《Foster Brothers | COMPLETED》Ch. 30 - Everybody Knows

I have stayed after school, watching the boys practice everyday this week. It's currently Thursday, and the day was almost over.

I was in the restroom when Clary walked in with Naomi behind her. I continued to wash my hands, ignoring them.

Clary cleared her voice, tapping her heel. I turned the faucet off, and I looked over to them with bored eyes.

"Can I help you?" I asked, drying my hands with a paper towel.

"So, you and Brent, huh? Who would have thought?" Clary asked, crossing her arms over her chest.

"What's that suppose to mean?" I asked her.

She pursued her lips,"Nothing. I just don't understand why he would date you over me. Especially with your past."

My eyes widen,"How did you-.."

"Find out?" She finished before saying,"I put two and two together. You came from LA where a man was arrested for abusing a teenage girl who was in the foster system. It's really not that hard to figure out."

"All you need is social media," Naomi commented beside her.

"And the funny part is nobody knows who that girl is. I wonder what will happen I somebody were to accidentally send the news an email about the girl," Clary said, walking closer to me.

"Clary, please don't do that," I begged.

If my story is all over the news, Malcom can find me, especially if she tells them where I'm at.

"I won't. But all you have to do is break up with Brent."

I shook my head,"That's not happening."

She gave me a pouty lip,"Well it doesn't look like you have much of a choice. I warned you to stay away from him, and you decided not to listen. Now either break up with him, or everybody will know about your past. Your choice."

At that moment, I didn't care about Malcom. All I care about is my life and my boyfriend. And I'm not going to let Clary take that away from me.

I gritted my teeth together in anger and said,"Go ahead. Do it. I'm not breaking up with Brent because you didn't get what you wanted. So, tell everybody. I don't give a damn."

Without another word, I walked past them. I walked out of the restroom, quickly walking to my class.

I can't believe I said that.

Walking into class, Brent looked up from his work. He looked at me with concern eyes, and mouthed What's wrong? I shook my head to assure him that I'm okay.

He kept giving me concern looks while I worked on the worksheet that was passed out.

Once the bell rang, I gathered my stuff, and I waited for Brent by the door. When he walked up to me, he put his arm around my waist. Then he looked down at me.

"What's wrong?" He asked once everybody left for lunch.

I faked a smile,"Nothing."

"You're a terrible liar," he said.

"Seriously, it was nothing. Clary just told me that if I didn't break up with you then she will tell everybody about me," I said, quickly.

For a minute, Brent didn't blink. I was about to call 911 until he blinked a few times.

"What?" He asked.

"Clary.....just.....told...me-.."

"I know what you said. What did you tell her?"

"To go ahead and tell everybody. I don't give a damn."

"What about Malcom? He can find you, and,God knows, what he would do to you," Brent said.

"Malcom can't live the state of California or he will be right back in jail, and it would look bad on his half when court comes," I said, licking my lips.

When Brent didn't say anything, I said,"Brent, I'm tired of hiding. I'm tired of looking behind my back every second of every day. I want to be normal. And the only way I can be that is be in the present; not the past."

Before Brent could say anything, the door was pulled open to reveal Gaberial and Hailey. They were out of breath probably from running.

"Campbell....you...need to....get out....of here," Hailey said through gasps of air.

"What? What's happening?" I asked, worried.

"There is a lot of reports outside looking for you. Somebody told them about you," Gaberial said, making Brent and I look at each other.

"Clary," we said at the same time.

"Where's the rest of the group?" Brent asked, looking back at the couple.

"Anna and Elliot were trying to get ahold of Mom and Dad. Nick and Nichole are looking for you, and Madison and Gavin too," Gaberial said.

As he said that, Madison and Gavin came into the room with Nick and Nichole behind them. We were on the second floor, so I walked over to the windows. On the ground were several, and I mean several, different reports with cameras.

"What do we do?" I asked, looking back at the group.

"We need to get you out of here. Everybody in the cafeteria are asking questions," Nick said.

"But how do we do that? The cafeteria is in the middle of the school, and the reporters are by the parking lot," Nichole pointed out.

"It's simple. A distraction," Madison suggested.

"That sounds good. Nick, you're up," Gaberial said.

"Aren't they going to interrogate you guys too? You guys are my family," I asked.

"Most likely, but we don't care," Gavin assured me.

"Now how are we going to do this?" Hailey asked, making us all look at each other.

It wasn't actually a bad plan. Nick was going to walk out to the reporters with Gavin. Then Hailey and Nichole were going to distract the people in the cafeteria so Brent and I could get past the cafeteria. Anna and Elliot were going to be our look outs.

Now we were waiting at the top of the stairs, waiting to hear Elliot's voice. When we did, we quietly walked down the stairs.

I saw Anna and Elliot arguing with Clary. We walked past the cafeteria, and we walked out of the door at the end.

All of the reporters were focused on Nick and Gavin that they didn't even seem to look around. When we got into the car, Brent started the engine.

I buckled myself up while he exited the parking lot. I looked back to see the reporters' surprised faces.

"Just when I'm tired of hiding this happens," I mumbled.

Brent grabbed my hand, enlacing our fingers. I looked up to see him staring at the road.

"Don't worry, princess. Lisa will put a restraining order on them," he said, looking at me before back at the road.

"Please don't tell me you're going to miss practice," I said when I saw the time.

"I'm not missing practice," he said, sarcastically.

"I'm serious, Brent. If you don't go to practice, you'll get benched. Once you drop me off, I want you to go back to school to practice for your first game next Friday."

He sighed,"Fine, but I'll come over as soon as I get out of practice."

"You don't have to do that."

"But I will. Or I don't go to practice at all."

I sighed,"Fine."

He parked his car in the driveway, and I was about to get out until Brent grabbed my wrist.

"Everything is going to be okay. I promise," he said.

"I know," I replied, nodding my head.

He kissed me on the cheek before I got out. When I got to the front door, I turned back around. He was still parked in the driveway, waiting for me to enter the house. I smiled and waved before unlocking the door.

It was super quiet since nobody was here. I shut the door, and I dropped my bag by the door. Winter came running around the corner with her tongue out.

I squatted down, and she stopped running when she got to me. I scratched behind her ears. Then I stood back up, and I smiled at her.

"What have you been doing today?" I asked her in a baby voice.

She spun around in circles two times before stopping.

"Alright. I'm going to watch tv, if you want to join me," I told her, walking into the living room.

I grabbed the remote, and I jumped onto the couch. I got comfortable with Winter laying right next to me before turning the tv on.

It was the news. There was a lady with dark brown hair and brown eyes with a man beside her. They were discussing something before they looked back to the tv.

The man cleared his throat,"The story we were covering tonight is a girl named Campbell West. She is in foster care, and her foster father almost killed her before she was taking out of his care."

"It's an awful thing. That poor girl. She's a teen, a child," the woman said.

"You're right Janice. Now we couldn't get an interview with Campbell herself, but we're working on it," the man said once again.

"Now to Steve with the weather," Janice said with a smile.

I leaned back into the couch, clicking the remote to find a different channel. Two hours later, Lisa walked in the door, making me and Winter snap our heads to the doorway.

"Alright. I put a restraining order on the news' reporters so they can't harass you, but there is nothing I can do about school," Lisa said, quickly, throwing her briefcase on the table.

"Thank you Lisa," I said, walking over to her.

"You'll have to deal with the stares though," Lisa said.

"I don't care about that," I assured her.

"You sure?" She asked.

I nodded,"I'm used to it."

"Okay, well, I'm going to finish up some work. You can continue whatever you were doing," she said before walking upstairs.

I nodded, sitting back down to watch my show. My eyes started to get heavy to hold, and before I knew it, I was out like a light.
