A/N: This is just a little sneak peak at my next book! I will put an announcement on my page when it's posted so keep an eye out if you're interested I guess...

*Madison's POV*

1856....

I've been walking for days now, on the run for my freedom. The sun was hot, making me sweat, but the thought of my freedom was what kept me going.

I was born into slavery, my mom got impregnated by my master, not like she had a choice in the matter though, making him both her master and my father. But he never treated me as such. In fact, he used to beat me the most. Well, until he sold me when I was 10. I'm 17 now.

He sold me to a plantation owner in Florida. He was a cruel man, the Devil's Spawn. I prayed to God to take his souls away if he couldn't change his views. Every time her caught me praying, he would beat me, saying that "God doesn't care for your kind." But that didn't stop me.

God finally answered my prayers a week or so ago.

My Master went out into town that night, everyone else was asleep. I took the opportunity to run. Run until I was north...

My plane was to at least get to Illinois until I could reach Minnesota. I had a cousin who lived there so I knew I could stay with her.

I was almost to the borderline of Kentucky when I heard the gallop of hooves. I sped up my pace, knowing that if I stopped, I would die. My Master had sent people out to look for me and bring me back to him, either that or kill me. Luckily, I've avoided them for a while but I had a feeling they would catch me at some point.

And when I felt something hard hit my head, I knew I was a goner.

"Well, well, well. Look what we have here." I heard a man say as I laid there. I knew that if I tried to keep running it would just end badly for me.

I heard a clicking noise and looked over to see that the man was pointing a gun right at me. "Are you coming with us." He asked cruelly.

I sat up and glared at the man in front of me. "I'd rather die than go back to being his property again." I spat at him. And that's when I felt a sting in my hip, the impact of the billet making me fall back.

I heard him chuckle and trot off as I took my final breaths. I looked around, at least I was dying next to what I loved most besides God and my Momma; Nature. It has always been kind to me, nature has. Unlike the cruel nature of humans.

I looked over and saw a beautiful Lily. I touched it gently, it's petals soft. I was so focused on the flower and my breathing that I didn't hear footsteps coming closer to me.

I looked up when I saw him hovering over me though. "Are you my lord?" I croaked out weakly.

"No ma'am. I am not the lord, but I may be of some assistance. Now stay still, this will sting a bit." He said. I furrowed my eyebrows, but started screaming when he bit into my neck. It felt like my whole body was on fire.

It was an agonizing pain. It felt like I was going to die. I felt the stranger pick me up, I thrashing in his arms from the pain.

And next thing you know it stopped, along with my heart.
