeled Daniella then puts the box away, returning to the boys. "Here."
"It's still sealed." Hardy mutters. "You didn't read it?" She shrugs as she goes to the kitchen to check on dinner. "This is like a ballad type thing."
The paper has Stand Alone scribbled on the top. "This seems like a pretty sad song, man." Morgan says. "You wrote this?" Hardy shrugs into a nod. "Wow." They start messing around with some chords as Hardy hums along.
"That sounds beautiful." She says as she leans against the walkway frame. "Dinner is almost done, the table it set. What do y'all wanna drink?"
"Whatever you got works for me." Hardy shrugs. She nods, grabs two cans of Arnold Palmer and sets them on the table at their spots then she fills her glass with lemonade. "C'mon and eat boys." She calls after setting the pot pie in the center of the table. She serves them then herself, finally sitting down next to Morgan. They chatter about his tour and the parties he went to.
"It was absolutely crazy- I've never went to a party with that many people." Morgan mumbles around his food.
"I haven't went to a party since that Cowboy one at Chi Phi." Hardy smiles. "With this little miss." He winks at Dani who rolls her eyes.
"Do you miss partyin'?" Morgan asks Dani.
"I dunno, I haven't gone to once since Chi Phi either." She shrugs, wiping her mouth with a napkin. "Yeah I guess."
"Oh!" Hardy gasps, standing to go to the living room. "That's perfect." He mumbles, picking up his guitar. "Dude!" Morgan joins him. "Listen to this riff." He plays it loud, getting Daniella's attention.
"She's my yin yang girl, she's day she's night." Morgan suggests, pointing to the chords he had written. "Just a shot in the dark, she's a beam of light."
"Yes!" Hardy nods, writing it down.
"She's an angel who can raise a little hell." Dani mumbles, picking at her cuticles while she leans against the doorway. "A drive fast, high class southern bell."
"She's crazy, there ain't no doubt about it."
"Hell yeah." Morgan nods. "Excuse me, y'all." He heads upstairs.
Dani sits on the couch next to Hardy. "He's great." She whispers. "I love him."
"Good, I mean y'are marryin' him, not me." He sighs. "You two look nice together anyways." She rolls her eyes. "Did hookin' up really not mean anythin' to you?"
"We hooked up when I was with Morgan, Michael." She says quietly. "It was good, is that what you wanna hear? God, how much longer are you gonna keep bringin' it up?"
"I have feelings for you, Daniella. Feelings I can't do anythin' about 'cause you're with my best buddy, you're marryin' him." She's speechless, she had no idea how deep it went.
Morgan returns shortly after, sitting next to Dani, putting his guitar back on his lap. "Yin Yang Girl. That's it, that's the title."
"I love it." Hardy nods, writing it down.
Dani's phone starts ringing, "hello?"
"Is this Daniella Hunt?" A woman asks.
"Yes. Can I help you?"
"You're listed as Johnathan Hunt's emergency contact. Your father is in the hospital."
"What!? Why!?" Morgan and Hardy look up from their notes. "What- where?"
"He's at St. William's. Something happened at the prison and he got caught in the middle of it."
"Shit. I'm on my way now." She hangs up and rushes upstairs to get her shoes before returning to the living room for her purse and keys. "My dad's in the hospital."
"Shit." Morgan stands and puts his boots and ball cap on. "I'll go with you."
"Yeah, me too." Hardy says, putting his guitar in the stand.
They pile into her Bronco and gun it down to St. Willams.

The Discarded
The Umbrae Lunae existed before man, beautiful abominations birthed in the nightmares of mad gods. They wait for humanity to misstep, for the angels to look away. For the moment when they can cloak the world in moon shadows once again. But even horrors have children. Even nightmares must feed. One child, unlike the others, finds his way to a school for young abominations. Will he be a sheep cast before the wolves, or a terror that wears the skin of wool to entice the wolf close? The flesh of his body was his only coin, strips cut to pay debts that never ended. Everyone has scars, stories in a life led, lessons learned, and licks taken. Luminous bodies touched by darkness. There are a cursed few that are the opposite, black shadows consumed by scars, twisted minds devoured by diseased hungers, bodies tortured misshapen works of gouged flesh, silver lines of blade thin cuts, ragged tears of teeth and glass. For them, the scars are marks of homecoming, the mangled wasteland the only place they feel at peace. Hell is a place. It's made of concrete, steel and glass. It's the sounds of starving kids crying themselves to sleep, huddling into small balls as creepers come and take their due of innocence and tender meat. It's eating rotten food and carrying ticks in your hair. It’s having no one and nothing while surrounded by everything. It's the life of a street kid. What abomination was birthed in the corrupt womb of man’s cast-off shit? Pretty people don't know the power of ugly. They can't see the strength in a broken soul or the power in a calloused heart. Those secrets are for the discarded alone. Only the broken understand the grace of darkness. The blessed folds that hide scars and tears, the protection of its concealing umbra.
