The next morning I woke up with an arm draped over my waist and a face pressed into my shoulder. To make the situation even worse, Chip was curled up against my face ensuring that every inhale of breath I took, I was that much closer to inhaling fur.

I stayed as still as I could while I attempted feebly to assess the situation. The arm was obviously one of the boys, and as the night came back to me in little fragments, I figured it was probably Chester. He probably came back into check on me and ended up falling asleep.

I continued to lay there, with my muscles locked up as I convinced myself that this was in fact what had happened, and with a deep breath that somehow was the key that unlocked my mobility, I decided that a little prank was in order.

Anything to distract me from having to deal with Mabel.

I reached up and pushed Chip's body away from my face, her eyes opened up and I swear she rolled them in my direction before stretching and jumping off the edge of the bed. I stifled a laugh, and rolled over, making sure to be very dramatic about it as I rolled on top of... Beck? His eyes flew open, full of grumpy irritation. He opened his mouth, to yell at me I assume, but before he could speak his eyes managed to sweep over my face.

The predicament I had unknowingly put us in, left me laying on my stomach, on his stomach, with his arm tangled up in the sheets, and pressed against my waist because he couldn't exactly move it. What I had planned to do to Chester, I wasn't sure. But what I just did to Beck left me speechless, excuseless, and courageless.

So of course I let out a squeak of embarrassment and continued to roll, as he opened his mouth to speak. He barely got my name out before I fell off the bed and onto the floor. There wasn't any time to make an escape though, because Beck was landing on me not a second later.

I grunted and he quickly pushed himself off of me, but hovered over top of me in a push up like position. I could only imagine how I looked. Tear stained cheeks, hair that resembled a bird's nest, and to top it off I probably had drool on my chin or something equally as bad. Tears don't usually come while I'm awake, and I've yet to figure out how to keep them from escaping while I sleep- but then again I've never had to worry about it before.

Beck swallowed, his adam's apple dipping with the motion, and his blue eyes searched my face, "We've got to stop falling on each other like this," he said, humor lighting up his eyes.

I opened my mouth, ready to reply with something snarky, but a knock on the door interrupted my train of thought. I glanced to the door, not that it did any good because Beck hadn't moved yet, and he was blocking my view. I looked back to Beck, expecting him to move off of me, but instead he just grinned, still watching me.

"Who is it?"

"Chester, who in the blazes do you think it is?"

I sucked in a breath, wondering what Chester must think of me. Sleeping in a room with Beck all alone, with the door shut. Maybe if I roll under the bed and pretend not to be in here, I'll be spared the need to explain myself.

But Beck still hadn't moved, in fact he was still smiling down at me. His eyes once again captured my attention, and I momentarily lost every single thought that raced through my mind. His lips spread into a wide grin and he tilted his head to the side. His head dipped down a little, I swear, but I didn't let the moment play out, because behind him I could hear the door opening. Chester was already complaining about something, and I pressed my hands to Beck's chest, shoving him a bit.

I knew he had moved willingly because feeling the wall of muscles under my hands had only solidified the fact that I probably wouldn't have been able to do it with the pitiful amount of force I had just issued to him.

He landed to the side of me, and while I sat up and ran a hand through my hair, finding a tangle almost instantly, I heard him give a carefree chuckle. The smile that begged to spread across my face was not because of that in the slightest. I refused to believe it.

Chester stepped in fully and looked from the bed, to the floor where both Beck and I sat. I didn't look at Beck as I stood up, knowing full well what shade my cheeks were, and attempted to flee the room.

"Awe, what the hell did you do to her Beck?" Chester said as he blocked my path and made me sit on the edge of Beck's bed.

I didn't turn towards him as I heard him chuckle, though in my peripheral vision I could see him standing up and letting the blanket drop. He wore sweat pants and a tshirt, thankfully, "What did I do to her?" he asked, sounding incredulous, "she's the one who threw me onto the floor when she found out I was in bed with her!"

"Well why the hell were you in bed with her?"

I looked at Chester, who wore some khaki shorts and a black shirt, he was glaring at Beck, and I smiled. Finally the one question I had been asking since I felt his arm around my waist, though then I guess I had been asking why Chester was the culprit, and I had made up the reason.

But that's not the point.

"First off, nobody told me that she was in my bed, and when Sam and I came in late last night, I sort of assumed that she was Cody, no," Beck said, backing up, "not like, I thought she was Connor okay?" he said, trying to make it clear he thought I was the other Cody.

I turned around to look at him, "Wait you thought I was Cody? So you usually sleep with your arm around Cody? Is there something I don't know about you two?" I asked, completely confused, and strangely upset.

Chester choked behind me, and Beck's eyes flickered to me before his face went pale, "No, that's not, I mean," he sputtered, hands out, "I'm not gay!"

Chester stepped up next to me and put an arm around my shoulders, pulling me towards him in a half hug, "You know Cupcake? I've always thought one of them were in the closet, it's just taken a little bit of time for him to realize it."

The teasing was laced thick in Chester's words, but Beck was so distraught trying to prove his sexuality that he must not have heard it. His cheeks filled with air and puffed out like a monkey as his cheerful mood turned into frustration. His eyes begged me to understand.

"I'm not gay, I swear," he said, putting his hands on his hips, then looking at Chester as if realizing something, "No offense to you man, I'm not uncomfortable with it, but it's just not how I roll you know?" he said, his cheeks pink.

Chester nodded slowly, "You tell yourself whatever you need to tell yourself to get by. I'll be here when you finally emerge from the closet, Kid."

With that, Chester pulled me to my feet and guided me out of the room, pulling the door shut behind us. He pushed me into the room that I was supposed to be sharing with Mabel. I duly noted that the room had been cleaned, everything put back into place, and the lamp was missing. Chester made his way over to my bags while I lost myself in thought of what just happened.

Beck was gay? Why did that bother me so much, when here Chester is, and I have zero problems with his preference in males. I wandered over and sat on the edge of the bed.

"Kodi, sweetie, I hate to break it to you but you're going to be stuck with me all day until we go to the meeting about your sister," Chester said, throwing clothes at me as he spoke.

I huffed and gathered them up, noting that they combined to make an outfit I wouldn't have thought to pair up, "What do you mean stuck with you? That sounds great," I said, noticing how tight and fake my voice sounded.

Chester looked over at me before walking over and kneeling in front of me, "I'm going to pretend that didn't sound faker than my love for women, just because I know you're worried and stressed. Don't be. We can talk but I want you to get dressed, and have some breakfast," he patted my leg and stood, "Once we're on our walk then I will consider answering any questions you might have," he winked at me, and suddenly the weight I hadn't noticed on my chest lifted a little.

I would be getting answers today, or at least I hoped I would be. I nodded at the promise of some answers, and waited until Chester departed the room before changing. The shirt, wasn't mine, but if I tucked it into the jeans it went really well. I laced up the black combat boots, and while they had already been broken in by someone else, they fit like a charm.

I pulled my grab bag up off the ground and set it on the bed. While I dug through it, searching for my dagger to put into the side of the boot, I found something I had long since forgotten about. The crinkle of the chocolate bar made my stomach grumble. I quickly found the dagger and put it in the side of the boot, moving around the room a bit, and even shaking my leg to ensure it wouldn't just fall out.

Before I left the room I grabbed the chocolate, and shoved it into my back pocket. The forest green jacket I had been given to go with the outfit covered any hint of the chocolate. I was nearly to the door when I remembered my hair and probably nasty smelling breath.

Quickly, I brushed out the mess, and freshened up my teeth. The mirror seemed to be lying to me, showing a girl who looked much more put together and suited for this world than I knew I was. But for once, I was grateful for the trick of the eye.

At the bottom of the stairs, I caught sight of Mabel. She lay passed out on the floor, and her wrists were red from struggling with her restraints. Some part of me wanted to try to fix what had been lost a long time ago, but the bigger part knew that this was impossible. Mabel and I would never be sisters, and at the rate it's going, she'd rather kill me than accept me.

"Kodi!" Chester called me from the kitchen.

I didn't glance back at Mabel as I joined my new family in the kitchen.
