I stood up and held the green scale in my hand. "It's close." I smirked and started jogging in the direction that the dragon should be. "I got you now.." 'Wait..' I stopped myself. I shook my head and continued the same path, just slower. 'I mean.. What if dragons aren't that bad.' I hit my head with the back of my palm and continued walking. 'The Night Fury tried to kill me.' I crouched down and inspected some very fresh tracks. 'But only because my mother probably killed it's mother.' I sighed and picked up my bola. 'Hell, I would hate a person too if they killed my mother.' I heard a bush move so I swiftly turned around and threw the bola. I stood up tall, wondering if I hit a dragon or Hiccup again. I heard a dragon roar. "I got you now.." I ran up to it but it was gone, a torn up bola on the ground. "What.. Where did it-" I heard a growl behind me. I swished my sword around hitting the beast and it started circling me. I just had to watch it carefully. It suddenly fired at me and I barely managed to put up my shield. Which was now not a shield so I threw it to the ground. I ran up to it and hit it again with my sword but it jumped over me.
"It's on, dragon..." I ran after it. It ran through the forest way faster than me. It had way biggeer strides. But I ran until I lost my breath. I jumped over holes, rocks, roots and bushes just so I could get this dragon. But at last I lost track of it. My knees gave out and I caught myself on a tree. My weapons scattered all over the ground, leaving me defenseless. I leaned onto it and slowly slid down. "I need this dragon... I already told father..."
I put my bent knees against my chest and held them close. "He'll disown me if I don't bring the dragon or dragon head.. Or atleast something!" I threw my head on my knees and turned into a ball. "I'm the strongest viking... Totally the strongest and bestest warrior... my father needs me to be." Suddenly I let out a few sniffles. "No.. I'm.. I am not going to cry.." I snorted. "I am Y/n Carefree L/n the Third!..." I sobbed again. "I do- don't.. cry..." I sniffled and chuckled. "I'm talking to myself now. Hah..ha..." I gave out, all of the pressure and confusion giving in. I sobbed my heart out for atleast an hour. I let everything out. 'My royal duty, my father's expectations, the upcoming war and now... Dragons being.. good?'

I sighed and took a few deep breaths to try and calm myself down. "I'm seriously going insane.." I felt my hair flow back slightly from the breeze. A warm breeze. "..Oh great.." I slowly looked up and saw the beast. I was so intrigued by it. It was just staring at me. Very closely. It must've noticed my red eyes from all of the crying. Then I realised that it is a dragon and that I should probably do something if I want to stay alive. 'All my weapons are scattered just a bit too far away.. Damn you Thor!' I stared at it, fear in my eyes. "Hey, dragon..." It took a step closer. "No, no, no.. No need for that." I quickly pressed myself against the tree. I started shaking in fear. 'Is this how I die? I don't want to go like this..!' I tried to inch even further away but the tree pressing against my back was a pretty obvious sign that it was over. It took even one more step.
And then... it sat down. In front of me. It sat there, relaxed, while I continued to tremble in fear. I couldn't tell you how long I sat there, not moving an inch. Just frozen in fear. I heard footsteps and so did the Scuttleclaw. It's head perked up and so did mine. The footsteps got even closer and then they just stopped. I glanced at the beast in front of me. It seemed weary. It stood up and started sniffing around, trying to figure out who was sneaking about.
That's when I got a good look at the beast. A tall creature with a base green colour and the details of red and blue. It's eyes a glowing yellow and the stars reflected in them so well. It was mesmerising. The creature's wings were enormous, bigger than any nadder's I've ever seen and it's tail was.. "Injured.." As it continued sniffing around I slowly started getting up. Now mind you, I am tall. Way taller than Hiccup. And this creature is just... Enormous compared to me. I walk over to its tail as slowly as possible.
"Oh my Thor... I really got your tail, didn't I.." Now that I could see the wound from up close, I noticed that it was a long and clean cut. No wonder the dragon couldn't fly, the cut is extremely deep. I lifted my hand and lightly touched the tail. The spikes were like of a Zipplebacks.. I could feel eyes on me. I slowly turned my head to look at the Scuttleclaw's eyes. We glared at eachother for a few seconds until we looked towards the rustling bushes again. I retreated my hand to my side and started slowly walking to the bush. I only made a few steps when the Scuttleclaw put it's wing in front of me. It was on edge and so was I. 'Why am I not running away? I have no idea!'

It growled and sneared at the bush. Then, it fired. "AH!" I quickly ran up to the flaming and screaming bush, pushing the wing away and trying my best to keep quiet. I jumped in and tackled whoever it was that was watching us. Brown messy hair... scrawny...not fighting back at all... 'God damnit..' "Hiccup." He gave me a nervous smile. "..Hey." I sighed and stood up slowly. "Come on." I took his hand and pulled him up. He started whispering to me. "What are you doing here..?" I facepalmed. "Something crazy.. don't worry about it. What are you doing here?" He scratched his neck and his talking got a little louder. "No-nothing! Ha..hah.." I stood up straight and brushed myself off. 'How in the world is he still alive.'
"What was that?" I turned to the terrified Hiccup and realised that the Scuttleclaw was growling again. "Uh.. stay back Hiccup. And follow my lead." I slowly but nervously walked out of the bush. "..what are we doing..?!" "Shush." I slowly raised my arms in front of the growling beast. "Hey fella.. hey.." It immidiately calmed down but continued it's glare at the bush. I gestured Hiccup to come out and he did as I said. The dragon growled louder and got ready to kill Hiccup. I panicked and jumped in front of him. "Wait! Wait.." It awaited for my words. 'It speaks Berkian..? Let's hope so..' "This is Hiccup, my friend." I slowly aproached the dragon. "You seemed to trust me, so.. please, trust him too." I was now almost a foot away. So close. "It's okay.." It seemed to calm down after all.
I slowly put out my hand and waited how the dragon would react. 'Hopefully it's not hungry after all the running...' It was hesitant but slowly it nuzzled it's head into my hand, it's eyes closed. Unlike my eyes which were wide open in surprise. "..woah.." I heard a gasp behind me, probably from Hiccup. The dragon opened it's eyes, flapped it's wings and jumped over us, dissapearing in the dark. I was once again frozen in place. "How.. How did you d-do that?" Hiccup excitedly ran up to me, but I no longer payed any attention to him. 'Did I just.. pet a dragon..?' I took a shaky breath and walked back to my weapons.
"H-hey.. where are you going, Y/n?" I set my sword in my weapon belt. "Home, I.. I think I need sleep." I started walking away but of course he followed me. "Look, what you did just now.. Wow!" I growled myself and glared into the distance. "Do you even realise how amazing it was?" He jumped in front of me and giggled. "I have to tell you what happened to me today... it was almost more amazing than that!" I pushed him aside and continued walking. "You can tell me tomorrow.. I just need some time alone." He sighed and apologised. "Right... sorry." I shook my head and walked away from him.
I ran up the stairs to my room and threw all of my weapons to the ground. "What was that?!" I jumped onto the bed, carefull not to hurt the egg. I put it beside me an sat up. "Why would something like that happen... It's..it's.." I looked at the beautifull egg that was given to me by the most amazing father that I have ever met, a dragon I knew. It lived near our kingdom. I pet it. "What is happening to me.." I looked at the fireplace and brought the egg to my arms. I lit the torch and put the egg close to it again. I crouched next to it and stared at it. "I will protect you." I pat it one last time before going to bed. As I was falling asleep I watched the night sky, stars and the moon. 'I wonder what will happen to the Scuttleclaw...' I turned to lay on my back. 'I shouldn't call it a Scuttleclaw anymore... head similar to a Nadders... spikes like from a Zipplebacks back... Zipp.' I smiled to myself and took a deep breath. Finally deciding to fall asleep.

The Last Marshal
Weird West Fantasy Noir Once the Republic Marshals brought order to the chaotic lands along the Frontier, facing dangers both human and supernatural with ancient wisdom and a six-gun —but that was a long time ago. Destroyed by conspiracy and betrayal, all that remains of that secretive order is one nameless man on a trek though the West seeking revenge on the woman he blames for the Marshals' fall and his disgrace. When a visitor from our world joins him on his journey, they together must confront the horrors of a strange land, the mysteries of the past and the real meaning of their quest for justice. The world of Tellus is what 19th Century Earth would have looked like if the stories of Poe, Ambrose Bierce, Lovecraft and William Hope Hodgeson were real. History in this world moves slower. The old faiths persist and civilization never conquered the dark corners of the map, at least not without being inextricably changed. Technology and culture takes a little longer to evolve in this land, as people here tend to spend more time pursuing their elaborate revenge plots or trying to avoid being the next sacrifice to the Outer Gods rather than advancing science or statecraft. Imagine Cormac McCarthy by way of Edgar Rice Burroughs, though a little less testosterone-drenched than that description would imply. Three caveats: First, there are deep mysteries here, including how such a world came to be and who controls it. Second, this world is not wholly unconnected from our own. There is a historical point of divergence, but in the distant past. To paraphrase Twain: history in this world is not a repeat of our own, but it does often rhyme. And finally, this is not a setting that lends itself to happy endings.
