Night befalls the dreamy ballroom

as you let yourself be carried

by an illusion through your moonlit tomb;

all your faults dismissed, buried.

Your mind's overlaid by a numbing peace

as a lazy grin slowly settles on your lips

which don't talk, only smile and kiss

in hopes of lessening the pain under your ribs.

And as one partner soon leaves you,

another fills your arms' lonely space;

each makes your imagined dance continue

even as they take the others' place.

When all is said and all is done,

heart broken by failure and soul crushed,

you looked for any traces - he left none;

only in the dark, your fingers lightly brushed.

his gaze lingered, he slipped away
