《RTTE watches HTTYD》(11)The Saddle

Many eyebrows shoot up into hairlines. They were again, amazed at the craftsmanship. 'A boy not even of courting age building better works than men three times his age.' Viggo shakes his head slightly, almost fondly, at the thought.
Mala looked at the screen thoughtfully, none of the dragons on her island have ever been anything like the nightfury that she and her people have seen. Could it be that the boy and dragon share a bond of nestmates? Brothers? If so, it changes her people's entire view of dragon and human co-existence. If this bond can be re-created? It would only bring her people and dragons closer together. She straightened in her seat, determined to see the outcome of these memories. Of course, some bonds between nestmates are stronger than others and these two seem to be well on their way towards an unbreakable one if they haven't already.
Viggo leans forward a little interested to see the process of such brilliance that has been a nuisance ever since the riders found out about his hunter's existence.
Mala looks at Throk, already planning on finding the grass.
Ryker just looks at the screen. Looks at his brother and deadpans, "We go through countless grueling expeditions, losing more men than I can count hunting dragons and getting them into cages, and this boy learns there is a special type of grass that makes dragons as dangerous as puppies. All while befriending a dragon. And I wondered how he wins almost every battle. He defiantly learned more techniques in calming and taming dragons." At his brother's words, Viggo re-calls how Hiccup won most of their battles and destroyed almost every plot.
The time they planned to attack the edge while most of the riders were away dealing with rabid dragons only for them to be at Hiccup's command and destroyed their fleet, the Quakens they trained destroying their marble fortress impenetrable to any other dragon... 'Every plot, eradicated because Hiccup gained the trust of dragons, tamed them-helped them. In return, the dragons followed his commands like he was their king-.' Viggo leaned back with his eyes wide. 'King... Leader of the dragon riders, tamer of a nightfury, king of all the dragons he's saved... Hiccup isn't just the leader of the riders, he's the leader of all his dragons! The dragons on his island regularly leave if they aren't part of the security system. Those dragons communicate with other dragons, and those dragons share the information with others... No wonder he's able to tame any dragon he's come across! His own dragons have spread the word while Hiccup unknowingly proves himself to other dragons with his actions, making them want to follow!' Viggo almost laughs at his thoughts, he's finally figured it out. 'As long as you, dear Hiccup, keep rescuing dragons, the dragons will follow you.'

Its brilliance in its truest form. Humans and dragons alike follow Hiccup not because he asks, no he's too good to ask for complete devotion, but because of who he is. His personality, his actions, his desire to protect, his brilliant mind. And the best part? Hiccup has no idea, he thinks it's luck in coming across dragons that question first. 'Oh dear Hiccup, your too precious, and everyone knows it, even if they don't admit it. All the more reason for Ryker and I's plans to be expedited.' Ryker's still looking at Viggo, he looks back and nods once making a self-satisfied look appear on both their faces. They'll have what they want, one way or another.
Dagur snorts at the ridiculousness.
Dagur shakes his head with a deranged smile. Hiccup's never been good at receiving praise all at once, even attention makes him squirm some. It's only when he's commanding others in the heat of battle that all the shyness gets pushed away. Hiccup would much rather be alone in his workshop, designing and inventing to his heart's content. When Dagur used to visit he would always find Hiccup in his room at the forge, designing to his heart's content even with Stoick's booming voices demanding he goes to the monthly chieftain meetings, as to get a handle on things at an early age, also hoping that the others might influence his son to be more Viking like. Stoick eventually gave up.
All shake their heads or do other visible signs of exasperation that only one person noticed something was going on. Like Ryker putting his head in his hands.
Mala is looking at Throk, while Ryker is looking at Viggo. Another trick to calm dragons in seconds.
Mala's gaze on Throk intensifies while Throk is nodding his head almost comically. The villagers are about to gain extra lessons.
Dagur snorts. "Hiccup defiantly didn't like that."
Viggo looks over, intrigued. "What makes you say that?"
Dagur gives a little smirk, "He hates attention, especially large amounts of attention like that, it's part of why he never went out of his way to impress. It's only when he's either in battle or planning something that he's forwards, it comes out occasionally when he's angered or really spirited about something. It's why I always try to end the battle quickly, you haven't seen him angry yet." Viggo's suddenly interested in toying with Hiccup, what does he look like when furious? What's his limit?

Throk slapped his forehead at the male twin's idiocy.
Ryker just stares. Blinks- and stares some more. Everyone is looking at him but he doesn't seem to sense them. He suddenly puts his head in his hands and lets out a loud and obnoxious groan that easily translates, 'I am so done.' Viggo doesn't blame him. I mean really!? All this time they could've led dragons into cages by using the reflection of the sun's light!?
Mala is again intensely looking at Throk. Not one of them knew any of these tricks, which means none of their ancestors did either. Instead, they were found out by a boy just fifteen years old on pure chance, all because he befriended a dragon.
Throk sighs at the idiocy again, he's also very glad for the terror considering what the twin might have said would be less than... appropriate.
"And you deserve every bit of it." Mala nodded along with what Dagur said.
Mala's eyes narrowed. Throk slapped his forehead, resounding with an audible SMACK.
Dagur huffs out a laugh, Hiccup was always a sneaky little punk despite all the trouble he got into, it wasn't even half the amount he got away with.
"That's grea-"
"-never mind." Dagur finishes.
Dagur makes a face. "Hiccup is in the forge all the time, night especially. That's when he builds all his crazy machines without getting told off, it shouldn't be unusual to hear Hiccup making a racket."
"Oh no." Dagur knows very well how Astrid can be when she's suspicious.
She's also very paranoid all the time, especially back then. Hiccup is screwed as he also, consequently from having no friends, terrible at lying and not looking suspicious when he's up to something. People tend to ignore him, allowing him to fade into the background and do as he pleases as long as the whole town isn't affected. It's also how Hiccup gets away with everything, he can just say no one saw him at the crime scene, and no one remembers if they do or not so they say no.
"Oh no." Dagur repeated.
Dagur breathes a sigh of relief. "Good timing sheep, very good timing. Anymore of whatever Hiccup was doing would have ended in Astrid either finding about Toothless there and then or her being even more suspicious and finding out about the dragon sooner rather than later. She still is extremely suspicious so I'm guessing she finds out soon."
Viggo and Ryker however are not listening. Trying not to read too much into the situation. Hiccup could have been acting like that because he was extremely nervous not because Astrid was- is his crush. Even if that was part of it, they doubt that it's because of choice. The only two girls even close to Hiccup's age are Astrid and Ruffnut, between the two it's obvious Astrid would be the better choice. Both brothers also heavily doubt that Berk's fine with same-sex relationships. It's one thing to accidentally destroy the village because one is being chased by a dragon, it's another for the chief's successor to willingly be in a relationship with another man, consequently not giving an heir.
The two brothers, for these reasons, decide not to read that much into the situation. Even if the two are in the beginning stages before courtship, they are confident they're able to win.

Sometimes, even the most outright affront to liberty seems to be justified under certain contexts. Or maybe I should stop reading about Stalin, I think it's affecting me.

Dirge
All things are. We once dreamed of a sky filled with possibilities. Of neverending knowledge. But those were conceited times, filled with quibbling. Now we look up and fear the vastness. We fear that there’s no edge to infinity. Humanity pulled itself together. Not like you’d expect, not like you’d approve of, but the results are spectacular. We call ourselves Utopians now, to make it simple for our kin in the cosmos. We’ve moved out into the Omniverse, to unlimited resources, and to dominance over the weak. Not for gain, but to the ends of permanence and peace. The cessation of their suffering. At the apex, looking down on those confined, those unenlightened, we felt safe. So few stand shoulder to shoulder with us. Fewer yet of them are so united as we. Porter, a godkiller for the Eidolons, is out of the job. Christopher, a Magus in the Guild, has him a new one, but with motives questionable. Kendall, a failing student at the Monastery, has to deal with secrets he never wanted. Anna, her entire life just fell apart, leaving her bereft. And Doran, he awakens. Each of these people, connected as members of the Omniversal Utopian Commonwealth, are helpless to the dark truth closing in. Not even the artificial intelligence, Aku, keeper of all Utopian power, can stop the Ouroboros. It’s not a new dawn. The light is dying. Hold your breath and go gently.
