《Bringing the Nation's Husband Home II》XLIV | Used To This

Mrs. Williams would definitely be aware that Isabelle would get an abortion in the hospital as she was the one who had placed the sleeping pills in that swallow's nest.
When her son woke up, she no longer had any worries, but she was afraid that Isabelle would fall for him after spending such a long time together, so she had tried to find a loophole to scheme upon.
At that time, Alexander just didn't want her to be upset, so he forgot that his dishonestly could be used against him.
Just a moment of miscalculation and a tragedy could have happened.
If she didn't fall into the stream, he would have never known that she hated him so much.
Five years ago, on Isabelle's birthday, that woman had thrown away the flowers and cake he had gotten Isabelle.
Five years later, still on Isabelle's birthday, that woman had sentenced him to death in Isabelle's world.
He had underestimated her hatred towards him, and her ruthlessness.
Between an unknown nurse and Alexander who had explained the situation the night before, Isabelle chose to believe him without hesitation. She never noticed anything strange about him as she continued to voice her doubt. "Why would the nurse lie? What was her motive?"
Alexander was deep in his thoughts and didn't realize that Isabelle had spoken.
After a long while, she still didn't get a response, so she couldn't resist anymore. "Alexander?"
He hurriedly put away his thoughts. Turning towards Isabelle, he replied in a faint voice, "I'm not sure either... I handed the matter to my assistant, and he had mentioned that there was a nurse that threatened him for more money but he had ignored her, that may be the reason why she came to you..."
So that's what happened... Isabelle looked at Alexander and apologized once more. "Regardless of how it was, Alexander, I want to say I'm sorry."
"It's fine..." Alexander paused, his gaze turning murderous.
Some things had been done deliberately so she would misunderstand, so how could she have realized?
Mrs. Williams was there ever since she was a child, she treated her like a daughter, so Isabelle would probably never believe that she was the one who had killed her child.
If he were to tell her the truth now, would she think he was accusing Mrs. Williams?
He was able to tolerate Mrs. Williams's repeated insults and hurt, but he wasn't capable of forgiving her for what she had did to his child, there will come a day when he'll get his revenge.
Alexander shut his eyes, forcing the anger down before replying faintly, "Actually, it's also my fault." After pausing for a bit, he added, "It's late, sleep."
After talking for such a long time, Isabelle was indeed starting to get sleepy. In the end, she could no longer fight her drooping eyelids and fell asleep. In a daze, she felt someone come close, placing a warm, moist kiss on her forehead.
Isabelle's brows moved, she seemed to have smelled the familiar aroma of Alexander. Just then, she seemed to have heard someone whisper, "Izzy, I like you, I have liked you for a very very long time."
Isabelle's lips curled upwards into a smile, her head rubbing the pillow before falling into deep sleep.
Alexander stared at Isabelle's face for a long while before reaching out to rub her hair lightly. Turning back to his side of the bed, he laid down.
~*~
The next morning, Isabelle was awaken by thunder. She sat upright and turned to the other side of the bed, Alexander was no longer around. The skies started to pour outside, and she came out and saw that brother Chen's wife was the only one in the living room. She sat on a wooden stool, sewing a man's shirt.

"Miss Davis, you're awake?" She raised her head to look at Isabelle. Putting the clothes down, she walked to the side and placed a set of breakfast onto the table in front of her.
Isabelle thanked her before sitting down. She tilted her head and asked, "Where is everyone?"
"They went to the mountain to cut shoots."
Isabelle didn't reply, she lowered her head to eat silently. When she was halfway through, lighting struck, piercing the air before a loud clap of thunder resounded. Swiftly, the rain increased in intensity.
Isabelle turned to face the door instinctively. As she looked out, the rain pelted down from the skies aggressively, blurring her vision. As puddles started to form, flooding the area, she started to feel increasingly worried, losing her appetite.
She continued to stare out the door, gaining her attention. She smiled slightly, comforting Isabelle, " Miss Davis, don't worry, the weather here is always like that, it'll stop in a while."
Isabelle nodded her head lightly, her heart uneasy. The skies were pouring. It was the first time she had experienced such bad weather.
Another lighting pierced through the skies, and Isabelle paled, starting to get more anxious, her entire body trembling.
She couldn't keep in her laughter. "Miss Davis, don't worry, your man will definitely be fine."
Your man... Isabelle was just about to explain when suddenly two figures came into sight.
She paused, swallowing her words. She stood up hurriedly and saw brother Chen running in covered in mud, behind him was Alexander, who was entirely covered in mud as well. But even mud, it still couldn't conceal the elegance that he emitted.
The moment she saw him back in one piece, Isabelle finally calmed her heavy heart. Before Isabelle could ask how he was, she laughed lightly.
"Aiya, you're finally back Mr. Smith! You have no idea how worried your wife was when she realized you were out in such a bad weather. She was so anxious she almost cried!"
She pointed with her head towards the table as she spoke. "Look, she didn't even eat much."
Alexander glanced towards the breakfast on the table before glancing back at Isabelle.
She blushed upon hearing her's words, and when she sensed Alexander looking at her, she blushed an even deeper shade of red, lowering her head to shield her face. Just then, she realized that she hadn't clarified their relationship.
Before the men had returned, she had already boiled some water for them to have a bath. After they took a hot bath, the rain had already stopped and the skies were clear once again, brightening the village.
Isabelle walked back to the room with a freshly brewed bowl of ginger soup. When she entered, she saw that Alexander's hair was drenched and was still dripping water. She frowned slightly, placing the ginger soup on the table before leaving the room to get a dry towel.
Alexander sat on the edge of the bed, holding the bowl of ginger soup in his hands and sipping from it carefully, the droplets from his hair dripping into the bowl.
Isabelle walked towards him, placed a towel on his head, and started to dry it tenderly.
Alexander stiffened slightly, spilling hot soup onto the back of his hand, scalding it bright red. Ignoring the pain, he lowered his lashes, continuing to sip the hot soup gingerly.
The room was silent. After a moment, Isabelle said softly, "Erm, she misunderstood."
Alexander took a moment to process her words before replying with a non-committal "Oh." Reaching out with his hand, he placed the bowl onto the table beside.

Isabelle removed the towel and caressed his hair; it was only slightly damp now. She turned, and when she was about to leave, she tripped on Alexander's leg, falling right into his arms. Her face blushed a deep shade of red as she struggled to climb out of his embrace. But Alexander, he instead grabbed onto her wrists.
Isabelle stiffened. She lifted her head and her gaze collided straight with Alexander's eyes.
In that instance, her heart raced and an unknown anxiety started to enclose her.
After a seemingly long while, Alexander moved her hands to the back of her head, moving her head slightly upwards. Soon, she felt his head lowering closer and closer to her face.
Isabelle felt as though her heart had stopped. Her long lashes trembled slightly before her eyes shut entirely. She could feel his breath spilling onto her face, it was heated and moist.
She couldn't help gulping down her saliva. Even though her eyes were shut and she couldn't see anything, she knew that his lips were almost touching hers... just then, their lips met.
Heat ran through her body, spreading everywhere, and her lashes started to tremble rapidly.
Alexander's lips covered her lips, but he remained motionless for a long while before slowly kissing her. Just when his tongue was going to venture in, someone's loud voice pierced through the air. "Mr. Smith, Mrs. Smith, someone is here to get you!"
Alexander paused for a moment, while Isabelle completely snapped back to reality and instinctively pulled away from his arms. She lowered her blushing face, and straightened her clothes. She made a sound to the other side of the door, glanced at Alexander, and walked out first.
"There are two cars stopped at the door. They say that they're here to pick you both up..." said brother Chen's wife, as she pointed at the courtyard. Isabelle stared blankly for a moment, then when she stepped out and saw who was standing outside, she instantly smiled.
"Sis, James!"
Alexander, who was originally following behind Isabelle, stopped in his tracks for a moment when he heard the two names she called out. After a while, he stepped out of the house and saw the three of them chatting and laughing away.
James probably knew that Isabelle had hurt her leg, so he supported her over to the stool under the tree. Then, he crouched down in front of her and rolled up her trousers to check on the wound.
They probably assumed someone would be injured, and so they specially brought a medical kit with them. When Sophia ran over to the car to get it, James remained crouched and rubbed the herbal medicine to disinfect the wound. He added on a layer of ointment before bandaging it up.
James lifted his head. Who knows what he asked Isabelle, but she smiled at him and shook her head.
The bright rays of sun happened to shine on her face and her smile, which pierced Alexander's eyes. He instinctively turned his head in pain, and stood by the door a little fazed, until his assistant walked over and called out to him, "Mr. Smith".
Alexander hurriedly snapped back to reality and turned his head towards brother Chen and his wife in the house. He said, "Thank you", and soon after, glanced at his assistant, who immediately knew to take out an envelope.
Alexander took the envelope and handed it to brother Chen and his wife. "Thank you so much for taking care of us. Here's a little something as a token of goodwill."
They took the envelope, and saw a pile of red notes. He immediately pushed it back, wanting to return it to Alexander, but in the end, the assistant came forward, and reasoned with them. Finally, he convinced them to accept the envelope.
"Mr. Smith, should we be on our way now?" asked the assistant. After he finished thanking the Chen family, he turned his head and walked over to Alexander, who stood dazed to one side, staring at an empty space outside the house.
Alexander diverted his eyes and gave a light nod.
The assistant immediately rushed over to the three who were chatting away to one side, and reminded James with a respectful tone, "Mr. Williams, we can head out now."
"Wait one moment, let me say goodbye to brother Chen and his wife." Isabelle got up from the stool and rushed over to the house.
James stood still on the spot, before calling out "Bro" to Alexander, who stood inside the house.
Alexander greeted him with a silent nod, then his eyes fell on Isabelle, who came out of the house.
Probably because of the pain in her leg, for two days, she was quite slow and limped when she walked.
It had just rained, and so there were quite a few puddles on the ground. She walked a little cautiously, perhaps to avoid getting her shoes wet.
Now, she walked for about five meters before suddenly stopping.
Sophia cried out in curiosity, "Izzy?"
Isabelle didn't turn her head but raised her hand to rub her forehead. Then, without any warning, her body went limp, and she dropped to the ground.
"Izzy!"
"Miss Davis!"
Everyone screamed in shock at practically the same time.
Alexander was the first to rush over to Isabelle, followed closely behind by James. However, James was far closer to where Isabelle had fallen than Alexander was, so it didn't matter how fast he ran. James was the first to reach Isabelle, and he crouched down, propping her up.
James lightly slapped her face and gently called her name twice. Yet Isabelle was resting weakly on his shoulders without the slightest reaction.
Alexander, who had originally lunged forward, stopped sharply in his tracks. He looked over at the pale-faced Isabelle with her eyes shut, nestled in James's arms. His eyes were rather astounded.
Just now, because he ran over so abruptly, his breath was a little unsteady, and his outstretched hands lingered still, mid-air.
Chen and his wife, Sophia and the assistant had already come over.
"What happened to Miss Davis? How did she suddenly faint?" said Chen's wife, as she looked over at her husband.
"Izzy, Izzy!" Sophia shook Isabelle's arm, then impatiently cried out to James, "James, what are you doing, blanking out? Hurry up and take Izzy to the hospital!"
With Sophia's cries, James abruptly snapped back to reality, then hurriedly carried Isabelle out. He turned and rushed out the door.
Sophia hurriedly left with the words, "Thank you for taking care of Izzy."
She then ran away in her ten centimeter shoes and caught up with James. As she opened her handbag, she pulled the car door and outstretched her arms to push James, who was setting Isabelle down, into the car. With bossy aura, she ordered him, "Hand me the keys, you get in too. I'm driving!"
Without even waiting for James to search for his keys, Sophia ardently reached her hand out and scoured through his pockets, to which James cried out, "Sophia, what the hell do you think you're touching?!"
With the car keys in her hand, Sophia shot James a scornful look, as though she couldn't be bothered to answer him. Then she put the key straight in the car and started the engine up.
"Bro, you lot hurry and catch up!" screamed James into the courtyard behind him, and then, he got in the car. Before the car door was even closed, Sophia stepped on the accelerator, causing it to jump. The dirty water by the road flew on James's face, and he howled in rage, "Sophia, could you just be normal!"
The car door then abruptly slammed shut, and as the car started up with a roar, it quickly disappeared.
"Mr. Smith, shall we also be going?"
With his assistant's reminder, Alexander quickly came to his senses. He lowered his eyelids, masking the sadness beneath his eyes, then straightened up. He silently pulled back his arms that were ready to hold Isabelle and turned to say a few words to bid brother Chen and his wife farewell. However, the words never came. In the end, he gently nodded, and strode over the the courtyard doors.
Noah and his wife saw Alexander and his assistant to the door, but Alexander still didn't say a word. The assistant enthusiastically said his goodbyes to the couple, then started up the car, and chased after the car in front.
Alexander's car followed closely behind Sophia. They stopped at the entrance of a local hospital downtown.
