Chapter 31: We Need An Inside Woman
Dean’s POV
Somehow, despite years of being through stressful, hard situations and speaking to crowds of thousands at a time, I was nervous. I felt as if I was a teenager, or even a kid, again. It felt awful.
Yet, it told me that what I felt for Sebastian wasn’t just in my head. I was making the right choice. And I could feel it.
I had to push my nerves back though when I had to start teaching that day. Class after class went by and I was able to act as if there was nothing going on, nothing making my heart race and palms sweat more than usual that day.
But when Sebastian’s period started to make their way in, I couldn’t help but glue my eyes to the doorway and watch for him.
Students walked in, and after the first 15 passed, I realized that I shouldn’t keep staring at the door until he came. So, I forced myself to get busy with papers on my desk and rewriting anything on the whiteboard.
My chest warmed and I quickly remembered that it was because Sebastian was in the room. I finished what I was writing on the board and as subtly as possible, turned around and found Sebastian.
In less than a second, his eyes met my own and I felt my heart warm further. It was the mate bond encouraging us to be close. His eyes fluttered beautifully at the feeling before they opened and he sent me a piercing glare.
Literally. It sent a shot of pain through my chest but I was able to keep the discomfort off of my face. I sent him a small smile but he was quick to ignore it and look away from me. Sighing, I turned away from him and tried to look busy.
Finally, the bell rang and class started. Having Sebastian sitting there, listening to everything I said, made it harder for me to talk naturally and make jokes.
I hoped that none of my students noticed that I wasn’t smiling as much or making as many jokes as usual, but I did try to not let what was happening to me affect my teaching.

I finished with the lesson and assigned them the same work that I had assigned all of my previous periods. I checked the time and saw that we had a few more minutes so I made a quick announcement.
“Also, I won’t be taking any questions after class today. If any of you do have questions, you can ask me after class tomorrow or you can email me.” I pointed towards where I had written my email on the whiteboard before class had started. “I’m on my computer for hours in the evening so as long as you send me one before 7:30 or so I should be able to get back to you.”
With my announcement, the students filtered out of my class even faster than usual, but I had my eye out for one person.
Well, more like two. My eyes continued to find Sebastian even as he left the classroom. But once he was gone, I focused once again on the person I had wanted to speak to in the first place.
“Samantha!” I called, my eyes focused on the shorter girl. She turned, startled when she heard her name. “Would you come here for a moment.”
Samantha narrowed her eyes slightly but listened and slowly came up to me. I tried to give her a warm smile but it was met with a grimace on her part.
“You called?” She asked, her voice polite but indifferent. I nodded, a hint of nerves coming to me again when I remembered what I would have to ask her.
“Yes, I did. Umm, I wanted to ask for a favour.” I told her hesitantly. Samantha raised a single questioning eyebrow at my words.
“What kind of favour?” She questioned, suspicious of what I wanted from her.
“I need you to get Sebastian to meet me somewhere Friday night.” I said lowly, still afraid that someone might be listening. Without missing a beat, Samantha scoffed loudly and went to walk away. “Wait!”
Samantha turned back around, but now she looked upset and angry.
“I’m Sebastian’s friend in case you forgot. He told me everything that you did and honestly, I’m not happy.” Samantha told me. At that moment, I realized that when she spoke to me, she didn’t see me as a famous immortal. All she saw was a guy who hurt her friend, and for that, she was pissed. “If you want to get him back or get him in your bed, then you are doing it without my help. You need to put in some effort. Honestly, I’m surprised that you even asked.”

Samantha went to walk away again and in panic, I blurted out my thoughts.
“Sebastian is way too upset with me for him to go on his own. I probably wouldn't even be able to get him to talk to me out of class, so he would never agree to go to the waterfall.” I told her before wincing. “I wasn’t supposed to say that.”
Samantha stopped before turning back to me, now looking intrigued.
“The waterfall? Is that how you planned to make up with him? Get him to his favourite place on campus?”
I shrugged, a small blush and tiny smile coming onto my face.
“I didn’t know that it was his favourite place, but it was where we had our entire relationship. I want to make things right between us, and I know that if I had to choose a place to mark as ‘ours’, that would be it.” I walked up to Samantha and placed my hands on her shoulders. “Please. I just need you to get him there. After that, I will do everything I can to get him to forgive me. If he doesn’t, then he will have my full agreement to his mate rejection.”
Samantha’s eyes widened and for a moment I worried that she didn’t know of the fact that we were soulmates.
“You are really serious, aren’t you?” Samantha looked at me with wide eyes as she spoke. I nodded to agree and with that, the shorter girl nodded and sighed. “Alright, what did you have in mind in terms of wooing.”
I took my hands off of her shoulders and after pausing for a moment. I explained.
“Well, my plan is pretty simple. You see . . . ” I carefully explained to Samantha what was going on and why I chose to do what I did. She listened attentively and when I finished, already had a question.
“Are you sure that you will have enough for the entire thing?” She asked with a small frown. Although she tried to seem distant because she didn’t completely trust me yet, her concern and excitement were too obvious for me to ignore.
“Yes, I will. I have a friend who can help me with all of that.” I said, assuring her of my plans. “I got everything figured out.”
“And all you need is for Sebastian to show up.” Samantha added, half muttering to herself at the end. “I’ll do it. Sebastian is happier with you than without and I want him to be happy.”
“Thank you.” I smiled.
“This isn’t for you.” She shot back, slapping away my appreciation without taking a breath. “I’ll get him there, don’t you doubt it.”
Samantha turned to leave, and I didn’t try to stop her. When she was only a few steps away from the door, she stopped and turned back around.
“By the way, Dr. McCain. My name is Samantha, but just call me Sam. If you do get Sebastian to forgive you, I don’t want you continually spitting the stiff version of my name around my friends. They’ll never stop bringing it up if you do.”
Hearing her small peace offering, I smiled widely and nodded.
“Sure, Sam.” I told her. With a nod, Saman- Sam turned away again and left my classroom. If everything worked out and Sam was successful in getting Sebastian to our spot, I would have the chance to finally tell Sebastian how I really feel about him.
And, possibly, make Sebastian mine.
