They took Daryl into the house and Hershel fixed him up. Carl was finally up and walking around which made me very happy to see that he was recovering just as well as I was, maybe even better, since he listened and actually stayed in bed like the doctor said to. Carl was on his way to help his mom with feeding the Chickens when I saw him.
"Hey Corporal." I yelled to him and he ran over to give me a hug. I bent down just enough to hug him but not enough to hurt me. The young boy threw his arms around my neck and smiled.
"Raven, you're up and walking too." He said, pulling away.
"Come on bud. You think one little bullet is going to keep me down?" I said messing up his hair. He smiled and shook his head.
"No, I think it will take a lot more than that to keep us down." He said before running off to his mom. I smiled and walked over to Daryls tent. I could see one of his bolts being pushed in and out of the netting of his tent. I shook my head at his actions.
"Knock Knock." I said as I leaned into the tent.
"What you want?" He said, still stabbing holes in his tent.
"Just wanted to talk to you." I said crossing my arms while standing in the entrance of the tent.
"I don't wanna talk." He huffed and went back to stabbing holes in his tent.
"Fine, don't talk. Just listen. You were gone for days and honestly you had me worried sick. When I watched you get shot...I felt my heartbreak okay. Daryl I care about dammit and I don't want you to die. Look I'm not mad at you anymore. I was just upset." I finished playing with my dog tags. Daryl looked at me like he was going to say something but Andrea walked in.
"Hey." She said walking in completely ignoring my presence.
"This is not that great, but..." She said handing Daryl a book titled 'The Case of the Missing Man' Daryl flipped through it.
"What, no pictures?" He said looking at her. "Also, nice shiner." He added
"I'm sorry. I feel like shit." She said ignoring his comment about her black eye.
"Yeah, you and me both." He said adjusting his pillow. "I'm gonna go." I said walking out and I could hear Daryl calling my name but, I ignored him and walked off into the distance. Daryl was just being too flirty with a girl who had just shot him after being told not to shoot. I was irritated to say the least and I need to clear my head.
I was back by the fence at the edge of the property and I saw everyone at the camp. It was like I was someone standing on the outside and I was. Glenn was acting strange as shit and they were all talking about gun training.
"Hey, Raven!" Rick yelled in my direction.
"Yeah?"
"Will you come help Shane with gun practice?" I thought about it for a minute.
"Rick, I'm good. I'm not equipped to teach right now." He nodded in understanding that was till Shane walked over with a gun in his hand and Rick was looking at Carl with a stern look.
"Carl, what did you do now." I said to myself as I watched them all gather around Carl back by the RV. I honestly enjoyed watching the world from the outside. It was much more peaceful. Like I was back in war and it was just me and my sniper. That's how I liked it, just me all alone with no one to worry about and no one to watch over. I could see Rick and Lori arguing and Rick looked up at me with a 'save me' look all over his face. From the looks it seems like they had come to an agreement. I watched everyone go off to the gun training except for Daryl and Glenn. I took a deep breath and walked away from the camp and decided to go off and explore. As I was walking I saw a small little cottage about 15 miles from the farm. It was out in the woods behind the farm. I didn't know if anyone was there at all or anything like that. I pulled out my handgun from my thigh and creaked open the door. I didn't hear anything so I kicked a can and yelled out, still nothing but silence. After being sure that no one was there I walked in.

The place was fairly clean and pretty undisturbed. I walked into the kitchen and the cupboards were full of food which brought a smile to my face. I walked up the stairs and found the bathroom full of medical supplies and so was the office that was up there. I found a medical degree hanging on the wall of the office.
"Hmm...a doctor. Good luck for me." I said to myself as I finished looking through the cabin. Once I got to the master bedroom I noticed a bag in the closest on the floor. It was full of ammo and medicine. The room was completely untouched and there was virtually no dust. It was perfect. I kept exploring and ended up finding a caller. It was full of military food reserves and extra guns and ammo and a shit ton of liquor. Like every kind known to man. I smiled when my gaze landed on 4 full bottles of Jack Daniels. I grabbed one of the bottles and wiped the small amount of dust off of it. I sighed and cracked it open. The smell of the spicy liquor hit my nose and numbed my senses. I took a large gulp out of the bottle and let it flow through my body. It burned my throat and warmed my body. I squinted my eyes and shook my head.
"Oh yeah, that's the good stuff." I said to myself. I took the bottle and grabbed a spaghetti meal and went back up to the office. I drank out of the bottle and ate the nasty food. I was used to it though it was what we always ate out on deployment. As I was going through the stuff I found a few books on military grade first aid. I studied what I could. I knew the basics of all of it but, I didn't know how much of it would actually work. So I decided why not get a little bit more knowledge. As I sat and read I noticed that it was starting to get darker outside. I thought about staying at the cabin or just going back grabbing my stuff and leaving everyone but, could I do that? Could I leave the only family I had left. My mind was racing through all these questions and answers at a hundred miles an hour. Maybe one night wouldn't be so bad.
I stayed there one night, it was great to sleep in a bed. The next morning I woke up with the sun and got ready to leave. I decided to keep this place to myself and walked back to the farm. Once I got there everyone was sitting by the fire and eating breakfast.
"Morning guys." I said walking into camp.
"Hey Raven." Carol said walking past me and placing some food on Daryl's plate.
"Where were you?" Shane asked me with an irritated voice.
"That's not your business now is it." I said walking past him and taking a seat over by Carl.
"Hey kiddo." I said ruffling his hair.
"Hey Aunt Raven." He said shoveling eggs into his mouth. Glenn got up catching my eye. He seemed troubled and like something was eating at him.
"Um, guys." Glenn said, getting the rest of the group's attention.
"So...the barn is full of walkers." he finished. My brain stopped everything around me and seemed to have started to move in slow motion.
"Glenn. Did I hear you right?" I asked him.
"Yeah, Raven you did." He said shoving his hands in his pockets. The group hit on high alert. Everyone went down to the barn to make sure Glenn was telling the truth. Shane was the one to look into the barn and make sure there were walkers in there.

"You cannot be okay with this." Shane said walking away from the barn and shoving past Rick.
"No I'm not, but we're guests here. This isn't our land." Rick said, almost defending the fact that our lives were on the line and they could be ended in less than 10 minutes.
"This is our lives!" Shane yelled at Rick.
"Lower your voice." Glenn and I said in sync. I looked over to the house to see Maggie standing on the porch with a very stern look on her face.
"We can't just sweep this under the rug." Andrea said, defending Shane.
"What you sucking his dick now too?" I said to her. She just basically ignored me.
"It ain't right. Not remotely. Okay, we've either got to go in there. We've got to make things right or we've just got to go. Now we have been talking about Fort Benning for a long time." Shane said to Rick.
"We can't go." Rick said to him with an angry voice.
"Why, Ricky? Why?" Shane asked him. I know he wanted to leave, but I also know that we have to keep everyone safe.
"Because my daughter is still out there." Carol said, crossing her arms. At this point most of us figured that she was dead by now.
"Okay." Shane said, rubbing his face in frustration.
"Okay, I think it's time that we all start to just consider the other possibility." Shane said but Rick cut him off.
"We're not leaving Sophia behind."
"I'm close to finding this girl. I just found her damn doll two days ago." Daryl said, cutting into the argument.
"You found her doll, Daryl. That's what you did. You found a doll." Shane told him.
"Hey, he's doing a hell of a lot more than you have Shane." I said cutting him off.
"You watch your mouth Raven." He said getting in my face.
"Or what?" I spat back in his face.
"You don't know what the hell you're talking about." Daryl said walking over to Shane and Rick stopped Daryl from getting any closer to him.
"I'm just saying what needs to be said. You got a good lead. It's in the first 48 hours." Shane started to rant, Rick jumped into his face and tried to stop him.
"Shane stop." Rick yelled at him as he kept going.
"Let me tell you something else, man. If she was alive out there and saw you coming all method out with your buck knife and geek ears around your neck, she would run in the other direction." Shane said, talking to Daryl. That's when shit hit the fan. Daryl lunged at Shane but Rick pulled him back and they all started shouting and arguing.
"Back off." Rick yelled as Lori and I grabbed Shane pulling him back.
"Keep your hands off me, both ya'." Shane said shoving us off and walking away.
"Just let me talk to Hershel. Let me figure it out." Rick said in Shane's direction. This caused Shane to turn around and get in Rick's face.
"What are you gonna figure out?!" Shane yelled and I pushed Shane back from Rick.
"Enough!" I yelled at him.
"If we're gonna stay. If we're gonna clear this barn. I have to talk him into it. This is his land." Rick said, trying to justify why the walkers are still there.
"Hershel sees those things in there as people...sick people. His wife. His step son." Dale said to Rick.
"You knew?" Rick asked him, almost pissed off.
"Yesterday day I talked to Hershel." Dale responded.
"And you waited the night?" Shane yelled at him.
"I thought we could survive one more night." Dale told them. I had started to tone them out as I walked over to the barn doors and watched as more and more pressure was being placed on them. Probably from all the walkers that were lining up thinking it was dinner time.
"Guys!" I yelled as the doors started to shake violently and the growls of the walkers sounded over the arguing. Everyone fell silent just listening, maybe mentally trying to count how many could possibly be in there. We all walked away from the barn except for Shane and Andrea. Shane was determined to have someone guarding the barn at all times and it had to be someone who knew how to handle a weapon.
I saw Daryl carrying a saddle over to the stables and I ran after him.
"Daryl you can't." I yelled making my way to him.
"I'm fine." He said placing the saddle on the stand.
"Hershel said you need to heal." I told him trying to stop him from hurting himself more.
"Yeah, I don't care." He said grabbing a rein for the saddle.
"Well, guess what I fucking do. So you're staying here." I said but he didn't seem to care nor did he listen to me.
"Rick's going out later to follow the trail." I explained as he kept setting up the horse to leave.
"Yeah well, I ain't gonna sit around and do nothing." I was starting to get frustrated with this redneck.
"No, You're right Daryl. You're gonna go out there and get yourself hurt even worse. Possibly even killed." I said walking over to him and reaching out for his arm. He jerked away and gave me an irritated and almost angry look.
"We don't know if we're gonna find her, Daryl. Carol even said it herself." I told him as he continued putting the saddle on the horse. He paused after I mentioned Carol's name. He stalked over to me and a ting of fear ran through my body.
"What?" He stopped not even two feet in-front of me.
"Look she can't lose you too. I can't." I said tears now threatening to fall from my brown orbs. Daryl threw down the reins and walked past me. I could feel his anger fuming off of him. That's when he threw the saddle off the stand and ended up hurting himself possibly even ripping open his stitches. I ran to his side.
"Are you okay? Did you rip open your stitches?" I asked him genuinely concerned for his safety.
"Just leave me be." He tried to push me away but I persisted. He got up and walked out holding his side.
"Stupid bitch." He said before leaving me in his dust to soak in what had just happened.

Force Majeure: A web novel
In the Qursan Empire, the grey walls of the city press down on its subjects. It is a highly divided society which is based on the magical strength of its citizens. While the most powerful are trained as Mages, the majority of citizens use their limited skills with essence to power the city in their assigned jobs. Jano is pretty much the lowest of the low in the Qursan Empire. A Class Ten citizen forced into transitory work after having his power restricted. When he gets the opportunity to change all of that, he takes it with both hands. Please note this is an edited version of my story ‘city of captives’. It follows a similar structure but I’ve ironed out some of the kinks. If you read that version, much of this will be similar though there are some differences. This is a slow burning progression fantasy. Please expect at least two chapters per week. I love writing this story but I do have unfortunate things to deal with like work and life outside of writing. I may be able to write and edit more than that, but it will never be less! If you enjoy this, consider following me on Instagram by just searching Crow J Williams.
