《Foster Brothers | COMPLETED》Ch. 8 - Meet Clary, Satan's daughter

"Class, I have an announcement," Mrs. Fray, our history teacher, announced.

I looked towards her, but she was writing something in the board.

She looked back at the class with a smile.

"Thanksgiving break starts after Friday, as you all know. I want you to take this time to write an essay on your family's history," she said, and half the class groaned.

"This isn't going to be hard. You have a whole week to learn information. Plus, it will be fifty percent of your final grade this semester. It has to be 600 words, at least. So now that's out of the way, let's learn about the Civil War."

For the rest of the class I zoned out. I don't know anything my family's past. I don't have any contact with them, either. When my mother left, her family didn't contact us every again. My father was a only child, and his parents died.

When class was over, I walked out with Nichole and Nick, who were talking about sports.

I just need to calm down. I'll just ask Rachel. Yep, that's what I'll do.

"We have to do this assignment in Mrs. Fray's class where we have to learn about our family's history," Nichole told the group.

"I remember that assignment last year. It's not hard and really interesting," Anna said, putting a grape in her mouth.

"Of course, you would think it was interesting," Gavin said, and Elliot threw a grape at him.

Everybody laughed, but me. I was still thinking about that assignment. I was so deep into thought that I didn't realize that Brent tapped my shoulder.

I flinch a little, but I smiled at him.

"You okay?" He asked me.

"Yeah, just worried about that chemistry test after Thanksgiving break," I lied. I am worried about the test, but I have a lot more to worry about right now.

"If you want, I can help you study," he offered.

"That would be amazing, but you really don't have to," I said, grabbing my water.

He waved it off. "I don't mind. It would be my pleasure."

"Well, thank you," I said with small smile.

"Why is Clary Hems walking over here right now?" Nichole asked, nodding her head towards the other tables.

I turned around to see a girl walking towards us with a big grin on her face. When she stopped at our table, she placed her hands on her hips.

Her long red hair was covering her shoulders, and her brown eyes were looking straight at me.

"Welcome to Midville High. I'm Clary, and I'm the captain of the cheerleading team," she introduced herself.

"Hello," I replied, something tells me that this girl is not super nice.

Probably because the girls are giving her death glares. Man, if looks can kill, she would be 18 feet under.

"Clary, what are you doing here?" Nichole asked her.

"I'm welcoming the new girl, duh," she said with a roll of her eyes.

"Where's your sidekick?" Madison asked, crossing her arms.

"Naomi is home sick, but she'll be here for the game Friday night. How are you Brent?" she asked Brent.

A wild feeling rushed over me, but it went away in a second.

"I'm good. Still not looking for a girlfriend right now," he said with a tight smile.

"Okay, but if you ever need one, hit me up," Clary said before walking away.

"Okay, what just happened?" I asked the group.

"Well, that's Clary, Satan's daughter. She's a stuck up little bi-, I mean, person. Man, she makes me so freaking mad,"Nichole said, stabbing her spaghetti.

"Babe, don't take your anger out on the innocent spaghetti," Nick said, taking the fork away from her.

"Why does she make you so mad?" I asked Nichole.

"She flirts with Nick, and she even asked if he wanted to go to her house one night. She flirts with all the boys at this table, even if they have girlfriends," she said, her hands were in fists.

"She acts like we're nobodies," Anna added, looking up from her book she was reading.

"But you guys are somebodies. Y'all are very important to us," Elliot said.

I looked down, and my phone started to vibrate in my pocket. I pulled it out to see Rachel calling me.

"I have to take this. I'll be right back," I told the group.

I walked out of the cafeteria, and into the hallway. I swiped the call button, and I put the phone up to my ear.

"Hello?" I asked, playing with my sleeve of my sweatshirt.

"Campbell, I'm glad to hear your voice again," Rachel said through the phone.

"Yeah, um, thanks. Did something happened? Or..-" I started, but I was cut off.

"No, no, no, nothing happened. I just want to see, well hear, how you're doing," she said, and I smiled a little.

"I'm doing good. The boys and I get along. I have friends, and school is going okay," I told her.

"That's amazing, Campbell. I'm glad you're happy. You're happy right?" She asked.

"I'm getting there," I replied, and I heard some shuffling around.

"What happened?" She asked, sorta like a mother.

"Nothing. It's just I haven't told anybody about my past, and the boys are starting to get worried."

"Why haven't you told them? Not trying to be rude, but I have high hopes that this foster family will be your forever family."

"I have a feeling that I can trust them, but I just can't right now. Malcom destroyed the little trust I had," I said, truthfully.

"I know. You can tell them when you want to," she told me.

"Can you do me a favor?" I asked her.

"It depends. What do you want me to do?" She asked.

"I have this project in history where I have to learn more about my family's history, and I need to contact my grandparents to learn about it. Do you think that's okay?" I explained.

She took a deep breath,"Campbell, I can't give that information out. When they couldn't take care of you, they didn't want to mess up your life. They felt bad that they couldn't take care of you."

"It's okay. I'll just learn about the Cade family at Thansgiving. It's no problem," I lied.

"Campbell, there is one person that knows a lot about your family's history," she offered.

I shook my head even though she couldn't see me.

"No, I don't want to talk to him. Not right now," I said.

"Okay, I'll talk to you later. Have a nice day," Rachel said.

"You too. Bye," I said, hanging up the phone.

I put my phone back in my pocket, and I walked back in the cafeteria.

"Is everything okay?" Gaberial asked me when I sat down.

I nodded,"Yeah, everything is fine."

Everything is not fine. Don't get me wrong, I want to learn about the Cade's history. It's just that I don't think I'm apart of the family.

They can always send me back to Rachel, and I would never hear from them again.

I'm scared. I'm scared that the rest of the family won't like me. I'm scared that I'll mess up, and I'll get back into foster care. I'm scared that they will never love me.

How do I face that?
