《Foster Brothers | COMPLETED》Ch. 3 - The Kings

The bell rang for lunch, and I couldn't be happier. In music class, Madison showed me the instruments. It was nice, but I really need food. Also the music teacher is really strict.

Nichole told me that everybody calls him Mr. Duty since he stinks.

"I didn't know you can play the piano," Anna said. Madison spilled the beans that I can play the piano.

I learned that Nichole was the tomboy of the group, her words not mine, and she plays all kinds of sports. Anna is the aritist of the group. She loves to paint, draw, etc. Madison is girly girly of the group. She is one of those people where you shop till you drop. Again, their words not mine.

"My father taught me when I was ten," I told them.

Memories of him and I playing the piano for hours flooded my mind. My father never acted like he was on drugs around me. He always played with me and helped me with my homework.

But when I found out the truth, I was crushed.

"Campbell?" Nichole asked, waving a hand in my face.

I snapped back to reality. "I'm here, what did you say?"

"I said that the school has amazing cheeseburgers," Nichole said.

"Okay, you're making me hungry. Let's go in," I told them, walking into the lunch room.

There was round tables scattered around the room. Food was laid out on carts around the lunch room.

"Come on, you have to try this," Nichole said, dragging me to the burger section.

I ended up with a cheeseburger, fries, a salad, and a water to drink. I waited for the girls, and they led me to a table in the back. The boys were already sitting down, and there was four open spots left.

Madison sat by Gavin, Anna by Elliot, and Nichole by Nick. The last spot was by Brent. I sat down, and I opened my water.

When I took a sip, I realized that the lunch room became quiet. I swallowed my water, and I turned around. Big mistake.

I feel like I'm an animal in a zoo. People staring at me like I'm going to do a trick.

I turned back around to see everybody at the table eating like it's a regular thing.

"Why is everybody staring at me like I'm an animal?" I asked Anna on the other side of me.

She finished her good in her mouth before talking. "They'll stop looking in a few days."

"Few days? Is the town that small?" I asked.

"Techinally, it's the boys fault," Madison pointed out.

"Don't blame us for this," Nick said, before taking a sip of milk.

"I'm confused," I told them.

"The boys, here, are like celebrities," Nichole said.

"That's the understatement of the year," Gaberial told her.

"If you yelled out that you wanted a girlfriend, girls would be standing in line for you faster than you could finish the word girlfriend," Nichole remarked.

"That's a lie because I would never shout in public. My mother taught me manners," Gaberial told her.

"People started to call us The Kings because of our popularity," Brent commented.

"Yeah, we're like a boyband, except we...are not... a boyband," Nick said, confused at what he said.

He shrugged it off, and he took a bite of his pizza.

"If we ever become a band, The Kings is a pretty awesome name," Gavin said with a sigh.

"We are not becoming a band," Elliot said.

"Come on, we could be like Fall Out Boy of Panic at the Disco. We already have fans. We can even spike our hair to make it look like we're rockstars," Gavin said, smiling at his idea.

"How did we even get on this topic?" I asked.

"It's better if you didn't ask," Madison said, chewing on a grape. I took her advice, and let them continue their conversation.

I went back to eating my fries, and Nichole started to talk about volleyball to the girls and I.

I hate that I can't play volleyball. I use to work an evening shift at a little cafe to pay for the fees. I loved volleyball.

But when Malcom found out that I had a job and I played volleyball, he made sure that I would never play again.

Memories of him beating me with a baseball bat came to my mind. I was screaming for him to stop, but he never did. That was the night he was taken to jail, and I was back in the foster system.

"Campbell," Anna said, looking at me with corcern.

I blinked, and the memories went away.

"You're shaking. Are you okay?" She asked.

The rest of the table was staring at us. I looked at my hand which was holding my fork. It was shaking, violently.

I dropped my fork, and I put both of my hands in my lap.

"I'm fine, just cold," I lied.

"You sure?" She asked.

I nodded. I held my hands together until they stopped shaking. When they did stop, I finished my food.

This is my new life. Malcom is in the past. I need to move on with my life.

Starting now.

Science is my least favorite subject. I don't get it. The equations, the formulas, the elements, etc.

I have always had an A in science, but that doesn't mean that I understand it. I just did the projects, and I study for the tests.

But chemistry is a whole different topic.

I'm going to fail, and I'm never going to get in NYC. I'm going to be working at Subway for the rest of my life. I'm going to be living-...

"You coming?" Brent asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.

Yes, Brent, Nichole, and Nick are in this class.

"Yeah, I just zoned out," I joked.

"You do that a lot," he said. His bright blue eyes were burning into my dull eyes.

"A lot to think about."

Before he could say anything, I walked inside the classroom.

The teacher is a female, and she has long brown hair. Her green eyes are to kill for. She has beautiful tan skin.

She was wearing a navy blue, tight skirt, a dark purple blouse, and black heels. She looks like she's in her twenties. Nichole told me that her name is Ms. Gomez.

I swear I saw a boy looking at her chest area. Gag.

"Good afternoon class," she said, once we all sat down. I sat by Nichole while Nick sits by Brent.

"Today, we will be discovering different reactions of different chemicals put together. You will observe, and you will write your observations down on a piece of paper. You will be working with your lab partner," she said with a smile on her face.

Nichole and I put our safety goggles on, and we put our gloves on. She mixed the chemicals while I wrote down the observations.

Maybe chemistry is easy. Maybe I just overreacted.

"You will have a test in two weeks that count 70 percent of your semester grade. We will be doing notes later this week, and next week," Ms. Gomez told us, twenty minutes later.

I had to jinx it. I had to think of that everything was so easy in life.

"Don't pour too much," Nichole warned me. We switched places ten minutes ago. Every since then, I felt someone's eyes watching me.

I nodded, and I squeezed the tube, and a little bit of the chemical came out. The chemicals fizzed for a few seconds, but died down.

Everything was quiet, but,you know, quietness doesn't last forever.

"Brent! You poured too much!" Nick yelled.

"Nick, get towels! Now!" Brent yelled.

I turned around to see their chemical all over the table and floor. It looked like a bath bomb video gone wrong. The substance was still coming out of the cylinder, fast.

Nick was running around trying to find towels, while Brent was running over to the sink. He placed the substance in the sink, but it spilled all over the floor towards the sink.

To me they looked like a headless chickens running around.

Ms. Gomez was yelling in Spanish at them. While she was running towards Brent, she slipped. She let out a 'umph' when she hit the ground.

Brent and Nick looked like deer caught in headlights.

"Oh, shit!" Nick yelled.

Everybody was either recording this disaster, or they were laughing. Some were doing both. Nichole and I helped Ms. Gomez up.

"Ow, ow, ow," she said, holding her hip.

"Ms. Gomez, sit here, and I will go get the nurse," Nichole said.

"Okay, get the principle, too, while you're at it," she said with a evil smirk.

"Nick, where are those towels!?" Brent yelled. He was still trying to stop the madness from spreading.

That poor, poor sink.

"I don't know. What do you what me to do!? Do you want me to yell 'come out you fuzzy towels!?'" Nick hollered back. He was looking in each cabinet.

I stood by Ms. Gomez, helping her. She was still yelling Spanish words.

Man, I should've took Spanish last year.

By now, Brent was soaked in chemicals. Thank god, that they're not poisonous. The school doesn't trust teenagers with dangerous chemicals.

And right now, I can understand why.

Nick finally found the towels, and he ran to Brent. They wiped the black tabletop, the sides of of table, the sink, the counter, and the chairs.

When it came to the floor, they were out of towels. So, instead of squeezing the towels over the sink to get the substance out of it like a normal person would have done, they grabbed paper towels.

They didn't even get halfway done when the principle and the nurse walked in. People grew silent, and they put their phones away.

The principle looks like the guy off of Modern Family. He looks just like Jay. Old, same nose. People could say they look like twins.

And he did not look happy.

Brent and Nick were pale as ghosts. The nurse rushed over to Ms. Gomez and I. Nichole was behind them.

"Mr. Cade, Mr. Mason, my office now!" The principle's voice boomed in the classroom.

Nick and Brent grabbed their bags, and they started to walk towards him.

"And if I catch a video of this anywhere, you will be suspended," He added.

He gestured the boys out of the classroom. The nurse gave Ms. Gomez an ice pack, and told her it would bruise for a couple of days.

After that, the class helped clean the rest of the mess. When the bell ranged, I couldn't be happier.

It's only my first day, and it was crazy.
