While you were dead;

my mind turned into a void

whenever I slept,

dreaming of my baby boy.

In bed, wrapped in your sweater,

I still had your feather

on a chain around my neck;

wishing it were your hands instead.

Wings turned to dust

when you tried to kiss fire;

knowing you weren't just,

you were just a liar.

Instead of you, I paid the price;

while warmth consumed you,

it left me cold as ice,

like your frozen sacrifice.

Couldn't let it go,

you were just so

helpless;

knew I should have cared less.

Now I hate summer,

can't stand the sun

'cause it wants to cover

that you were only mine.

While you were dead;

but now you're back,

spewing out excuses,

knowing that it's useless.

'Baby, let's have some fun,'

to which I chime,

'Icarus, honey, this time

fly closer to the sun.'
