《A Baby For The Beast》26. The Evil Twin

My eye brows cringed as I wondered what was going on between them both. Felicia looked so angry as she walked away from Rook Francesca.

I shifted in my spot, when she cussed out loud, stomping her feet angrily.

“This can’t be right.”

I told myself, wondering.

Could Francesca be up to no good again?

Was she planning to eat from her?

Oh no…

I had to do something.

The moment these thoughts imprinted on my mind; my hands reached for the door. I hastily walked out of my room, only for my gaze to connect to Francesca’s.

“Lovely day, isn’t it?”

I sarcastically said, waving to her with a look of mockery with my chin up.

“Stay away from my business, Ava.” she snorted, before jamming the door shut.

Her business?

I wouldn’t be staying away if I wanted to see the girls alive.

I ran after Felicia, but she was too fast. Seemed like that brief between Rook Francesca and I slowed everything.

“Felicia!”

I tried to call her from wherever it is, she was hiding, but she didn’t reply.

Thus, my wolf decided to show up to help. I sniffled the air, trailing her scent which led me to a room which seemed more like a deserted place. I didn’t remember ever been here.

An old room, with lots of dust, brown shelves and scattered pieces of woods on the floor.

Right ahead was Felicia, sitting on one of the chairs in her working assistant gown.

“Hey.”

I let out. She looked up, widening her eyes in surprise. Quickly, she wiped the tears off her face, which held her years of experience with the wrinkles spread across.

“Ava…? My apologies, Knight Ava?” she corrected, asking. “What are you doing here?”

“I…um, wanted to know my duties as the new Knight. Was hoping you’ll reach out to me.”

I thoughtlessly let out.

I mean, that wasn’t the reason I followed her down here?

“Oh my! My apologies, once again. I will be with you shortly if that’s okay.” she answered.

She stood up, dusting her lower skin which the gown attached to.

“Would go get the Book of Rules.”

I eyed her closely as she attempted to walk past me and get going. Inhaling in readiness to confront her, I held her arms back.

On the spot, her eyes bolted. I looked down to her lips which trembled softly.

“W-what are you-- do you need something else, Lady Ava?”

“That evil Rook…she’s threatening you, isn’t she?” I asked immediately.

“Milady w-what? I have no idea of what you’re talking about.”

Felicia responded, attempting to gently pull herself out of my grip. It was like she was currently battling with herself, bracing herself up.

Maybe she needed a snap to spill it.

I figured, thus, held her more boldly.

“Lies.”

I spat hastily, with a devious look of mischief with an ounce of care for her.

“I saw her slap you. What happened between you two?”

“N-nothing, I promise.” she stammered.

“Are you sure about that? Is she drinking from you or making your life miserable? I need to know, please…tell me!”

I pleaded, jamming my hands together.

“If you would talk to me, I can. I see this, you know. I see through you, Felicia.”

“You will never understand,” she suddenly voiced out.

A look of angst beheld her face and her eyes looked teary, once more, blood shot.

“What do you mean?”

“It’s nothing,” she answered.

“I need to know. I don’t want anyone else ending up like Tabitha.”

“Please…” I trailed out. “Tell me what’s going on, Felicia.”

“You don’t understand, Lady Ava!!”

She suddenly yelled, panting afterwards. Her breath heaved and it looked like she was having an anxiety attack.

“Breathe slowly. In and out.”

I calmed her down, with my both hands on her shoulders till she was okay. “Now tell me.”

“I-I c-can’t. It’s risky for us.” she explained.

“You can trust me. You can have faith that I won’t tell a soul, only if you want me to.”

I urged. Seemed like she completely relaxed, because next thing I knew, she actually began talking.

“It all starts with that legend. The one I told the girls of that day.”

“What about it?”

“The story about a sick woman, in need of help. It’s all true. That woman was my mother and Francesca is also her daughter, Lady Ava.”

I could swear I completely zoned out at her words.

Seemed like things were spiraling out of control, each second.

“You both are the twin sisters, h-how? Didn’t you say they both passed away and wasn’t that years ago?”

“Correct, I did.” she answered.

“If that’s true, how are you old and Francesca’s so young?”

“Please sit, My Knight.”

She let out, after giving a respectful bow. I let go of her shoulders, sitting. Following after me, she also sat on an opposite crooked chair.

Not that mine was something good either.

“You know you’re someone with integrity. You seem to bear something special. I am aware of it because of how far you’ve come in this short period of time.”

She started off, with an appraisal.

Was it weird that it didn’t matter right now? I needed her to go straight to the point, dammit.

“That’s why I’m telling you this. In hope that you save the girls.” she said. “And this perhaps leads me to my path.”

“I understand, Felicia.” I smiled politely, saying.

“Who’s the evil twin though?”

I was welcomed with a chuckle from her side.

“I believe from what you’ve seen so far in this castle, you know who that is.”

Couldn’t deny she was right.

I mean, it was indeed truly obvious.

“What’s the story then? The true story behind it all?” I asked again.

“Well, we came to this castle in disguise for the choosing. However, we had other intentions. As you know, our mother was terribly ill and she needed the mythical chest to get well.”

Chest?

Why did that sound terribly familiar?

“The powerful King Teta was in possession of it. We didn’t know this then. No matter how much we looked and tried, we found nothing.”

“To add to that, surviving the killings were no easy thing.”

“Must have been really tough.” I commented, with a saddened expression.

“It was…however, one day, we got a message from our village. We were too late. Our mother was longtime dead.”

She sighed, before continuing.

“It was no use staying in the castle anymore. Thus, we planned on running away and escaping. Francesca however, got too greedy from her prolonged stay in the castle.”

“She suddenly aspired to be the castle’s Princess so she would automatically be the Queen after Lady Archer.”

“Using her cunning tactics, she was able to convince her to drug Prince Caspian and send us both in to his chambers. They needed an heir so badly and would do anything to get him to mate anyone.”

Scratching her chin, she added.

“And then?”

“I refused to go with her. She got so upset, asking Cicilia who was also part of our team. Never knew what happened in that room.”

As she said those words, I felt a twinge of jealously wash past me. My wolf reacted angrily, but I calmed her down immediately.

“All I knew was they came out as immortal creatures. Tore the girls competing with them brutally, with an exception of Lydia because she was an extremely good warrior.”

“They attempted to turn me, but I declined after seeing that amount of evil. I clung to Lydia thereafter, avoiding my twin sister.”

“She was dead to me, for all I knew.”

….

I thought about all she had told me, as I walked through the corridors to the bathroom. Needed to use the toilet badly, out of anxiousness at everything I just came to know.

However, the thoughts were still shrouded in my head.

I recalled some parts she had told me previously.

“That scar? Why do you have those Felicia?”

“I tried returning to my village thereafter. But they tried to burn me out of anger that we both abandoned our mother.”

“Lydia saved me though. I wouldn’t say she was a good person but she had a good belief.”

Those words…

It made me wonder if I should feel guilty about the fight?

Something jeered me out of my thoughts though. I heard moans rippling from the walls of a stall. Next, I saw two hands caressing each other.

Directly ahead, was Tania and Satandra being intimate with each other.
