《Nothing Lasts Forever》6. Ruined

It is six thirty!

I am late!

I am so late!

I hurriedly unlock the door to my apartment and jog through it.

"Sean, I know that I am late but I can explain" I rush out as I close said front door behind me

I am met with a deafening silence.

Oh, he must be running late as well.

I release a sigh of relief at this revelation.

Great! I still have time to take a shower and get dressed.

-

I zip up the back of my dress before running my hands over the front of it, smoothing it out.

I am dressed in an emerald green dress that stops near my calves. It has a long slit up the side of said dress which I currently do not mind all that much.

The dress has one long sleeve that goes down one of my arms which the other arm is completely bare.

This is okay, I guess.

It is either this dress or the short black one.

I turn around and glance at said dress that is hanging up on my wall.

It is a very slim fitting black dress.

The dress has very thin straps that are made to rest on my shoulders. It has a specific textured pattern around the breast area so that you do not have to wear a bra with it.

The end of the dress stops a few inches above my knees. This dress has a large slit going up one of the legs as well.

I continue to stare at the dress for a few moments before deciding to do my hair.

It is a beautiful dress, but I do not think that I would look good in it.

The last time I wore said dress was three years ago.

I doubt that I still fits anyway.

I retrieve a random hair tie from my shelf and choose to pull my hair up into a slick high ponytail.

As I am pulling my brunette hair up into a high ponytail I am careful not to mess up the curls I did just moments ago.

It takes me a few minutes but I eventually get my hair to where I like it.

"Finally" I sigh out with relief

I briskly make my way out of my closet, switching the light off behind me.

I enter my bedroom only to instantly realize something.

I do not think that Sean is here.

"Sean?!" I loudly call out

There is no response.

What time is it?

"Sean?!" I call out again

I begin to make my way towards the living room.

I immediately realize that not only has the sun gone down for the day, but my boyfriend is still nowhere to be seen.

I rush as quickly as I can towards my bag which I threw down on the couch earlier before going to take a shower.

My heels loudly click against the hardwood flooring as I approach said couch.

Once I reach the couch I grab ahold of my bag and dig through it in search of my cellphone.

It does not take me very long to find said phone.

Once I find my phone I turn it on.

Nine at night, it reads.

My eyes widen at this information.

Where is he?

I unlock my cellphone and dial Sean's phone number.

I bring the cellphone up to my ear once it begins ringing.

It rings a few times before going to voicemail.

"Sean, where are you? Are you in trouble? Are you still doing auditions? Call me back." I say before hanging up.

Maybe he is away from his cellphone.

-

"Sean, This is the fifth time I have called you! It is one in the morning! Where are you?!" I yell into the phone

I bring my cellphone away from my ear and press the red button.

I wait a few minutes before dialing his cellphone number again.

Once I have all of the numbers typed out I bring my cellphone to my ear again.

This time I call him it is different.

I do not hear the ringing of the receiver, instead I hear a robotic lady's voice.

"The person that you tried to call seems to be unavailable at the moment. To record a voicemail leave a message after the tone" she voices

Her phrase is followed by the sound of a beep.

I furrow my eyebrows at this.

Did he just block my number or did his cellphone just die?

I hang up and redial his number only to be met with the immediate sound of the lady's voice, again.

It has been eight hours!

Where is he?!

-

The sound of the front door opening causes me to jump up out of my sleep.

My heart races at the thought of a criminal or photographer breaking into my apartment.

I remain completely silent as I do not wish to alert them of my presence.

It takes the person a few moments to shut the door behind them.

When they do however it sounds like they fall back onto said door.

I continue to stay quiet as I hear the sound of loud footsteps hammer their way towards the kitchen.

A criminal that starts in the kitchen?

Maybe they are hungry?

The heavy footsteps are pretty slow compared to how a normal person walks.

I unconsciously begin to hold my breath as soon as it sounds like it the person is rummaging through my cabinets.

Could this be someone that I know?

I slowly climb off of the couch and stand up to my full height.

As soon as I am completely upright I jump with fright due to the echoes sound of a metal pot dropping onto the tile flooring.

"Shit" the stranger cusses with clear frustration

Hold on a moment.

My eyebrows furrow even more at the sound of the person's voice.

Is that who I think it is?

I quickly make my way towards the kitchen.

I took my heels off before I accidentally dozed off so thankfully I do not have to deal with the sound of them clicking against the hardwood flooring.

As I approach the kitchen I hear the person continue to dig through the pots and pans.

Once I finally reach said kitchen I notice that the light is still off.

I waste no time, flipping the light switch.

In no time at all the kitchen becomes illuminated in a bright white light.

The first thing my eyes come in contact with being my boyfriend rummaging through our refrigerator while surrounded in pits in pans.

"What the hell is wrong with you?!" I exclaim

I am unable to stop the anger that flows out of me in large waves.

Sean turns around in front of the open refrigerator so that he is now facing me.

"Why is there literally no food in this refrigerator?" He asks

I give him an incredulous facial expression.

He sounds like he is hungover.

"Sean, it is three in the morning! Where were you?" I ask

He had never done something like this before.

At least not to my knowledge.

I know that he used to have an alcohol problem around a year ago that got a bit too out of hand, but that is all that he has told me about it.

He claims that he has been completely sober since then.

"Shh!" He shushes news rather harshly

I raise an eyebrow at him.

"The boys took me out to celebrate on landing a part in this huge project that I auditioned for a few months ago" he explains

I cross my arms.

What happened to staying sober?

"That is no excuse for you to ignore all of my phone calls" I tell him with a much calmer tone

Sean furrows his eyebrows at me.

He takes this silence as his chance to stand up from the tile flooring.

"Who are you? My mom?" He quietly mutters underneath his breath

I tighten my jaw at the words that leave his mouth.

"Excuse me?" I ask

The blonde finally catches his balance albeit him swaying the littlest bit.

"Did you stop to think that maybe I didn't call you back because my phone died?" He asks

I cross my arms in front of my chest, becoming frustrated with the attitude in his voice.

"I called you multiple times before your phone died," I inform him

"You could have answered any one of those calls, you could have texted me, you could have even borrowed one of your friends phone's to call me," I list off

"You literally could have tried anything to reach out to me and tell me 'Hey babe, no need to worry. I'm okay with my boys.'" I exclaim

He is making it seem like I am a bad girlfriend for wanting to know that he is safe after he goes missing without as little as a note!

Sean stares at me.

He stares at me for a few seconds only to end up rolling his eyes at me.

"I told you this morning that I would be at auditions all afternoon" he says

He is completely missing my point.

"You also said that you 'should be finished sometime around five or six'" I quote him

Sean groans at this and steps over the pile of pots that he left on the floor, leaving the refrigerator door open as well.

"So we went a bit overtime, no big deal" he tells me

He strolls past me, seemingly making his way towards the bedroom.

Are you kidding me?

"Okay and I understand that," I tell him honestly

"What I do not understand however is why you could reach out to me after you were done and assure me that you were safe" I explain

Sean is completely silent as he enters our bedroom.

I bring my hands up to my head at his childlike behavior.

I massage my head for a few moments to try and ease the throbbing.

Once I feel like I am more at ease I gently sigh as a way to calm myself.

I remove my hands from my head and make my way towards our bedroom.

It does not take me long to reach said bedroom but once I do I notice that Sean is shirtless, laying in our bed.

"Sean" I call out

I wait a few seconds only to receive no answer.

"Sean" I call out again

The blonde haired boy groans out with obvious annoyance.

"What?!" He yells out

He sits up from his previously laying position.

I jump back from his sudden outburst.

"What the actual fuck do you want, Delaney?!" His voice echoes through the small space

"You wanted me to call you? Okay! I'll keep that in mind next time I decide to hang out with someone who isn't you!" He yells out with frustration

My heart begins to hurt at not only the tone of his voice, but the fact that he is making it sound like my presence is annoying him.

"Now you can either shut up and finally let me sleep or leave," he threatens

"Honestly I don't really care which one you do" he finishes

My heart continues to hurt in my chest as I watch him lay back down in bed, even going as for to place a pillow over his face.

That is not even the worse thing that happens tonight.

His cellphone begins vibrating on his bedside table.

His, obviously not dead, phone.

Instead of answering said phone he reaches his hand out and blindly presses the ignore button.

Well, it is nice to know that our relationship was obviously just a way that he could get a little extra cash.

This is the last time that I trust a guy that claims that he 'has been attracted to me for awhile now'.

Truth is they all turn out to be shit.
