"Jordyn! It's been to long!" An well dressed graying woman says as she squeezes him into a hug.

"It's only been a month." Jordyn says after he is freed from the hug.

"Still my darling boy. A month is far to long"

A huge smile appears on her face as she squeezes Jordyn's cheeks. He eyes slowly drift over to me.

"Oh my goodness I'm so sorry. Where are my manners. My name is Margaret" she says holding a hand out to me.

I hesitantly shake her hand. Why was this so awkward?

"Nice to meet you Mrs. Montgomery. I'm Hazel"

"Montgomery? Oh no dear. I'm Gigi's mother. Jordyn is just like a second son to me."

My cheeks flush red in embarrassment. I've been here all of five minutes and already screwed things up.

"And who might this handsome man be?" Margaret asks leaning over and looking at Ollie.

"This is my son Oliver"

Margaret's face lights up.

"Hi Oliver!"

Ollie hides behind my legs as Margaret reaches out to pinch his cheeks.

"Sorry he's really shy"

"It's no worries dear. Anyway come in come in! Jordyn can give you a tour. Can I get you anything to drink?"

"Do you have any water?"

Margaret nods her head and hands me a water bottle from the fridge.

"The rest of the guests will be here soon so make yourself at home dear"

"Come on I'll show you around" Jordyn whispers in my ear.

I nod my head and he places his hand on the small of my back before leading me out of the kitchen.

"Sorry about Margaret, she can be a little intense at times." He says shoving his hands into his pockets.

"She's great, really. I wish I had someone like her around" I reply with a small smile.

"Yeah she's great just sometimes to much. But I still love her" he says with a slight chuckle

Before I can respond Ollie tugs on my arm.

"Momma?"

"Yes honey."

"I need to go potty"

"I guess our first stop will be the bathroom then huh?" Jordyn says with a laugh

After a right at a hallway and then another right through a set of doors we had finally made it to the bathroom.

"Here we are little man."

Ollie lets go if my hand and goes into the bathroom leaving Jordyn and I alone in the hallway.

"He's a cute kid Hazel." Jordyn says breaking the silence.

"Thanks"

"He looks just like you"

"Yeah he does, thank god."

I glance over at Jordyn and see a confused look on his face as his eyebrows shoot up.

"Is his dad not attractive or something?" Jordyn says with a grin.

Unease spilled over me at the question.

"N-no it's not that. I just don't need the reminder"

Jordyn hums as he leans against the wall.

"Jordy!!!" A voice squeals.

I whip my head around a see a gorgeous raven haired girl. She had full lips and her hair was down to her shoulders in loose curls. She had bright eyes and a sweet smile.

"Gigi! Happy birthday!" Jordyn says embracing the girl in a hug.

When they pull away her eyes land on me.

"Who's this?"

"Gigi this is Hazel, Hazel this is Gracie."

Gigi's nose scrunches.

"You know how much I hate that name Jordy" she says smacking his arm playfully.

She turns to me and holds out her hand.

"Call me Gigi. I'm so glad that you're here. Jordy told me he was bringing someone but I didn't realize it was going to be his girlfriend!"

Jordyn clears his throat as his cheeks get red.

"No Gigi she's not my girlfriend."

"Just friends" I add on

She face softens.

"Oh I'm so sorry!"

I smile at her and duck my head.

"I was just starting with the tour of the place."

Gigi's face lights up.

"Oh wait until you see the stables! And the lake! Goodness it's beautiful this tome of year."

"Momma?" Ollie's voice breaks through.

"Hey baby, this is Gigi"

Gig squats down and holds out her hand.

"Hi handsome. What's your name?"

"O-Oliver"

"Well Oliver it's nice to meet you."

Ollie nods his head and stands behind me.

"Sorry he's a little shy" I say a I ruffle his hair.

Gigi waves a hand at me.

"It's fine!"

"We should continue with the tour so we can make it back for dinner. Margaret is a monster about timing" Jordyn says with a chuckle

"To the stables then?" He asks

"I don't know. Ollie can't go outside-"

"Oh I'll take care of him! I love kids!"

"Uh okay I guess, if you don't mind"

"Not at all! It'd be my pleasure!"

I turn to my son.

"Ollie honey, I'm going to be back soon ok? Can you stay here and hang out with Gigi for a little?"

Ollie looks from me to Gigi before slowly nodding his head.

Gigi holds out her hand to him and he slowly takes it. Ollie looks back at me before they walk down the hallway.

I watch Ollie and Gigi until they turn the corner and disappear from my sight.

"He's in good hands. Gigi is a teacher"

Relief washes over me. It's not that I thought she wasn't trustworthy. It's just hard for me to have other people be responsible for him.

"You'll love the horses." Jordyn says as we walk through the house.

I was trying my hardest to memorize the path we were taking. This place was huge and I felt intimidated by it. It was very lavish and not what I was used to at all.

After stepping outside Jordyn starts leading me over to the stables. There was a small rock path that led from the house to the barn. And next to the barn was a huge fenced off pasture that had horses grazing in it.

"Wow"

"Those aren't even the friendly ones." Jordyn says with a chuckle as he pulls the barn door open.

Four horses are in stalls in the barn. Two black ones, a brown one, and a pinto. They were beautiful.

I walk up to the pinto and hold my hand out. She nudges my hand and I start stroking her snout.

Jordyn sits on a small hay block next to her stall and claps his hands together in front of him. He watches me as I continue to pet the horse.

"What's her name?"

"Delilah"

Delilah lets out a snort when she hears her name.

Jordyn and I both laugh as she shakes her mane.

"Hazel?"

"Yeah?"

"Can I ask you a question?"

I turn to him and see the seriousness on his face.

"Yeah sure"

"Earlier you had said that you wished you had someone like Margaret around. Why did you say that?"

I stop petting Delilah and drop my head. It was about time someone knew my story. But I was afraid. Jordyn wouldn't tell anyone or hurt me. I knew he wouldn't.

"I didn't have the best life growing up. My dad left when my mom was pregnant with Opal. She struggled so much for us. She almost gave up. But then she met someone. He changed her. She was finally happy. A few years after she got married, she was got sick with a brain tumor. The doctors tried everything but during surgery her heart stopped. I was only ten years old. Our step dad got custody of us. He was fine until one day he just snapped. He started drinking regularly and would come home wasted. Then one time when I was sixteen he came home drunk out of his mind. He came in my room and woke me up."

Jordyn's face drops as tears brim my eyes.

"He told me that I had to replace my mother. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't get him off of me. I fought him, I scratched him and hit him anywhere I could. He told me that if I didn't let him he would go to Opal's room. So I stopped fighting. Patrick took everything from me that night. It was days before I came out of my room. The neighbors filed a noise complaint about him a few days later and the cops came to our house and found him passed out on the floor from all the booze. They questioned Opal and I. I told them what he did to me and he was arrested. Opal and I got sent into the system."

I wipe the tears from my eyes and sniffle before continuing.

"A few weeks after that I found out I was pregnant with Ollie. It was so hard to find foster parents that were willing to take all three of us. I couldn't be separated from Opal. She needed me, and so did Ollie. When I turned 18, after I got out of the system, I got custody of Opal and got a job. I was in between jobs for the longest time before I finally decided to move to New York. I struggled finding a job until one day I had met Nick's old assistant at the coffee shop I was working at. She told me about the opening he had. I went in for the interview and you know the rest."

For a long time Jordyn doesn't say anything. I look at him and study his expression. He didn't know what to say I could tell.

"I'm so sorry Hazel."

I flash him a weak smile before taking a deep breath and wiping my eyes.

"We should probably get back." I tell him with a shaky voice.

Jordyn looks to the ground and nods before leading me out of the stables and back to the house.
