《httyd 1 x reader》Ch. 4 Back then

I woke up to the sound of birds chirping. I slowly opened my eyes, it was a bright morning I suppose. I rubbed my eyes and got up. I was a bit tired, considering that I didn't get much sleep thanks to last night. I started by picking up the egg and hiding it back in my bed. I yawned and pat the egg, then covered it with a blanket.
"Hey Hiccup." He stared at me wide eyes and a slight blush.. 'Blush, okay okay..' "..go-good morning Y/n! Why are you.. here?" He gestured to himself and I chuckled and pushed him along. "Come on, we have more dragon training." He seemed nervous. "And I feel a little bad for just leaving yesterday." My hand slowly left his back and I stopped smiling as a few vikings walked by. Right as they were out of sight I sighed. But then he grabbed my hand and it was him dragging me, yay.
"Deadly Nadder."
We were in a maze like structure that has been built in the arena. A Nadder let loose. I was on my own, running around, trying not to engage with the dragon. "Today is all about attack!" I could hear Gobber on the outside of the arena. "Nadders are quick and light on their feet." I felt someone run into me. I looked down at the fallen boy. "Hey." He chuckled awkwardly and I quickly helped him up. "Again." I smirked at him slightly but immidietly went into fight mode once more. "Your job is to be quicker and lighter." I started running again. "Look for it's blind spot, every dragon has one." Hiccup's footsteps followed behind me. "Find it, hide in it and strike!" We passed the twins and the dragon as we were running. The twins clearly bickering about something again.
"Blind spot, yes. Deaf spot? Not so much." We joined Snotlout and Astrid as we were running, too. Astrid Snotlout and I hid behind a wall while I noticed that Hiccup was missing. "Hey- Hey uh, so how would one sneak up on a Night Fury?" Gobber replied. "No-one's ever met one and lived to tell the tale, now get in there!" We saw Hiccup back up towards us. "I know, I know.. but hypothetically.."
Astrid whisper-shouted at him. "Hiccup, get down!" We all gestured for him to do so and he thankfully listened. The Nadder was clearly right around the corner as we could hear it's loud growling. Astrid waited for the right opportunity, took a deep breath and rolled to the other side. Snotlout after her, then me and then Hiccup. Who, of course, had to fall back onto his shield. The Nadder noticed right away and jumped at him. I growled myself and hit the Nadder with my shield. "Come and get me, dragon."

I started running in the same direction. Away. The Nadder flew up onto the maze walls and was frustatingly looking for me. It roared a few times. A pretty high pitched roar, but still terrifying. Of course Hiccup stopped to ask Gobber more questions. I continued running until all of the walls collapsed and I saw Astrid fall onto Hiccup as she jumped off of a wall. "Hiccup!!" Hiccup was now pinned under Astrid. "Ohh.. love on the battlefield." The twins snickered to themselves. But both me and Astrid quickly realised that the Nadder was inching closer. I quickly put my shield on my sword and ran up to the beast.
"Agh!" I yelled out and hit it, discouriging it from fighting any longer. It whimpered as it walked away. "Well done, Y/n." Astrid walked up to me and she thanked me quickly but then turned back to Hiccup with a glare. "Is this some kind of a joke to you?" Hiccup unwrapped himself from the fetal position. "Our parents' war is about to become ours." She pointed her axe at him. "Figure out which side you're on."
"I saw the look on his face, I was delicious." I ran up the stairs and right away apologised. "I know, I'm late." Gobber laughed and shook his head. "You didn't have to come Y/n, but since you're here." He threw a piece of chicken at me and I caught it. "Thanks." I looked around and saw Hiccup sitting on the bench right next to me, holding a fish on a stick. The others were there too. Snotlout, Astrid, Fishlegs, Ruffnut and Tuffnut and obviously, Gobber.
"Right, as I was saying. He must've passed the word because it wasn't a month before another one of them took my leg!" He gestured to his leg. "Isn't it weird to think your hand was inside a dragon? Like if your mind was still in control of it, you could have killed the dragon from inside by crushing it's heart or something.." "What the.." I scrunched my face in disgust. "Hey, wanna sit?" I glanced down at Hiccup and shook my head. "No, I'm fine.." "I swear, I'm so angry right now. I'll avenge your beautiful hand and your beautiful foot! I'll chop off the legs of every dragon I fight, with my face." I decided to sit next to Hiccup, which was on the ground but I didn't mind. Gobber grunted. "No, it's the wings and the tail you really want. If it can't fly, it can't get away. A downed dragon is a dead dragon... Don't you know, Y/n?"

I smiled shepishly and nodded. "I killed my first dragon like that." I could feel Hiccups eyes on me. "Really?" I hummed in aggreement and stood up. "It was dramatic and dangerous.." Snotlout smirked. "Oh really! What dragon was it... A Groncle?" Everyone laughed but I put my serious face on. "It was a Whispering Death." Everyone except for Snotlout and the twins was silent. They quieted down as soon as they realised everyone else was quiet. "Special ability to spin the teeth they have in their mouth... able to drill through anything that isn't metal. They sneak up on their prey and then they squeeze them to death." I decided to cut Fishlegs off as everyone was disgusted again. "Our kingdom was infested with them for a while and so one day, they decided to attack."
"It was at night and my father was talking buisness with a few people. I remember that they attacked while I was on my way to his meeting room with my mom. She gave me her sword and told me to go and protect him and so I ran to help him." Astrid cut me off. "And how old were you anyway?" I sighed and thought back. "Just as I turned fifteen." A few of my friends gasped but I decided to continue. "A Death had already managed to get inside and it was attacking my father. He didn't have any weapons so he couldn't protect himself. I quickly charged at the beast and cut it's tail off!" I could see they were impressed, except for Hiccup. "They rely on their tail for speed and agility so I had an advantage. It decided to dig and sneak up on us so while it was underground I took father's hand and we tried to escape... But it was too late." I felt a tug on my sleeve. "I had.. to.. what?"
"Why were there no guards..?" I frowned at Hiccup's comment and continued. "Unimportant. As I was saying, I had to fight the beast head on so as it charged at us I sliced it across it's face. Now it couldn't escape. I had father distract the dragon while I sliced it's wings enough so it couldn't fly and then I had the honour of striking the final blow. The importance of knowing a dragon's abilities is high. It might not be able to attack you anymore thanks to your attacks. It is incredibly important to know a dragons weakness."
Gobber pat me on the back and nodded. "A good lesson, Y/n." He yawned and stood up. "Alright, I'm off to bed. You should be too." I felt someone bump into me as Gobber continued talking about the training. "Tomorrow we get to the big boys, slowly but surely making our way up to the Monstrous Nightmare." I watched Hiccup as he scurried off to somewhere. "Hm.." I hummed in thought and looked back to the group. "But who'll win the honor of killing it?" I sighed and picked up Hiccup's fish and sat down. 'What is he up to..?' I decided that it was unimportant and continued listening to the rest of the group.
"It's gonna be me. It's my destiny, see?" Tuffnut lifted his shirt and I almost gagged in disgust. I looked away again and stood up. "I'll be going too." I heard Tuffnut huff. "Interrupting me..." He started mumbling and I shrugged. "Goodnight." I only took a few steps before I heard a dragon roar. And I clearly wasn't the only one, hearing the gasps of the other kids. "What was that..?" Gobber stood up and cracked his knuckles.
"Dragons-" I quickly ran back up and put a hand in front of him. "Don't worry. It's only one dragon." He tilted his head. "What do you mean, 'It's only one?'" I gave Snotlout a glare. "It's my kill, got it?" He shrieked in fear at my harshness and replied. "Got it." Gobber hummed. "Alright, just make sure it doesn't attack the houses or livestock." He walked off.
"Oh don't you worry. It won't."
