I keep summer memories

in glass jars

times when we held hands

swaying with every step

as we dashed around trees

through flower fields and meadows

our laugh imprinted in the grass

we breathed in the clouds

to clear the sky overhead

felt like a dream

now a distant memory

as you lie in my arms

lights dim and window open

the breeze brings it all back

longing for the past

I take you outside

up on the hill of hearts and flowers

we look at the stars

an echo of what once was

a promise of what will be

a comfort of what now is

no more childhood naïveté

and bashful looks

no big oaths yet

of a future spent together

only the grounding reality

of being by each other's side

you smile and I know peace
