《httyd 1 x reader》Ch. 3 The Night Fury

I was outside, looking over what I found the other day. Clues, precisely. Although now I had a rogue Night Fury to protect the beast. My parents have dealt with a Night Fury before. My mother killed it. My shield is made with it's scales and skin. I don't use that shield since I find that quite morbid but I do have it.
"Y/n!" I looked up at the boy. "Hey Hiccup. What do you need?" I looked back down onto my notes. He laughed awkwardly and sat down next to me. "Wanna help me... Find the Night Fury?" I glanced up at him, thinking that he's joking. My smirk drops. "You're serious." "Yeah..."
I dropped my pen and stood up in front of him. I strongly held his shoulders. "I know that the beast spared you, but there is no telling that it will do that again." I told him, sternly. He sighed and tried to look away but was a little too scared of me to do so. "You don't know that." He glared at me. My eyes widened and I closed my eyes. "You are insane Hiccup." He pushed my arms off and I heard him walk off. "Wait.. Where are you going?!" He didn't stop. "If you won't help, I'll do it alone." 'He is actually insane.' I picked up my swords and ran up next to him. He glanced up at me as we walked. "Thanks.." I sighed and smiled at him too. "I would never leave you." I quickly looked away. "To die on your own, I mean."
We got to the location of where the Night Fury landed. It was way bigger than I thought it would be. A fallen tree and a large trail all the way to a cut up bola. "Woah... This is.." I looked around and noticed the dragon's scales. "Incredible." I picked up one of the scales. "I can track it down. Come on." I gestured for him to follow me and he did.
"Here." I stopped and looked around. Hiccup stood next to me. "I don't see anything." I pointed towards a broken branch on the ground. "That, look closer." He gave me a confused look but went over anyway. He crouched down and picked it up. "Oh..!" I smiled at him and pat him on the back. "See, it's close." He handed me the dragon scale and I looked at it. Pitch black. 'Extraordinary camouflage.' I threw it on the ground and walked forward.

"Here." We walked down into a tiny tunnel that led to a open valley. I jumped down a rock and held out my hand for Hiccup to hold. He held it and jumped down. He walked in front of me and kneeled down near the edge. I walked right next to him and kneeled too. "That's gorgeous.." He chuckled. A few birds flew by and onto a giant tree. The whole valley was majestic, a lake in the middle and a giant tree with its roots practically crawling inside. "This was stupid.." He looked down but quickly but softly pushed me aside. He found more scales.
"AH!" Both Hiccup and I jumped back as the beast tried to fly out. It scrambled the walls but fell down nonetheless. Hiccup quickly stood up and began to watch the dragon. I slowly followed him. He jumped to a lower rock from where he'd have bigger view and put out his hand for me. I hesitantly took it and followed him. The dragon tried to fly out again but it couldn't, so, it fell down. And again. I heard Hiccup gasp and he fumbled with a notebook that he had. He quickly started sketching the beast. 'This is... so wrong..' And again. 'Poor beast...' The dragon decided to give up escaping. "Why don't you just, fly away?" I looked at Hiccup and then back at the dragon. "The tail, Hiccup." It blasted the ground, probably out of frustration. I flinched back a little. Hiccup erased the tail from his sketch. We both looked back at the devil. It tried to fly away one last time, before trying to catch some fish. When it failed, it shook it's head and layed down in the same place. Hiccup sighed.
I suddenly heard his pencil falling. 'Oh no..!' We both tried to grab it but it was too late. I softly pulled on his arm but he was frozen in place. I noticed that the beast was staring at us. Mostly Hiccup. Hiccup tilted his head and so did the beast. "..what the.." It heard me and suddenly shot a plasma blast at us. I quickly grabbed Hiccup and got us out of there.
"I told you, that was insane!" He grunted. "You clearly scared it!" I turned towards him. "I noticed that, Hiccup! But it scared me too." I looked away. "Look Hiccup, it probably knows me." He tilted his head. I sighed and glared at him. "My mother killed the first and last Night Fury I've ever seen. It was bigger and stronger than any drgaon I've ever seen. Even stronger than this Night Fury." Hiccup kept silent and so did I. "Look, whatever it is that you are gonna do next, I can't help you." I walked off to my house. "You're on your own."

I heard a knock on the door so I ran up to it and opened it with a bored face. "Hey Y/n, I-" "Nope." I closed it. "Look, I just.. Please let me in?" I sighed and growled to myself. I opened the door and let him in, right as he walked inside I shut it closed. "What Hiccup." He was fiddling with his fingers. "I'm sorry." I tilted my head and crossed my arms. "For what exactly?" "I.." I stood up tall. "Hiccup." "I don't know! I just don't want to do it alone. And you clearly loved the dragon.. Until it tried to kill us." I shook my head and turned away, sitting down onto a chair. "Until it tried to kill me." I leaned onto the table. "It remembers me, which means my mother killed it's mother." Hiccup sat down in front of me. "Not the best start to a friendship if you ask me."
Hiccup and I have been talking for a while until it came time to eat dinner. It was a stormy night, so the rain was pouring and the thunder could be heard too. I kept telling Hiccup to hurry up but of course, he didn't listen. I opened the big doors for him and then I walked in after him. I closed them and tried to dry out my hair. "Ugh" I gave an annoyed grunt and followed Hiccup. "I miss timed my somersault dive. It was sloppy. It threw off my reverse tumble." I followed Hiccup to a table. "Yeah, we noticed." "No, no.. You were great, that was so ." I cringed at Snotlout's "flirting" and continued towards the table. "She's right. You have to be tough on yourselves." Hiccup picked up his food and I picked up mine. We walked around the table with the entire group.
"Where did Hiccup go wrong?" Ruffnut started the bad mouthing. "He showed up." "He didn't get eaten." Hiccup sat down at another table so I sat down next to him. Ignoring Snotlout's pathetic invite to his lap. "He's never where he should be." "Thank you Astrid." Gobber turned to me. "And Y/n?" I stole Hiccup's drink and took a sip. Everyone was quiet so I spoke up. "I held back." Hiccup glared at me making me smirk. I gave him back his drink and turned back to Gobber. "You need to live and breath this stuff. The Dragon Manual." He threw the book on the other table. "Everything we know, about every dragon we know of." He looked up as we all listened to the thunder. "Ah, no attacks tonight." He started walking away. "Study up."
The wins suddenly got really offended. "Wait, you mean read?" "While we're still alive?" Snotlout continued the useless rant. "Why read words when you can just kill the stuff the words tell you stuff about?" He hit the table in the process. Fishlegs got really excited. "Oh! I've read it like seven times. There's this water dragon that sprays boiling water at your face. And there's this other one... That-That burries it's-" Tuffnut shushed him. "Yeah. That sounds great. There was a chance I was gonna read that.." "But now.." Snotlout got up and started walking away, the twins and Fishlegs joined him. "You guys read. I'll go kill stuff." Hiccup got up and walked over to the book, right next to Astrid. "So I guess we'll share?" She pushed the book to him. "Read it." And she got up and started leaving too. "Uh, all-all mine then. Wow. So, ok-okay, I'll-I'll see you uh.. tomorrow.."
He sighed and looked down. I got up and walked over to him. I pat him on the back. "It'll be alright." I started walking away. "A-and where are you going..?" I could hear the disappointment in his voice. "I got work to do tomorrow. And besides I've already read it like a hundred times." I heard him groan but he didn't say anything. So I walked out.
