《Foster Brothers | COMPLETED》Ch. 34 - Birthday Part One

Today is the day. Today is January 16. The day I was born seventeen years ago.

I have been looking at my ceiling for the past ten minutes. I really didn't want to get up today. It might be Friday, but it feels like a Monday.

When I finally rolled out of bed, I had ten minutes to get ready. I walked to my closet to pick out an outfit. I chose a black bra, a dark green long sleeve shirt with Nike on it, and a pair of light washed blue jeans with rips at the knees. After I changed into that outfit, I matched it with my brown Uggs.

I pulled my hair into a french braid, and I sprayed some perfume on me. I would put on accessories, but I misplaced my jewelry box that belonged to my mother. I'm pretty sure it's in my bathroom, but I'm too exhausted to look.

I grabbed my phone and my bag before heading downstairs. It was really quiet, which is weird because everybody is usually running back and forth to get ready.

"Hello? Guys?" I asked while walking down the stairs.

Nobody was in the living room, and I looked out the window to see everybody's car parked in the driveway. Then I walked into the kitchen where I heard everybody cheer, "Happy Birthday!"

Everybody was here, and they all had smiles on their faces. The girls came over to me, and they hugged me.

"Happy birthday, girl," Madison said.

"How did y'all know?" I asked, looking at Ross and Lisa.

"Rachel called us earlier this week that today is your birthday," Lisa said before hugging me.

"Thank you," I replied.

Brent came to my side, and he kissed me on my cheek. "Happy birthday, princess."

I gave him a side smile, and Micheal hugged me.

"Come on, come open your present," he said, dragging me to the dining room table.

"Present?" I asked, looking back at the group.

"Go ahead, open it," Ross said, handing my a bag.

I pulled the purple tissue paper out of it, and I pulled out a black box. It wasn't just any black box. It was mine. I gaped at it, and I opened it.

The inside of it was fixed, but it looked better than it did before I broke it. The little mirror wasn't broken no more, and the black velvet was nice and soft instead of crispy.

"You wanted it fixed, but you never had time," Nick said behind me.

Tears gathered in my eyes, but I didn't let them fall. I held the jewelry box tightly against my chest.

"Thank you guys," I thanked them.

"No problem, Cam," Gavin said.

"And that's not all. Tonight after the lacrosse game, we are going clubbing" Madison exclaimed, making my eyes widen.

"Don't you have to be like 21 to get in because of the alcohol?" I asked.

"Not this one. It's for teenagers, and there is no alcohol. It's called The Hangout," Hailey informed me.

"There's dancing, food, and a lot of other cool stuff," Nichole said.

"And that's where you will be getting the rest of your presents from us," Anna said.

"You didn't have to get me anything," I said.

"What kind of friends would we be?" Madison asked.

I nodded before my phone started to ring. I looked at the caller I. D. to see that it was an unknown number. My eyebrows furrowed, and I slid the green button.

"I'll be right back," I replied, making them nod.

I walked out of the kitchen, and I walked towards the stairs. I placed the phone up to my ear when I heard Rachel's voice.

"Happy birthday, Campbell," she said.

I felt myself release a breath I didn't realize I was holding.

"Thank you. This isn't your number," I said, looking at the number.

"Well, you see, Adam, accidentally spilled his drink on the table, which held my phone, and it destroyed it," she explained. Adam was her husband of three years. I met him twice, and he seem super nice like Rachel.

"So do you have any plans for today?" Rachel asked.

"Well, I have school then tonight after the lacrosse game, we're going to a hangout thing," I replied.

"That's sounds awesome. I'm going to let you go and have fun. I just wanted to wish you a happy birthday," she said before I heard a door shut in the background.

"Thank you, Rachel. Bye," I said.

"Bye, Campbell," she replied before hanging up.

I walked back into the kitchen where everybody was getting ready to leave. I looked at the time to see it was 8:00. We had to be at school in thirty minutes.

"You guys should be getting to school. Don't want to be late," Lisa said in a sweet high voice, eyeing the boys.

"Right," Nick said, shaking his head with his eyes wide open.

Elliot, the twins, and Micheal gave him a 'seriously?' look on their faces. Ross was trying to hide his laughter.

Strange.

"Bye," we all said before we left the house.

As usual, I rode with Brent. He held my hand the whole way to school. Every since Clary told everybody about me, Brent has been extremely protective of me at school. When people start to stare at me, he gives them a glare that makes them look away, and he always by my side. The boys are this way too.

When he parked the car in the school's parking lot, I got out. He walked around his car, and he threw an arm around my shoulder, pulling me closer to him.

"I have a present for you," he said as we entered the building.

"Mmph. You didn't have to get me a present," I said, looking up at him.

"You always say that I didn't have to this or that, but you got to know by now that I don't mind. You are my girlfriend, and I can give you whatever," Brent replied, giving me a side glance.

We walked to my locker, and I put in my combination.

"You sure?" I asked, grabbing a textbook.

"Positive, princess," he told me, leaning against the lockers.

"Fine," I said as I shut my locker.

Before he could say anything else, Nichole came running up to us with Nick behind her.

"We made the team!" She squealed in excitement.

I smiled,"Really? Omg!"

"Coach posted it by the cafeteria if you want to see the list. I told you we would make it," Nichole said, hugging me.

"And that's not all. Clary nor Naomi made the team. When Clary found out, she was furious," Nichole added.

"Great. Another thing for her to be mad at me for," I replied, sarcastically.

"Don't worry about her," Nichole said as the bell rang.

I nodded as we all walked to class. When we got into the classroom, I sat down in my desk.

My phone started to vibrate in my pocket so I took it out to see it was an unknown number. The numbers looked familiar to me from somewhere, but I shrugged it off. It was probably a random stranger with the wrong number.

I declined, and I put my phone back in my pocket. I have a feeling today was going to be a good day.

When the last bell rang, I walked out of class with Nick, Nichole, and Brent.

"Finally the weekend!" Nick exclaimed, throwing his books in his locker.

"Don't forget we still have to stay here because of the game," Brent replied, making Nick sigh.

"Thank you for crushing my dreams, Brent," Nick said, shutting his locker.

"Anytime, Nick," Brent said with a side smile.

"Crap, I have to go. My brother is here," Nichole said, looking up from her phone.

"Bye, babe," Nick said before kissing her on the cheek.

"Bye. Bye Brent and Campbell," Nichole replied before leaving us.

"I'll meet you on the field," Nick told Brent.

"Alright. I'll be there in a few," Brent said, shutting his locker.

Once Nick left the hallway, Brent handed me something. It was a card with glitter all over it.

"Nessa made you a card for your birthday. She said, quote on quote,'If you don't give this to Campbell, I will steal all of your chocolates.'" Brent said before chuckling.

I smiled, opening up the card. On the inside it had my name in big blue letters with a flower drawn underneath. Then on the next page it had happy birthday written neatly, probably by Martha, with a cake.

"She so sweet. Tell her I said thank you," I told him.

"I will. Now let me walk you out to the parking lot," Brent said, holding my hand.

Before I could say anything, Nick came running up to us.

"Brent, Coach needs us now. It's urgent," Nick said when he reached us.

"Fine. I'm coming," Brent said before turning to me.

"It's fine. Go and I'll see you at the game," I told him.

"Okay," he said, and he kissed me on the cheek.

"Bye guys," I said before walking out of the school building.

Ross was coming to pick me up, but I didn't see his car anywhere in the parking lot. My phone buzzed causing me to look down to see it was a notification from Ross.

Running a little bit late. Be there in a few mins. -Ross

I sent back an 'okay' before seating on the bench on the sidewalk. I set my phone beside me, and I waited for Ross to pull up.

When he did, I got into the car. He smiled warmly at me.

"How was your day?" Ross asked me, driving out of the school parking lot.

"Great. I made the soccer team," I said, proudly.

"That's great. Congratulations!" He exclaimed.

"Thanks," I replied, looking in the mirror.

I noticed a big yellow envelop in the backseat. Ross noticed too, and he cleared his throat.

"That's for Lisa. Something with her case," Ross said, not making eye contact with me.

"Oh," I said, shutting the mirror.

It was quiet until we pulled into the driveway when I got out of the car. I walked into the house where Lisa was sitting on the couch, watching a movie.

"Hey, birthday girl," Lisa said, sitting up.

"Hey, Lisa," I greeted.

"There's a package for you in the kitchen. I'm pretty sure Brent sent them," Lisa said with a smile on her face.

I blushed, and I made my way to the kitchen. Sitting on the counter was a vase filled with white roses. There was a card sticking in them so I grabbed it.

Happy birthday, Campbell! See you soon. -Unknown

I smiled at the note, and I grabbed my phone from my pocket to call Brent. He picked up on the second ring.

"I love the roses," I said, admiring them.

"What roses?" He asked, confused.

"The white roses and the cute little note. They weren't from you?" I asked him.

"No. I was going to send you some flowers, but they would be there tomorrow so I declined," he explained.

"Then who sent these?" I asked.

"Probably from Clary trying to scare you or something."

"Yeah, sure. I have to go, but I'll see you later?" I asked him.

"Definitely. Bye Princess," he said before hanging up.

I put my phone on the counter, and I looked in the flowers to see if there was another note.

I didn't see anything, and I shook my head. I'm getting paranoid. Brent is right. Clary must have sent these to scare me.

Right?
