《We Aren't Different [ BoyxBoy+ ]》. Chapter 23 .

My eyelids feel super heavy as i open my eyes to a bright living room. They feel dry from last nights events... Embarrassing much.

I lay there for a few minutes, unmoving and tired as I let the silence of the room seep in through my bones, enjoying the peace. The couch i'm currently laying on allows me to sink into the cushions, I find it comforting.

I hear some quiet noises coming from the kitchen, although it disrupts the quiet, it only adds to the peace. It's soothing and I don't know why.

Aaron soon makes an entrance to the living room and sits on the other couch, holding a dark grey mug with some words on it that I can't see. He's wearing casual clothes and he has a bit more beard growing on his face than I remember. It suits him really well though.

He must've noticed I was awake even though he never once looked at me since coming into the room, "It's 1 in the afternoon, how was your sleep?" he took a sip of the liquid in his cup.

I shrugged, "good.. Why's it so quiet?" No one had come down the stairs and I couldn't hear anyone else in the house.

"They're all doing their things." He took another sip, "Some are working while others are running some errands"

I notice my phone sitting on the coffee table across from where I was laying and move to pick it up. The time read 1. I would say i'm surprised but it's not the first time this has happened.

Besides the time though, I had no notifications. I didn't exactly expect any but I guess it would've been nice to at least see something show up. Maybe even something from one of my games or youtube recommending a video. But nothing. I sighed and set my phone back down on the table.

Aaron was reading a book, still drinking whatever was in that cup. He was wearing glasses and everything about him almost seemed aesthetic. The way his face looked was just... so appealing.

We both just sat there for a little bit in a comfortable silence. For the first time since i've been home I feel really content.

Aaron suddenly spoke up, "Do you want to get a pet?"

It was extremely unexpected and the random question confused me a bit. Pet? Like a dog?

"what?"

"A pet. like a cat. I think it would benefit you."

I didn't know how to feel about this to be completely honest. I would love a cat, they're amazing creatures and deserve everything.

"Does anyone else here have a pet..?" I questioned not wanting to seem like he was being nice to only me I suppose.

"Oh yes, Brendon has a sugar glider and Lukas has a snake, they both stay in there respective rooms though."

I nod. I think getting a pet would be nice.. "Could.. could i maybe get a cat?" I asked. Anxiety scratching at the back of my mind from the thought that he might say no even though he just mentioned that it would help.

"Sure, we can go in an hour. Go get changed, we have to stop by the pet store to get some supplies."

I was shocked to say the least. We were really going to get a cat? Just like that? I'm not complaining but that was a really fast decision.

I promised to myself that I would care for this cat forever, I could already feel myself forming a bond with it and I didn't even know what it would look like.

A little bit later after I finished changing and getting ready to go out, Aaron brings Reed, who was working in his room, and I to the pet store.

I follow them around as they pick up necessary supplies such as a litter box and food. Once we arrive in the toy section they allow me to pick some stuff, I chose a bunch of adorable toys and got a maroon collar with a little bow and bell on it.

My mood had lifted significantly since I woke up, I was so excited to get a friend. I couldn't wait, my excitement was through the roof.

We finished buying all of the stuff, on the way out I got some treats as well. Once we were seated back in the car with all of the supplies in the trunk, we drove to the local adoption centre.

We entered the building and one of the volunteers showed us the cats, they were all looking for homes and after looking for a few and playing with some others, letting them smell me and petting them, I found a cat with fluffy bright orange and white hair. She was a younger cat, a kitten with grey eyes. The volunteer said she was the youngest of her litter who have all been adopted.

She looked up at me and tilted her head, letting out a small meow. I felt my heart clench, and immediately I knew that she was the one that I wanted to be my friend.

The whole time I was meeting all of the cats, I noticed Reed covered with furry animals. Some were crawling on his back and others were sitting in his lap. He seemed completely content with it though. I smiled as a clump of cat hair piled up in his lap. He was wearing a black hoodie by the way.

Aaron had to fill out some forms for the adoption but eventually he finished and we were able to bring her home. She seemed comfy in the carrier, which was stuffed with towels to make it less slippery on the hard plastic.

She let out small meows during the ride back. My hand was in the carrier to pet her which she gladly rubbed up against.

Once we arrived back at the house, Aaron and Reed brought the supplies upstairs into my room, the house was large and I didn't think she was big enough to get around that easy. So we'd ease her into the house as she grew while starting out in my room. Aaron agreed with me, so we set up her litter and food in my room.

Aaron and Reed both pet the cat and we all played with her in my room, she was adorable and I already felt my attachment to her. Reed held her and coddled her the most of all of us. I never expected him to use a baby voice on her but that's the only way he spoke to her, it made me giggle and Aaron smiled at it.

Some of the others arrived home while we were playing around with her and they joined in on playing around with her, everybody eventually got their turn and others left while some entered. I could feel some of their stares, knowing that they were thinking about what happened yesterday. I refused to think about it and keep my attention on the kitten in front of me though.

Eventually everyone left and the kitten yawned at the same time I did, she was obviously worn out from everyone playing with her and even though I slept half of the day already, tiredness seeped into my bones.

I crawled up into my bed, carrying the kitten with me and setting her down on the bed. She snuggled up right next to my head, her purring lulling me to sleep slowly.

I kissed her head and whispered to her,

"Goodnight, Tio"
