《Lost Fantasy-Life After Reincarnation (Arc 1)》Chapter 2

The setting sun illuminated the Ainzloft land, dyeing the fields a color of a fiery blaze orange. Walking on the road leading back to the village and Ainzloft manor, Logan looked around as he walked, occasionally greeting the farmers and villagers that he passed by.
It has been about half a year now since he had first came into this world, and he has gotten quite used to life here. It was nothing like his old life, but it was quite satisfying and soothing. This country feel of the Ainzloft territory was easy on the mind, allowing one to free his or her self from the worries of life.
Logan looked up at the sky, and at the birds that flew by over him. He dreamed of one day maybe flying in the air with the assistance of magic once he learned how to use magic himself. He knew that flying was doable, as the courier sometimes deliver mail by flying in the air, possibly with the assistance of wind magic.
As Logan continued to walk the country road, to the right of him, was the sparkling waters of a small river, where the main irrigation system of the village was located, and to the left of him, was the long sprawling plains, with farmland scattered on it. To the front of him, not far in the distance is the village. This village technically doesn't have a name as the villagers just refer to it as the village. In addition, it would appear that the Ainzloft territory doesn't have a formal name as well with the majority of outsiders referring to the land as Ainzloft.
"Hello there, Loganel!" a tall, muscular guy shouted to him as he entered the village. It was, Jord the village's guard captain. Him and his family that he brought with him when he was assigned here for guard duty are outsiders of the village. However, Jord and his kin was quickly accepted by the villagers by his open personality. It was all thanks to him that numerous fights could be broken up during special festival nights. "Heading home?" Jord asked, sitting on a stool outside of the blacksmith's place.
"Hello Jord," Logan answered him. "Yeah," he continued, "I'm going home now."
"You're not up to any trouble are you?" he said in a joking manner, bringing up one of their past memories when he caught Logan trespassing into the forests.
Logan was curious about whether or not there were actually monsters in this world, but before he could go far, he ran into Jord and a few other men of the guards. They were eliminating some pesty goblins and were just returning and they caught Logan red handed in the act. Jord promised to keep quiet about this incident to Maria after Logan begged him, but ever since, they've been joking around about it.
"I'm behaving," Logan answered. "What're you up to?"
"I'm having trusty old John make me a new sword," he said, smiling as he pointed with his thumb at the blacksmith who was polishing up what appears to be a newly forged blade. "Old one's served its time you see," he said, lifting a scabbard with a sword sheathed within up and setting it on the table. He then pulled the blade out and showed it to me. This blade, chipped in numerous areas and was thin from the numerous attempts at sharpening it. "Can't fight with this thing."

"How'd you get it to be so worn out?"
"You know," Jord answered, sheathing the ruined sword, "just monster hunting stuff."
"Are the monster's dangerous?" Logan asked, hoping that he would be able to acquire more information about this world.
"Nah," Jord answered, waving it the question off, "at least not those around here. The more dangerous ones don't live near people."
"Really?"
"Yeah. Because if there's a threat, the Royal Academy would issue a quest to their students or the Adventurer's Guild would issue a quest. If it is really very bad, the Knights would dispatch a unit here and take care of it. To my knowledge, there hasn't been a monster that us human's couldn't defeat. Maybe some lives will be lost, but humans haven't lost a battle to those monsters."
"That's so cool!" Logan tried to act what he envisioned a normal boy's reaction to be when hearing about such stories.
"Well, Loganel," Jord said, a big smile on his face as if proud of himself for inciting such admiration from the boy before him, "don't go venturing into the woods and try to catch yourself some monsters. They're still dangerous to kids."
"Got it," Logan smiled and waved as he walked away towards the Ainzloft manor.
Logan then continued to walk while also observing the beautiful scenery around him, which consisted of a setting sun, causing the river beside Loganel to be of a orange color as it reflected the orange sky above. To the left of Loganel was a vast farmland, cultivated by the village people, and to the right, beyond the river, was more farmland. Surrounding this plains was the forests, which were left untouched when the first settlers of this land had claimed the land that was now used for farming. Within those forests, reside a variety of creatures. From harmless birds to monsters. In the village, there are specialized hunters who venture into the forests and hunt wild game to sell at the village marketplace. Therefore, it was necessary for the forests to be cleared of any of the more dangerous monsters. That is where Jord and his men come in. All in all, the people that reside on this land knows how to work this land, and how to run their society.
After losing his train of thought by looking around, Loganel finally came into view of the Ainzloft manor. This manor, built from wood, had a beautiful white paintjob covering the outside of the huge mansion. In front of the manor was a garden, tended to by the maids and butlers Aldin and Maria had brought alongside them when they moved there.
"Looks like I made it in time for dinner."
Logan calmly walked towards his house, greeting the servants as he walked by. Logan had earned himself a good reputation amongst the servants. Since the Ainzloft family treated their servants with respect, unlike the other nobles, there was always a peaceful atmosphere in the manor. In addition, due to Loganel's mature behavior (because his soul belonging to someone who was already over twenty years old), the servants were relieved that he wasn't extremely demanding and selfish. This in turn generated favorable reactions in the servants when they saw him, knowing that he will treat them with the same respect that the adults would.

As the sun gradually lowered in the distant sky, gradually climbing down the mountains, a calm darkness swept over the Ainzloft territory. People where happy, enjoying a delicious meal and a drink after a day's worth of work. In the Ainzloft manor, they were the same way. With Laurina and Redgilus away at the Academy, the dining table was a bit empty. Therefore, instead of sitting where they usually sat, the Ainzlofts advocated the practice of sitting closer together. Aldin still sat at the head of the long rectangular table. However, Maria and Loganel sat closer to his end than before.
"Father," the older and more mature soul that resided within and had taken up the identity of Loganel said in a voice that he thought belongs to a child, "when can I start learning magic?"
"Loganel wants to learn magic?" Maria looked at him with a warm smile.
"Yes mother."
"Say," Maria then turned to look at Aldin, "isn't it about time we test for his magic attributes?"
"We do need to prepare his profile for the Academy soon," Aldin set down his fork and knife. "It would be nice to give him a head start in his education."
"Why didn't you think of this for the twins?" Maria said in a somewhat scolding tone.
"They wouldn't have listened," Aldin sighed and chuckled afterwards. He wiped his mouth with the white cloth set before him on the table. "They would have wanted to go off and play, doing their own things rather than learn. Loganel on the other hand, does not have siblings around to play with." Aldin looked at his son with a warm and loving gaze. "Also, he's more mature than both of them. Have you realized that?"
"Of course I had," Maria looked over at Logan as well, who a second earlier, was cutting the piece of meat on his plate with his knife. He had not noticed their eyes on him. Therefore, when he looked up, he was surprised that the two of them were staring at him.
Do they know? he thought, panicking on the inside. He was worried that Maria and Aldin had somehow discovered that he wasn't their son.
His worries though, were quickly disproved as the two of them continued the warm family talk that they were engaging in.
"I think it is time for us to test Loganel's magic affinities," Aldin announced, smiling happily as he eyed his son with a excited look.
"If he inherited your blood," Maria smiled, "he would make for a great mage!"
"Of course he will make a great mage. He's my son after all."
"What's happening?" Loganel asked, staring at them with a confused look. All of this isn't an act, as he was actually confused.
Magic affinity? he thought, what is that? Is this something that I have to go through to be able to use magic?
His questions though, Maria addressed. "Tomorrow, we're going to test to see what your talent in magic is going to be!"
"And it will also tell us what element of magic you will be most compatible with," Aldin added.
"What was your result, father?" Logan asked Aldin.
"Me?" Aldin paused for a brief moment to think. "I was pretty talented. I was compatible with three elements of fire, ice, and wind from the start. I'm sure you'll be quite talented yourself. Don't worry."
Maria looked at Aldin with a jealous look on her pretty face. She was jealous that her husband was getting all the admiration from her son, prompting her to take action. "My dear Loganel," she said in a warm voice, "would you like to learn swordsmanship?"
"Swordsmanship?" Aldin said with a joking disgust in his voice, "who would want to learn that?" Then, he turned to look at Logan. "Loganel, we are civilized people. We won't be engaging in physical combat like how your mother used to."
"Now, now honey," Maria Ainzloft's voice was accompanied with a fierce aura, warning Aldin to back off. "we don't know if Logan wants to learn or not. Let's have our son decide for himself shall we?"
"Fine," Aldin smiled sheepishly, showing his weakness and admitting to his wife that he was wrong.
"Logan," Maria's voice returned to that kind and loving voice that she usually has, "what would you like to do?"
This question, Loganel has thought of before. In fact, it was one of his most thought about topics. He had always wanted to use the arcane arts ever since he was reincarnated in this world. However, he would also like to experience sword combat.
"Can I be something of a battle mage?" he asked his parents in this world.
"Battle mage?" his father looked at his son with eyes that shined even brighter than before. "Pretty ambitious! You think you can handle the work load?"
"Of course," Loganel answered.
"That's my son," Aldin smiled proudly. "Maria, can you teach him on physical combat? And I'll teach him magic."
"Sure," Maria Ainzloft answered, "I don't have much to do lately. It's nice to be able to stretch and exercise."
"Alright then," Aldin Ainzloft stood up from his seat, making his chair slide back as he done so. "Starting tomorrow, your lessons officially begin!"
