《httyd 1 x reader》Ch. 2 Dragon Training

"You saw what?" I crossed my legs as I conversed with my dad. "It was like a nadder.... But.. Not a nadder.. I don't recall any dragons like it. It was green, and red and a little blue... and definitely a little smaller than a nadder.." He sat in front of me. "And the wings and the tail were definitely bigger than a nadders." He continued to glare at me. "And it's still on the island?" I nodded and sat up straight. "I struck its tail and it ran off. Might've broken it." He nodded, clearly satisfied. "I suspect that what you've caught is a Scuttleclaw. Quite a rare specimen too. They are usually small and weak, with small wings and a short tail." I smirked and stood up. "Then I shall find it."
I've been walking around the forest for ages. A sword and a bola in my hands. I slowed down my pace, frustrated that I couldn't find the beast. "Uagh!" I threw the sword off to somewhere. "A flightless dragon couldn't have gone far!" I went off to retrieve the sword. "But I, Y/n Carefree L/n The Third, cannot find it on an island!" I looked down, to pick up the sword, but it was gone. I suddenly heard some rustling somewhere so I readied my bola and started looking around, glaring at everything. I heard the bush rustle so I threw the bola.
"Ha! Yes!" I ran up the the bush and walked through it. "Yes, finally! I can't believe this dragon took this... long to find." I deadpanned. "Hiccup. What a way to reunite." I quickly got to untangling him. "Hey.. Who are you?" I gasped and finally managed to get back the bola, undamaged. "I'm gonna pretend I didn't hear you just say that." I put out my hand for him to grab. "Y/n." He grabbed my hand and I pulled him up, and before I could even brush myself off he pulled me in a hug. "You're... you're here!"
I pulled away and glared at him smirking. "Yes yes.. But I've got work to do." I noticed that he had my sword so I snatched it from him and started walking away. "Uhh actually you might want to go this way." He ran up to me and blocked my way, pointing in the direction I arrived from. I tilted my head. ".. And why is that?" He started blabbering on about nothing being the way that I want to go. I had quite enough of his talk so I pushed him aside. "Yeah right.. You're a bad liar Hiccup, always have been." I was walking towards something that Hiccup didn't want me to find. 'I wonder what that is.' I snorted. 'Maybe a food stash.' Hiccup started walking next to me.
"Look, you really don't want to go this way. Trust me." I glared at him, but didn't stop walking. "Hiccup, whatever it is that you are hiding." I looked in front of me again. "I'm sure it's nothing..." I jumped over some fallen branches that were broken off. ".. Something was here, be on alert. Maybe the beast finally decided to show itself." I heard Hiccup gulp. "What are you talking about..? What beast, there's no beast.." I turned to him and deadpan. "A Scuttleclaw, and a big one too." I noticed a fallen broken tree so I cut through some bushes. I felt Hiccup pull me back. "Okay wait! Wait, wait... I'll tell you but you can't tell anyone!" I stop before I get through the bush. I sigh and turn towards him. "Okay Hiccup. Fine. But quickly please."

I sat down on some rock and I waited for Hiccup to start talking. He took a deep breath. "So... today, during the attack I hit a Night Fury. It fell down right here." My eyes were wide. I jumped up and held his shoulders. "Where is it." I asked or well... More of an order really. Hiccup looked scared for some reason. "Well you see it was down and I.. I... It's not here anymore." My eyes widened even more. ".. Did you let it go?" He clearly looked nervous. He gulped and looked up at me. "Maybe." I let out a shaky breath. "Look I'm sorry I just couldn't-" I put my hand up and he stopped talking. "Couldn't or wouldn't." It was quiet. For a few seconds there was nothing but my shaky breathing. "I.. Wouldn't.. And it spared my life.... I thought I was done for.." I took one final deep breath and stood up straight. "Okay. I won't tell anyone." I stood up and started walking off. "oh." As I was walking away, Hiccup shouted one last thing. "Thank you!" I chuckled. 'He's the craziest viking, ever.'
I finally got home and had to bring the news to my father. He's what we'd consider a king. An egotistical king but still a king, which makes me royal. There's a lot of expectations that he has for me. "Dad, I'm back.." He stood up and walked over, clearly seeing that I had no dragon head with me. "..." He stood in place with his arms crossed, tapping his foot against the floor.
"I'll get it next time, I promise! I found some clues. I'll find it dad." He sighed and shook his head. "You'll be joining the young vikings in training." He sat on his chair. "What, why wou-" "We believe they could learn a thing or two from you." I stood up straight and apologised. "Of course.... Goodnight." I ran up the stairs and jumped on my bed, next to the egg. I uncovered it and held it again. I got up and walked over to the heat source of my room. A big torch. I carefully set the dragon egg next to it. "Goodnight little guy." I pet it again and walked towards my bed.
The egg was a colourful thing. Beautifully covered in stripes of four colours. The most of the egg was all sorts of shades of brown and then the smaller amount of a soft pinkish red, a light baby blue and a pastel green. Trully one of a kind.
I woke up early, hidden the egg again, grabbed my swords and ran towards the training grounds. Gobber and the rest of the group were waiting for me. "I'm not late, you guys were just early." I ran towards the front of the group, both my swords ready. It was taking place in a giant arena. "I'm glad you could make it, Y/n." Gobber slid the door up and let us all inside. "Welcome to dragon training!" We started walking in, the rest of the teens were admiring the arena. "No turning back." Said Astrid, and she is right. Once you start your training, you can't turn back. It's either live or die.

"I hope I get some serious burns." I scowled at Tuff. "I'm hoping for some mauling, like on my shoulder or lower back." I glared at Ruffnut too. "Yeah, it's only fun if you get a scar out of it." Even Astrid added to the conversation. "Yeah no kidding, right?" We all turned towards the voice. "Pain. Love it." It was Hiccup with an axe from his father, I'm guessing. "Oh, great. Who let him in?"
Gobber stood next to Hiccup as he ushered us to form a line. "Let's get started! The recruit who does best will win the honor of killing their first dragon in front of the entire village." Snotlout snorted. "Hiccup already killed a Night Fury, so does that disqualify him?" The guys and Ruffnut laughed at him. We formed in a line. I stood next to Fishlegs and Hiccup stood on my right. "Before we start. Y/n has already killed a dragon before. So whoever is best out of you lot, will have to go through them." I stood tall with my swords at a ready. I swore I could hear both Hiccup and Fishlegs whimper. "Right. Behind these doors are just a few of the many species you will learn to fight!" Gobber slowly walked from cage to cage. The doors were closed but he remembered where and which dragons were in there.
"The Deadly Nadder!" "Speed 8, armor 19." I gave Fishlegs an annoyed look.
"The Hideous Zippleback." "Plus 11 stealth. Times 2."
"The Monstrous Nightmare." "Firepower 15."
"The Terrible Terror." "Attack 8, venom 12." Gobber finally lashed out. "Can you stop that!?" I chuckled quietly, although Fishlegs still gave me a little glare.
"And the Groncle." Gobber put his hand on the lever that opens the cage. "Jaw strength 8." Fishlegs whispered to me and Hiccup. "Whoa.. Whoa!" Snotlout stepped forward. "Aren't you gonna teach us first?" Clearly, Snotlout is afraid. Fair. Gobber smirked. "I believe in learning on the job." He let the cage open and a Groncle flew out. I immediately ran to the shields, I stood by it ready to take it.
"Today is about survival. If you get blasted..." The dragon flew into a wall and ate some rocks. "... you're dead! Quick, what's the first thing you're going to need?" "A doctor?" I snorted and put down one of my swords. "Plus 5 speed?" I put on the shield and picked the sword back up. "A shield." "Shields. Go!" Me already having it, I ran up to Hiccup who was struggling.
"Your most important piece of equipment is your shield! If you must make a choice between a sword or a shield, take the shield!" I looked around and noticed that the Groncle was chasing Fishlegs. I ran up to the dragon and threw one of my swords at it. The dragon turned towards me and blasted towards me.
I dodged and it hit Ruffnut's and Tuffnut's shield instead. "Tuffnut, Ruffnut! You're out!" Gobber pointed at us. "Those shields are good for another thing. Noise! Make lots of it to throw off a dragon's aim!" I started banging my swords together. Astrid, Fishlegs Hiccup and Snotlout started hitting their shields with their weapon. We started circling the Groncle. "All dragons have a limited number of shots. How many does a Groncle have?" Hiccup left the circle and the rest of us were left to dodge all of the attacks. "Five?" "No, six!" Fishlegs raised the arm with the shield. The dragon noticed and fired at his shield. "Correct, six! That's one for each of you newbies! Fishlegs, out." He started running away again. "Hiccup, get in there!" I ran to Hiccup and pulled him closer to the middle. "Snotlout! You're done!" I ran to the opposite direction of Hiccup to try and throw off the Groncle. But not long after I ran off, it fired at Hiccup. "One shot left!" My eyes widened. "Hiccup!" The Groncle was flying towards Hiccup, who he pinned to the wall and almost fired at him.
Thankfully, Gobber pulled the dragon away just at the right time saving Hiccup. The dragon fired at the wall instead of him. I ran around Gobber and ran up to Hiccup. "You alright..?" I offered him a hand and he took it. He stood up. Gobber threw the dragon back in it's cage. And he walked over to us. "Remember, a dragon will always-" He turned to Hiccup. "-always go for the kill." Hiccup glanced at the hole in the wall beside him and I could see that he was probably thinking about the Night Fury that he let go... That let him go.

No Easy Mode
Reincarnation isn't easy, Sure you might have a status menu but unlike a video game the training is real, the blood, sweat, and tears are real. Unfortunately for Samuel Erasi Fuller he found out that no amount of video game knowledge can prepare you for a world of skills, attributes and magic and even his top notch survival skills only go so far when there are beasts that shoot fireballs or move like a bolt of lighting. Worse yet there are no levels of skills just a name and description and a percentage display! Edit: Yes the poorly done cover is my personal work. Drawing anything using your finger and an app on your phone was not as easy as the tutorial made it look!

The Dreamside Road
Five years after the world fell into chaos, a treasure of artifacts is up for grabs. The relics of the Dreamside Road offer a power that could help rebuild or annihilate what remains. Orson Gregory is an adventurer for hire, but hunts this treasure for answers, not glory. Enoa Cloud’s late aunt helped hide the Dreamside Road, but following in her aunt’s supernatural tradition offers her as much peril as power. Together, Orson and Enoa battle a magic-obsessed militia, clash with a host of rivals, and face constant adventure on their journey to find the Dreamside Road. *Updates Monday and Friday The Dreamside Road is now on TopWebFiction! Vote so people know this exists. _____________________________________ NOTE: The Progression tag applies specifically to Enoa. Also, fair warning, that element doesn't enter the story until she begins her studies. Content: Main characters range in age from teenagers to people in their thirties and older, but it will not contain gratuitous violence or explicit sexual content. It also won’t shy away from implication, anything to make this story and its world feel more real. Characters will freely allude to potentially triggering topics, including living with a disability, facing terminal illness, coping with trauma, surviving societal destabilization, and the consequences of bigotry. At its most intense, the Dreamside Road is a hard PG-13. Worldbuilding: This is not a story with a lot of early exposition scenes, conveniently explaining ‘magic systems’ and political dynamics. Readers will learn, progressively, as the characters do. This story/world has a ‘magic system’, or rather, a set of systems, but the effort to quantify and understand the truth of the setting plays a role in the backstory, as well as in some character motivations. In that same vein, not every character has a firm grasp on the nature of their world, and not every piece of dialog from every character should be taken as entirely truthful Worldbuilding. Also, this isn't the softest Sci-fi. There are at least some basic explanations given for various elements, but Royal Road does not give me a spectrum to choose from. Given the choice between hard and soft, let's just say The Dreamside Road won't be cited in any college Physics papers. Setting and Theme: The Dreamside Road walks the line between fantasy and science fiction and deals with finding one’s place in a changing world. Many of the characters in this story are United States natives and the story begins in the United States, my homeland. However, knowledge or interest in this country is not necessary to understand the story, especially as it progresses. Also, as this is a novel that deals with societal collapse and while that damage may be widespread, in story, I don’t want to overstep and critique the culture of others’ unless I have particular knowledge in a given area. Ultimately, the Dreamside Road is American in the same way Harry Potter is English, fantasies that do not have a full secondary world, but with enough original elements to fully diverge the setting from our the real world.
