《Marvel One-Shots》Going Home

Tony couldn't breath. That was something he was aware of. All he could see was Peter walking toward him, fear evident in his doe brown eyes. The kid stumbled towards him and grasped at Tony. Stark knew what was happening, he just didn't want to see it happen. It wasn't supposed to happen like this. Peter was supposed to go home and hug his aunt. He was supposed to go to college and do what he always wanted to do. He was supposed to have a life. And now it was all disappearing with him.
Tony tried to tell thr kid that it was all going to be okay but he knew he was trying to reassure himself too. He watched in horror and sadness as someone be allowed to get close to him slip through his grasp. Something he always seemed to have happen to him. He watched as Peter apologized to him and then dusted away into nothing.
The silence was deafening.
Before he knew it tears rolled down his cheeks as he tried to grab the dust that now resounded where Peter had been moments before. Stark grasped at his chest trying to breath but he couldn't. He just couldn't. Why couldn't it be him? He deserved to disappear into nothing, not the kid who just wanted to help everyone, the kid who lightened up his day when ever he came to help Tony in the lab.
He heard footsteps coming near and he quickly snapped out of the dark void in his mind. He looked up with a tear-stained face to see Nebula crouching down to his level, "Look Stark, I know this is hard but we should get back to Earth." She turned around and started to walk off. "You know, we all lost someone."
Tony let those words sink in. He knew that others were feeling the same as he was. He was supposed to be strong, the Iron Man who always saved the day. Then why did it hurt so bad?
He climbed into the ship that Nebula had called down after the Snap. She feared something like this would happen and planned ahead. Stark watched with a dead look as she started the ship and took off. He stared out of the window watching as the orange landscape grew smaller and smaller. He could only think that he left the kid behind. And he believed it. He should have never let the kid come along. He was glad to see the kid, but his safety on the trip was what scared him. He shuddered knowing that because he failed Peter, and he failed the people that cared about the teenage superhero.

"Stark? You know that even if he didn't come with you he still would've been dusted. It's not your fault."
Tony looked up to see Nebula, cross-armed standing across the room. "By the way, we'll be back to Earth in a few days time. I'll send a message to where your friends are. Maybe they'll tell us where they are staying."
He said nothing. He knew what she said was true but he had taken responsibility in making sure nothing happened to Peter. He closed his eyes and drifted off, not aware of the hell he was entering.
————————————————————————
The first thing he noticed was that it was dark, too dark for his liking. He sat in silence unaware of what he was supposed to be in. He heard a slight whistle coming from his left and looked over to see a bright light coming nearer. He was going to go near it but quickly crowded in on himself in fear recognizing what was coming. The missle flew over his head and up into a glowing hole.
Then it exploded.
Tony felt himself falling. He didn't know for how long but when he finally stopped it wasn't a nice ending. He hit a tiled floor abruptly and got the wind knocked out of him. He gasped in pain but stood up shakily. He recognized this place. It was the Avengers Compound. He ran around hoping to find his old teammates, desperate for help. He didn't know what was going on. Then, he heard voices. He walked into an old meeting room and saw the Rouge Avengers all sitting around. Pepper was on the side leaning against a wall. "Thanks for letting us in Pepper. I know we've been on shaky terms since Germany but with this threat I think we were needed here. Good that iron man isn't around anymore," Steve said as his fellow teammates nodded in agreement. Tony felt his eyes watering. Normally he didn't care what others thought of him but what broke his heart was when Pepper nodded with a sight grin on her face.

"He failed me. He failed his family. He even failed the kid. I'm happy he's gone."
The nightmare ended. Tony woke up gasping for air, his cheeks wet from his sobbing. Nebula was looking at him with concern, he thinks. She was hard to read. "Look who's up. Your friends answered. They're in Wakanda. We'll be there in a few minutes. You might want to pull yourself together."
Tony nodded. He got up and wiped his eyes. 'No more crying. Your iron man for heavens sake.'
After a short amount of time, Tony watched as a small crowd of people crowded the surrounding area as Nebula landed the ship. She opened the pilot door and walked outside.
Tony followed out hesitantly, due to him and the others not being on the best terms since Germany. He looked up at the new land he was it. Technology flowed everywhere and for a moment he was happy. But that ended as soon as he saw the flakes of dust scattering the sky. So many people had been dusted.
He watched as Steve walked up to him and hugged him. "It's nice to see you Stark."
"Yeah, you too."
The ones who were alive went to one of the many meeting rooms in Wakanda. Steve sat at the head of the table while the Tony sat at the other end. They spoke of who died. The weird raccoon teared up at the mention of his fellow space travelers who didn't make it back. Apparently both Wanda and Vision had died and the kind of Wakanda as well.
Tony was quiet as they all talked about the ones they lost. Steve talked of Bucky and so did Sam. Most of the Avengers said their apologies to others but Tony remained silent. That's what got Sam pissed off.
"What's your problem man? We all lost someone today and you won't even say I'm sorry for your loss. What the hell is up with you? We lost people we cared about and you didn't."
"Sam-," Steve started, but his voice died down when he say Stark trembling with fat tears rolling down his face.
"Shut the hell up. You know nothing. I lost someone who I cared about so much and he didn't even know. I lost a son. So you should shut the hell up." Tony slammed his hands on the table and walked away slamming the door. Tears pooled remained on the glass table, as the others stared at the door in shock.
Steve found Tony outside. He was sitting down and staring at the sunset. "He was supposed to be here."
"Who Tony?"
"Peter. That Spider-kid. He was like my kid you know."
"I'm so sorry Tony. I wish-,"
"Don't say anything. It's my fault. I let him come along, I let him get hurt."
Steve sighed and sat down next the Tony.
"I hope their okay. And that they'll take care of each other."
Tony snorted. "I hope they can live with that kid's movie references." He signed as he breathed in the air, " I hope they watch over him though."
The two looked out at the land of Wakanda. "We'll get them back. We'll get them all back."
That was something they agreed on.
That night, Stark made a promise. He was going to get Peter back, and when he did he would never let the kid go. Whatever it takes.

Getting Hard (Journey of a Tank)
Herald Stone always built tank characters in every MMORPG he played. To be immortal—that was his first Goal, a simple childhood dream. However, the turbulent realities of life put an end to his gaming days. Years passed, and Herald Stone, now having attained success and stability, was presented with the opportunity to redeem himself...to fulfill his first Goal. Trivial? Childish? Others might think so. But Herald Stone always fulfilled his Goals—every single one. No matter what. Immortality beckoned in Mother Core Online, and this time Herald Stone would answer. Choosing a long-forgotten race, hidden away in an unknown region, the journey of an immortal tank begins. This is the tale of Herald Stone...getting hard. Schedule: Mon-Wed-Fri ~1.8k-2.3k words per chapter. Also published on Scribblehub. My other ongoing story: REND | Royal Road Expect a focus on building a true tank in MMORPGs. Heavy game elements and numbers are present. But actual math will take a backseat to strategies involving skill builds and synergies that steadily become more complex while remaining understandable. The main character is atypical in LitRPGs or web novels as a whole. He might take some getting used to. Character arcs will develop over a long period. What you see now will be different as the main character changes. The start of Getting Hard is slow-paced (more so than others of the genre) and includes world-building and character development before focusing on the LitRPG.
