The boys looked at me uneasily but continued to walk away anyway, leaving me in the middle of the water by myself. I sat down on the rock Eddie had been sitting on and waited.

I was angry at Patrick. Angry at him for bullying my friends when he told me he'd stop and angry at him for making me feel the way I did.

I could hear the sounds of fire coming closer and closer and I felt myself becoming angrier and angrier. Maybe I was overreacting, maybe I wasn't. That didn't matter at the moment, though. All that mattered was that I was pissed off and I needed to let off some steam.

Finally, I saw Patrick appear in the distance holding what looked to be a lighter and aerosol can. I watched as he held the spray to the flame and pressed the nozzle, creating a large burst of fire. I could tell, even from twenty metres away, that he enjoyed it. He didn't notice me until he was about ten metres away, and when he did, he almost dropped his lighter.

He walked towards me, slowly, and stopped when he was only a couple of metres away. "What are you doing here?" Patrick asked, a look of suspicion on his face.

"Waiting for you." I replied and stood up. He noticed the anger in my eyes and I saw his suspicion increase.

"How did you know I was going to be here?" he asked carefully, putting the lighter in his pocket.

"I heard you." I replied.

"You heard me? How did you know who it was?"

"I just did." I lied. I didn't want to tell him about finding Ben.

Patrick studied my face, but I made sure to keep it blank. I wiped it of all anger and tried to remain as calm as I could. "Okay, well I'm here. What do you want?"

I paused, thinking. "I want to know what you meant when you said we were the same, the other day. Because I sure as hell can't at all see how we have anything in common." I replied, my gaze unwavering.

"How we're the same?" Patrick asked and I nodded. "Well, we're both real."

"We're both real? Well I'd sure hope so." I raised an eyebrow. "Be serious for a minute please. How are we the same?"

"We're both real." he repeated and I shook my head, needing more of an explanation. "We both exist. Nobody else does, but we do. I thought I was the only one, but then I met you. I mean, my brother was real too, but I wasn't happy about that. I'm not sure if I'm happy about you, either."

"You have a brother?" I asked.

"Had." he replied.

"What happened to him?" I asked.

"He died." he said simply.

"Oh." I replied. "I'm sorry."

"Don't be. I'm not." I stared at him for a few moments, unsure as to what he meant.

"I still don't understand." I said, shaking my head. "What do you mean by us being real?"

"I don't know how to explain it anymore than I already have, new girl. I've told you everything." he replied.

"You really haven't." I replied with a sigh. "Okay, well I'm obviously not going to get anymore out of you. So how about I ask an easier question."

Patrick nodded, so I continued. "What do you feel about me?"

"I feel lots of things." he replied simply.

"Could you give me more than that?" I asked. Geez, this guy was an expert at being vague.

"I'm not really sure how to describe them."

"Well, are they good feelings?" I asked He hesitated before nodding. "Okay, so are they friendly feelings, or are they more?"

"I don't have friendly feelings for anyone." he replied.

"Fine. Tell me, then, why don't you do relationships? And don't give me that bullshit 'waste of time' excuse."

Patrick swallowed and moved closer to me. "Because I had never felt strongly enough about someone to want to be in a relationship with them. Fuck buddies are easier."

I wanted to take a step back, but I stopped myself. I was going to stay strong and look him straight in the eyes. "So you just think of me as a fuck buddy?"

Patrick shook his head, his eyes never leaving mine. "No. I think of you as more."

"You're not making any sense." I sighed, rubbing my temple. There were too many mixed signals.

"I guess it means I can see us being more than just fuck buddies." he replied.

"More how?" I asked, my heart feeling as if it was beating out of its chest.

"More, as in maybe being in a relationship. But I don't know how to do relationships." he admitted seriously and I felt my stomach do a flip. Did I even like him that way? Did I even want to be in a relationship with him?

"I don't know either." I replied, honestly. What I'd expected to be a confrontation turned into something that I had not expected.

"Well, what do people in relationships do besides making out?" he asked and I almost laughed.

"I'm not entirely sure to be honest." I replied. "But I do know that before people get together, they usually go on a couple of dates. To see if they really do want to be in a relationship, you know?"

"Dates? Seriously?" he asked.

"Sounds pretty stupid doesn't it?."

"Okay, then I guess we're going on a date." he said, grinning. My eyes widened. I didn't expect that.

"Jesus, I never thought I'd being doing this much for a girl." he looked to the sky and shook his head.

We were silent for a couple of moments before he spoke again. "Tomorrow, the Aladdin theatre at seven pm. I hope you like scary movies because I've heard there's this really good werewolf one that's showing."

"You know I can't say horror is my favourite genre, but why not." I shrugged. He grinned back at me. Suddenly, we heard a noise coming from inside the sewer. Patrick shook his aerosol can and made his way towards it.

"Sorry, I've got to catch this little shit." he said. I opened my mouth to say something, but forced myself not to. I should have let him know that Ben wasn't in there and that he would be wasting his time, but he could learn it the hard way. I watched as he stepped into its mouth and soaked his feat in the muddy grey water.

"Oh, by the way." Patrick said and turned to look at me. "I'm not going to change. Look, I'll stop messing with your friends if that's what you really want, but that doesn't mean I'll suddenly like them."

I gave him a small smile. "I know, and I guess I'm okay with that. I'm sorry if it seemed like I was trying to change you or something, I just don't like seeing my friends hurt."

"I don't like seeing you hurt either, unless it's me who caused it." he said. Another splash sounded from inside the sewer and Patrick shook the can again before walking towards it. When he disappeared from sight, I heard the sound of fire.

"I hear ya tits." his voice echoed through the tunnels. I rolled my eyes and started to walk away. He was going to have a nice surprise when he realised Ben actually wasn't down there. He'd have walked in yucky grey water for nothing. I chuckled to myself.

By the time Patrick realised that it wasn't Ben who was in the sewers with him, I was too far away to hear his screams.
