Jungkook helps me stand up, holding my hand as we walk to the car. "I'm driving again. You're in no state to be behind the wheel."
I dry my face, shaking my head. "That's unfair. You said I would take over so it's my turn. We agreed to take shifts, Jungkook."
His jaw clenches as he looks me in the eyes. "I'm driving and that's final. You can drive when you're emotionally and mentally okay. Now get in the car."
I sigh, lip slightly shaking. My nails were boring into my palms from how angry I was at his stubbornness. I'm okay, what's his problem.
"Personally, I agree with Jungkook. You're in no state to be driving, Y/N." Bruno says, slowly cuddling into my legs.
I look down at him, and then back up at Jungkook, who's staring at me with his arms crossed. I sigh. "Fine."
Jungkook smiles. "Good."
We get in the car and drive off.
"What do you think he was?" I sigh out, arms involuntarily folding on my chest.
"Definitely not a human." Jungkook states, grip on the wheel tightening. I feel all the memories of his eyes and his arms come back to me, and I can't help but feel scared. I look down at my lap, and start playing with my fingers. I bite my lip.
Jungkook notices my expression and immediately removes his right hand from the wheel. He reaches out to my hand and takes it in his. His face becomes a light pink colour. "It's okay. He's gone now, you don't have to be scared."
I grip his hand tighter, then sit straight up.
Jungkook bites the inside of his cheek, left eyebrow twitching. He couldn't help but wonder about that man. "What happened anyways? How did you find him?"
I rub the side of my face before speaking, "Bruno found him laying on the floor in the store. He wasn't breathing or anything. I yelled for him to wake up, but when he opened his eyes, they were fully black. It was terrifying. And he screamed really loudly; he had rows of sharp teeth. I ran before he could do anything."

He grips my hand tighter. "Thank god you had Bruno.."
I nod, "Yeah.. he made a good weapon honestly."
Jungkook's head bops up. "This is what the voice meant! The weapon, Bruno! It was right after all!"
I nod, "Oh, yeah it was."
Jungkook licks his lips, his expression getting darker, "But that means it's right about the other things too," I turn to face him, urging him to continue with my eyes, "That means our lives and the lives of all the people who disappeared are resting on our shoulders."
I sigh, looking at Jungkook with a soft expression on my face. "What happens if we don't get the key, Jungkook?"
Jungkook looks at me. "I don't think we wanna know."
I bite my lip, leaning back in my seat. I lift my right arm up, checking the time. 4 pm? Its been so long.
"Alright, Jungkook, pull over. It's time for my shift." I day, undoing my seatbelt.
Jungkook holds my hand tighter. "Shut the fuck up. We're staying like this till it gets dark, you can drive then."
I roll my eyes, clearly annoyed, "Do you know how guilty you're making me feel right now? You've been driving for hours on end, it's not healthy. We're sticking to what we agreed to. Pull over."
Jungkook clicks his tongue, "No."
I groan, "Die, Jeon."
Jungkook smiles slowly. "You wouldn't want that."
I stare at him with an eyebrow raised. "What makes you think that? You're a dick. Die."
Jungkook turns towards me. "You're gonna regret saying that when I'm actually about to die."
"I don't think I will." I state, turning towards the window.
-
Somehow, I ended up falling asleep. My eyes slowly blink open as I take in my surroundings. It was dark out. I look down at my hands, not surprised to see my left one still inside Jungkook's right hand. I smile slowly to myself, and lift my watch up to check the time. 9 pm, okay. Something feels off.
I turn my head to look out the window when realisation suddenly hits me. The car wasn't moving. Why? I turn to look at the driver, butterflies immediately filling in my tummy when I see him laying on his seat, his eyes closed and mouth slowly gaped open. "Aw, he fell asleep," I murmur to myself.

All of a sudden, Jungkook's body shakes slightly, and he tries to snuggle more into the seat. No matter how cold he was, he never let go of my hand. I slowly pry his hand off of mine, getting out of the car. I run into the back, opening the trunk of the car. Lisa always keeps blankets for our camping trips in here.
I immediately spot the black and white blankets, and pick both of them up in my arms, shutting the trunk quickly. I walk around the car and into my seat, shutting the door. I lock all the doors, and then slowly reach over to undo Jungkook's seatbelt. I retract his seat back so he can lay down comfortably, then proceeding to lay the black blanket on top of him. It won't hurt if we take a small break and sleep right?
I then retract my seat back and snuggle into my white blanket. As I'm about to drift off to sleep, I feel a hand grab mine. I turn to see Jungkook, his eyes still closed but hand tightly gripping mine. "Don't go.." he murmurs in his sleep.
I smile slowly, turning my body so it faced him. "I won't."
-
I slowly open my eyes, blinking fast when bright light hits my pupils. I sit up, looking towards Jungkook and seeing him still soundly asleep, his hand firmly clasping mine. I lift my right arm up slowly to check the time. 6 am. We should be there by tonight.
I feel Jungkook stir next to me, and my eyes immediately fall on his face. His eyes slowly open, and he stares at me. I smile at him, "Good morning."
He groans, sitting up. "What time is it?"
I take my blanket off, taking his hand out of mine so I can readjust my seat. "6 am. We should arrive by tonight."
Jungkook nods, adjusting his seat too. He eyes the blanket on his legs for a while, then looks at me, "Where'd you get these from?" I reach into the backseat to grab my bag which had all my clothes and belongings in it. I open a zipper, reaching in for my phone. "They were in the trunk, Lisa keeps them for our yearly camping trips."
I pull out my phone, and Jungkook hums, pulling the blanket off his body and throwing it in the back seat. I power my phone on while Jungkook just stares at me, "Have we tried calling them?"
I turn to face him. "What do you mean?"
Jungkook licks his lips, pulling his phone out of his pocket, "We just came out here without actually checking with Jin and Lisa or calling them. I'm gonna try and call Hyung, you call Lisa."
I stick my lips out, frowning. He's right, I hadn't even called to check on her. I just assumed she went missing. I quickly dial her number, and hold the phone up to my ear while Jungkook does the same. A small, automated voice speaks from the other end of the line, The number you have dialled is not available. Please try again later.
I end the call, not surprised at all. I watch as Jungkook does the same with a blank expression lacing his features. "It says the number isn't available." I nod, agreeing.
I turn my phone back off, moving to get out of the car so I could move into the driver's seat. As I'm about to open the car door, I hear Jungkook call out to me. "Um.. Y/N, where's Bruno?"
I freeze, turning back around to face Jungkook. My eyes travel all over the back seat, seeing everything but the little dog. My eyes widen as I stare into Jungkook's. It's as if we're both thinking the same thing. I immediately reach for Jin's duffel bag in the back seat, handing both Jungkook and myself a gun. We give each other a look before stepping out of the car, clutching the guns tightly in our hands.

The Simulacrum
"He who fights with harem tropes should see to it that he himself does not become a harem protagonist. And if you gaze for long into a narrative, the narrative gazes also into you." --- Friedrich Nietzsche (probably?) How would you react if one day you woke up inside an environment running on tropes and clichés? For allegedly average high-schooler Leonard Dunning, this question became quite relevant when one day he woke up in a pristine city on a strange island in the middle of the Atlantic, without any memories, surrounded by classmates who are barely more than characterless placeholders, and with a classic indecisive harem protagonist and his impossibly beautiful love interests for friends. That would be hard to deal with already, yet his investigation into the tropes governing the world, trying to avoid harem shenanigans, and his odd blend of outside-context knowledge, unique abilities, and a penchant for causing trouble wherever he goes ends up dragging him into the center of the action anyway. Disclaimer: This is a tongue-in-cheek, slice of life romantic comedy, with occasional sprinkles of combat and mystery to spice things up. Please do not expect a straight up deconstruction beyond some in-universe meta-commentary by the characters.
