Where was the child??

She looked as shocked to see me as I was.

But why?? And why was she here in the first place?

" You!! You came here as well? Why are you following me? " She accused me the moment she saw me.

" Oh, God!!! You stupid girl, use your brain, I was here before you. You are following me. " I said.

" What is she doing here?" I asked the lawyer. But before he could say anything, she also asked him.

" Tell him that I am not following him, you called me here. " She said.

He called her as well?? Why??

And why the hell the child is not here till now??

She has no value for time. I need to discipline her.

" You both know each other?? " The lawyer asked.

" No!!! " We both said in unison. He looked surprised but smiled.

" Very well !! Let me do the honour of introducing both of you formally. Ms Mehta, please meet, Mr Manik Mudit Shah, the new heir of the Shah Empire. " He gave my introduction to her.

" The grandson of Mr Shah? " She confirmed with her eyes so wide open that I was scared, they might come out.

" And, Mr Shah, she is Ms Roshni Mehta, your ward. You will be her guardian till she is well educated and fully settled, I mean married to a well settled decent man." He said.

I was supposed to be a guardian to a girl child...

She was a girl, alright... But not a child.

" What?? I think there is a serious misunderstanding somewhere... She can't be... She was... Is a girl. " I said.

" Hey, what do you mean what you said ?? There is a misunderstanding, she is a girl ?? Of course, I am a girl. What is there to discuss about it?? Anyone can say that I am a girl... You are behaving as if it is an issue of national security?? " She gave her expert comment.

" There is no misunderstanding, she is a girl indeed. Did, I say, she was a boy?? " He smiled at his stupid joke.

I swear, I didn't like that man ever and today I really wanted to beat him to the pulp for laughing at such a thing.

" It is not funny... I was supposed to take care of the girl child and she is definitely not a child. " I said.

" I agree, but your grandfather treated and called her as a child and he added the clause to the will, so if you have a problem, find a time machine and go back to the past and argue with him, please. There would be no use in fighting with me as I don't have the authority to change the will or the clause. I can only see that the clauses are following perfectly. So, you have no choice but to take care of her. " He said with a calm smile.

Someone, please give me a gun today... At least one out of these two would be killed by me.

" By the way, how old is she?? " I asked.

" She will be nineteen in a few months." He said with a smile.

" So?? She can take care of herself, all I need is to pay for her expenses. And what is she doing... I mean studying? " I asked.

" Hello?? I am right here!! You both are talking about me as if, I am invisible. If you want to know something about me, ask me!!! " She said to me.

" Ok, Ms Mehta... Tell me about yourself. " I said sarcastically.

" I am pursuing a bachelor of commerce, first year. " She said.

" Ok !! What is your future plan??" I asked.

" I want to be a Chartered Accountant. "

" Great!! So?? Tell me what else is to be done. Please don't hesitate... Give me the whole do's and don'ts list " I said sarcastically.

" Sure!!! You have to take care of her education, expenses, safety and health. You help her in shaping her career and her marriage. " He said.

" Ok!! " I said.

" Apart from her education, you give her a fixed amount of money for all her other expenses. She should get everything within the reasonable limit. She must not be deprived of anything essential. " he said.

" Of course !! That goes without saying. Is there any minimum or maximum range of allowance? " I asked.

" A minimum of about Rs fifteen thousand is to be given to her every month other than her educational expenses." He said.

" But... "

" No, that is the minimum that is fixed. You can't change that. " Be said.

" I was saying, that she should get at least twenty thousand per month..." I said.

I just didn't want to see her in case, she needed more money every month. So I was ready to pay much more.

" I am so glad that you increased her allowances. " The lawyer said.

" Yes, the inflation rate is high, I don't want her to feel awkward or shy in asking for more money. " I said.

" It is good that you are comfortable around each other since she is going to stay with you in haveli from now onwards. " The lawyer said with a smile.

I expected him to smile and say yes, but that weird fellow shook his head with a very serious expression.

I shut my eyes and cursed silently.

His lips twitched and he smiled.

I was sure he was a sadist. He was enjoying seeing me suffer like this.

" How can we stay in the same house??" I asked in an irritated tone

" Why not? The haveli is so big, I am sure there would be no issue regarding personal space and all... You both can live in different wings of the haveli. " He said calmly.

" She is a young girl and it is weird that we stay in the same house. There is no one around, I mean no woman from my family is staying with me. And I am not even married. " I said.

" Yes!! It would be very weird. " She said.

" Roshni, please don't argue. You are a young girl, we need to think of your safety." He scolded her with authority, and she nodded.

" Mr Shah, if she stays away she has to stay with strangers, which is even weirder. Sorry, but she is your responsibility and you need to keep her safe and sound." He said and I nodded.

" Of course, it is ok, with me. I am sure, Maharaj Ji would not mind making food for one more person. " I said with a smile.

" He won't mind, she has been staying with your grandfather, on and off whenever she had holidays. As it is she will come after a few days when the hostel will be renovated. " The lawyer said.

" Great!! So if this meeting is over, shall I make a move?? "

" Sure. And please give the monthly allowance to her. " He said and I smiled at both of them and gave her twenty thousand. She looked serious.

" Ms Mehta, here is my phone number, you can call me whenever you need any help. Give me your number and the details of your college and hostel as well. "

" Roshni!!" She said.

" You must call me Roshni. " She said.

"Ok," I said, she gave me her details.

" I'll take your leave now. Feel free to call me if you want any help. " I said and came out.

I took a deep breath and shook my head.

Oh, God!! She is going to stay in haveli?? I will stay away as much as possible.

" Mr Shah!!! " I heard and turned to see Roshni standing there.

She was giving me the money back from the money I just gave her. It was funny and cute.

Oh, God!! She is too old for them.

" Mr Shah, did you get these gifts for me?? Thanks for the sweet gesture but what would I do with them? " The lawyer said.

Seriously?? Is he really a lawyer?? And why do only I get to meet and deal with all the unusual people?

" I am sorry but I got them for... Her. But I guess she is too old for all these things. " I said. She smiled immediately.

" You got gifts for me?? Can I take them? " She asked with excitement.

" Yes! They were meant for you. " I was saying while she literally snatched the bags from the lawyer and saw the gifts.

Thank God!! I didn't get a Barbie doll or Hannah Montana or Hello kitty accessories...

" Awww... Thanks, they are so good. " She smiled and her face lit up.

" Sorry... I thought you were a child... " I was still saying.

And she gave me a quick hug. And stepped back before I could even react.

" Sorry?? Why?? They are so cute... I loved them. And girls are never too old for stuffed toys and chocolates. " She said with a sweet smile.

I was glad to see her happy.

Maybe she was not that bad...
