《RTTE watches HTTYD》(10) Training and Learning
Advertisement
Now that everyone has processed the last scene they are eager to keep watching.
Everyone rolls their eyes, and Dagur scoffs. As if those teens would willingly work with Hiccup. With the exception of Fishlegs, he's alright.
"But Hiccup wouldn't know how to throw a bucket. He's never been on fire brigade duty only working in the forge, which has never required throwing a bucket of water." Says Dagur, surprisingly reasonably.
Everyone blinks for a few moments before paling, eyes going back to the images that Dagur was already staring intently upon.
"How? You never told them how! And all it takes is one spark and that whole arena goes Boom!" Dagur said yet again.
The Grimborn Brothers are nodding in agreement, even the Defenders. You can't learn how to deal and live with dragons without also knowing how to take care of one if a dragon goes on a rampage.
Ryker rests his head in his hands, this is going to go terribly and he already knows it. Not many know it but Ryker usually oversees training which is why he gets so worked up about the poor training they're doing.
No one calls him out on telling the informer to stop, Hiccup was clearly nervous and everyone could agree that Fishlegs was not helping in the slightest. It didn't help them to know what the dragon could kill them with when the teens didn't know how to deal with it.
The watchers tense. Shadow for a different reason than the others, anticipation building.
Dagur snorts breaking the tension.
Mala glares, someone in the room smacks their face, and Shadow's shoulders were ever so slightly shaking.
More smacks to the face were heard and groans. Mala's glare deepened and Shadow finally let out a few chuckles.

Everyone stills again. Dagur is staring intently at the screen.
No one laughs. Well, Shadow giggled silently.
Everyone tenses.
'No shit sherlock.' Thought Shadow dryly
"Why isn't he doing anything!?" Ryker finally says frustrated.
To him, it was obvious that things were about to go to dragon dung. Hiccup as mentioned before had never been on fire brigade duty, so had never been taught how to properly throw a bucket of water that high.
Ryker just groaned.
Ryker just groans louder putting his head in his hands. Viggo looks at him in understanding. Ryker is actually a very good instructor for combat, Viggo has seen him do it a few times, he looks over the main instructors to make sure they give the children the best possible training so they're ready when it comes time for them to join. Viggo has actually seen Ryker cuss out and yell at an instructor when the instructor showed favoritism and kept putting his least favorite in impossible-to-accomplish situations and tasks.
Let's just say that instructor won't ever be seen around the tribe again anytime soon, or ever. Ryker postponed a scheduled dragon hunt to get the group of children caught up and then find another instructor that will actually teach everyone and treat the children equally. It did a load of good and the tribe that was previously wary of Ryker with his intimidating nature warmed up to him real quick. Some women had even asked Ryker to give their babe his blessing and good fortune, which included holding the babes and kissing their heads. Ryker couldn't say no and it's something Viggo teases him relentlessly about when at their tribe. Yes, their tribe. They're brothers and have stuck with each other through thick and thin, they co-chief the tribe. Ryker handles all military and combat respectively, which includes training of initiates and partly strategy as well as ammunition and boats for hunting or war. Viggo deals with politics and the economy, trades, jobs, alliances, money, and strategy. When it comes to alliances, money, trades, and strategy Ryker helps Viggo and offers a new perspective.

While Ryker may not know enough to see hidden meanings behind words, he does know which places offer better military support. He knows a tribe's military numbers, their territory and how it could be used to our advantage even if that advantage is saving extra days' worth of boating, a tribe's allies and how they are, and what resources a tribe has. While Viggo can do all of that, Ryker knows militia like no one else and can also point out how tribes can use our territory to either weaken us, other allies, or to help support our enemies as well as point out some other benefits certain territories have from a military perspective.
Ryker's eyes widen his mouth drops in shock, he looks stunned for some moments before it's replaced by fury. "What the hell kind of instructor are ye! Cower'en behind some metal bars! You have children out there! In extreme danger! And ye just gunna stay there!?" Was bellowed out.
No one moved, eyes wide staring at Ryker like a rabbit would a wolf. No one had ever, ever seen Ryker this angry except for Viggo, and even then it was few and far between. Ryker looked like a furious titan wing dragon, fire blazing in his eyes, imaginary smoke coming out of his nostrils with how deep he was breathing, every muscle taut and ready to strike, him looming over everyone else, him jumping out of his seat. Ryker's accent was more pronounced in his fury, words seeming to slur together yet crystal clear only served to increase the intimidating figure in front of everyone. Even Viggo sat rigidly still, eyes looking at Ryker but not meeting his eyes.
Ryker stops looking so furious, looking at the screen intently.
Now everyone was in curious awe. 'How was he doing tha-'
"Are you telling me we could have initiates put a dead eel under their vests and armor or in a pouch of some kind to keep dragons from hurting them in training? All this time?" Ryker said, slowly.
The watchers aren't much better. 'That was brill-'
Dagur snorts. Of course, Hiccup would be awkward at the newly found attention.
Most of the watchers raise their eyebrows that only Astrid was suspicious.

Sturmblitz Kunst: Becoming a Dissident for Martial Arts
"I don't care what you read in some old, dusty tome. You can spend decades chasing an outmoded cultivation method that'll probably lead to a faux-breakthrough trap from the Emperor that turns you into a walking impurity tumor, or you can give me a couple months and I'll teach you how to punch through someone's head." - Zelsys "Sevenfold Storm-conqueror" Newman, Founder of the Newman Family The world at large has just begun its recovery from the nigh-apocalyptic War of Fog. Catastrophic environmental damage and gaping power vacuums stir the cogs of history into motion in the absence of open war, eternally greased by the blood and sweat of ambition. A small duchy in the North of the country now stands at the precipice of upheaval as the burgeoning powers of the new era clash within its borders... Meanwhile, as the survivor of a now-extinct cultivator family struggles for survival in a world that cares not about his social status, the very embodiment of his escapist coping mechanisms forces him to pursue the fantasies of self-determination he had never dared act upon.

The Tower Must Fall - Combat Gardener
If you're interested in a conceptual, ground-up rewrite leave a comment and tell me what you loved about it. I've got a pretty good idea of what everyone hated so there's no need for expounding on that. Gardener? A support class? This can't be! What was all my hard work for? Forget this world. Forget the System. Even if I'm a lowly support class, I'll take on the Tower and take them all down! Since the System appeared one hundred years ago, humanity has been divided into three: combat classes, intellectual classes, and support classes. Assigned at the moment of high school graduation, one's class determines their future. Rowan wanted the most out of life. A combat class, an intellectual class, either would be fine. When he is instead assigned a support class, Gardener, he notices the System is completely rigged against support classes. Refusing to give up on his dream of realizing his future by his own terms, Rowan challenges the Tower, the seat of the System and home of the Hero-King, in hopes of bringing the entire System to its knees. Season One complete. Permanent Hiatus, Pending Rewrite. Important notes: -LitRPG fantasy -Rowan is not perfect. He's got flaws, emotions, and personal issues to work through. If you want a perfect, overpowered MC who makes the right decision every time, this is NOT the work for you. -This story opens with a negative situation and an emotional growth arc for the main character. Please don't review until chapter 30 because the arc is not complete until that chapter. (Chapters are short, that's an average RR book's chapter 10) -No harem, no rape, no isekai, no romance -Questions? Please ask!

CW: Contains mildly graphic scenes of violence/death, topics of unwanted pregnancy/abortion, scientific experimentation on sapient beings, depression/suicide, grief, and trauma. The tone of this fiction is often dark and distinctly dystopian in lighter shades of Margaret Atwood, though where there is darkness there is always hope and light. On Hiatus Until September When the School Year Begins and Mom This story takes a considerable amount of time and mental energy to complete. I thought I had enough backlog and time to post it as a serial while COVID kept my child home from school, but it turns out while I can quickly write other pieces, I cannot produce the quality I need with this one at an acceptable rate. We'll resume in September when my days are much freer. Thank you for your patience and stay tuned for a different storytelling romp more suited for a serial platform in the meantime.
