Dumbledore's Will
ultiple days have passed and everyday, different muggle-borns continue to die. Ron's radio serves as a constant reminder of what's happening back in Hogwarts for me. I never told him to shut it off knowing it comforts him. Harry looked extremely bothered by it though. We've traveled to many places with no set destination. Apparating would be so much easier but Ron's injury hasn't healed yet.
"Can't sleep?" Harry asked coming to sit down beside me in front of the campfire.
"Not really," I sighed, "Why do you think Dumbledore left me this book?" I asked showing him the old book, "I mean, it's in such a bad condition. Half the times I can't even make out the words."
"No idea, what's in it?"
"Just a bunch of spells, a lot of offensive ones too."
"Maybe he gave it to help you learn more spells?"
"Yeah but the thing is- Most of these are the dark arts."
"No idea. You know how Dumbledore is, vague and no straight answers."
A short silence filled the air. The only sound we could hear were the static noise from Ron's Radio and the crackling sound of the campfire. "You know, I used to love the smell of forests. Even smelt it in my amortentia. Now I can't even stand it," I said laughing slightly.
"It's getting cold, you should come back in the tent. Ron and Hermione are both asleep," Harry said tucking a strand of hair behind my ear.
"You go ahead, I'll be inside right after I read a little bit more."
"You sure? If you don't come inside after 3 minutes, I'll be mad at you," He said.
"I won't disappear or leave you," I said kissing his cheek before he got up and went back inside the tent. I sighed looking back at the book turning to the next page. The page was in extreme bad condition, so bad I could only read a few words on the page. I could easily read the title of the page though, horcruxes.
"One splits one's soul and hides part of it in an object with murder. By doing so, one is protected, should you be attacked and your body destroyed."
Dumbledore already told me this before his death. But anyway, why would he even give me a book that contains dark arts like creating horcruxes? On the side of the page was a neatly written text presumably written by Dumbledore himself, something only this particular page had; 'Neither can live while the other survives.' Part of the prophecy, still nothing special. The middle of the page was severely damaged which I guess was done so on purpose so no one creates any horcruxes. The end of the page were written in very faint letters that I had to squint to even try to read.
"When one who's soul is broken dies, his soul will be attached to the closest living thing. Though the physical body is no more, their soul lives on, defeating death."
I tried not to scream dropping the book. When Voldemort died, he had already made several horcruxes thus breaking his soul. The closest living thing to him was Harry. Harry is a horcrux and he needs to die. Dumbledore is so cruel. So, so, cruel. Telling me this so Harry wouldn't want to die, to not have any hesitation, and for me to not get too attached. I held back my tears and threw the book into the fire running off to the edge of the protection barrier. There I knelt down, crying into my hands. I'm not ready to let him go. I'll never be ready to let him go.

"Hurry up!" My eyes shot up and I stood up drawing my wand at a muffled man's voice coming from outside the protection enchantments. From a distance, a group of snatchers walked towards my direction carrying a dead body. I held my breath standing still just watching the group pass by unable to see me.
"What's that?" One of the snatchers, Scabior stopped and turned around my direction. "What's that smell?" He walked directly in front of me just stopping and not doing anything other than smelling me. He only turned around when one of the snatchers dropped the dead body.
"What you doing?" Scabior asked furrowing his eyebrows.
"It's heavy."
"Oh, sorry. Do you want me to carry it?" Scabior said walking away allowing me to breathe again.
"Yeah, thank you."
"Don't be ridiculous. Pick it up."
"Snatchers," Harry said walking up beside me, "Good to know your enchantments work."
"He could smell it, my perfume."
"You wore perfume?"
"Scented roses, the same thing you smelt in your amortentia. That's what attracts you to me."
"I'd still love you without it. And as much as I love the smell, don't wear it."
"...Harry."
"Yeah?"
"We should..." I paused for a bit. I couldn't get the words out to break up. I loved him so much and for years even before we started dating. I can't imagine my life without him.
"What?"
"...Nothing. You're right, it's getting cold. Let's go back inside," I said grabbing his hand and leading him back towards the tent. I'll figure something out. I always do. I can figure it out.
"Are you sure it's nothing? You can tell me if you want," Harry said.
"Yeah, I'm sure," I said stopping to turn around and face him, "I love you more than anything, till our last breath," I whispered, leaning in to kiss him and cupping his face. While kissing, multiple tears started to stream down my eyes. I held on to him tightly like there was no tomorrow with each other.
"Ev... Are you alright?" He said pulling away and wiping my tears away. "Really, what's wrong?"
"You need a haircut Harry," I said trying to smile, "I hope I die first so I don't need to worry about living my life without you."
"Then I'd have to live my life without you."
"We'll share our last day then."
~***~
Hermione was giving Harry a haircut while I sat against the bed Ron was laying on. The radio was giving off statics and a deep silence filled the tent. I was fidgeting around with Harry's golden snitch, one he let only me touch. Only if I could just cut the snitch open to reveal whatever was inside.
"He doesn't know what he's doing does he?" Ron asked glaring at Hermione and Harry.
"Nobody does Ron," I replied back.
"Doesn't it bother you?"
"There are multiple things that bother me right now, you've got to be more specific."
"Everything. We've been out here for days and we weren't even able to destroy one horcrux with it in our hands."
"We knew it wouldn't be easy."
"Yeah, say it's not supposed to be easy. Doesn't it also bother you that Hermione and Harry are being awfully close?"

"What?" I said turning to face him, furrowing my eyebrows, "not at all. Harry is like a brother to Hermione and Hermione is like a sister to me. They'd never to that. You're overthinking it."
"I saw them talking together at night, the night Hermione suggested we should take turns wearing the locket. The night Harry was getting annoyed for the tiniest things. Did you know about that?"
"They were just talking."
"Oh my god!" Hermione said whilst cutting Harry's hair.
"What?" Harry said feeling the back of his hair to make sure Hermione didn't make a huge mistake.
"I'll tell you in a minute," Hermione said running over towards a table.
"Maybe you could tell me now," Harry said following Hermione.
"The sword of Gryffindor, it's goblin-made."
"Brilliant."
"No, you don't understand. Dirt and rust have no effect on the blade. It only takes in that which makes it stronger," she said showing him a book.
"Okay."
"Harry, you've already destroyed one Horcrux, right? Tom Riddle's diary in the Chamber of Secrets-"
"With a Basilisk fang. If you tell me you've got one of those in that bloody beaded bag of yours..."
"Don't you see? In the Chamber of Secrets, you stabbed the Basilisk with the sword of Gryffindor. Its blade is impregnated with Basilisk venom.
"...It only takes in that which makes it stronger."
"Exactly, which is why-"
"It can destroy Horcruxes."
"That's why Dumbledore left it to you in his will."
"You are brilliant, Hermione. Truly."
"Actually, I'm highly logical, which allows me to look past extraneous detail and perceive clearly that which others overlook."
"Told you so," Ron said taking out his deluminator and darkening the tent. He stood up walking towards the two releasing the lights back grabbing everyone's attention. "Yeah, I'm still here. But you two carry on. Don't let me spoil the fun."
"What's wrong?" Harry asked frustrated.
"Wrong? Nothing's wrong. Not according to you, anyway."
"Look, if you've got something to say, don't be shy. Spit it out."
"All right, I'll spit it out. But don't expect me to be grateful because there's another damn thing we've gotta find."
"I thought you knew what you signed up for."
"Yeah. I thought I did too."
"Well then, I'm sorry, but I don't quite understand. What part of this isn't living up to your expectations? Did you think we were gonna be staying in a hotel? Finding a Horcrux every other day? Thought you'd be back by Christmas?" Harry said getting aggressive and walking towards Ron. Hermione walked over standing by Ron's side while I stood up to stand by Harry's.
"I just thought, after all this time we would've achieved something. I thought you knew what you were doing. I thought Dumbledore told you something worthwhile. I thought you had a plan."
"I told you everything Dumbledore told me. In case you haven't noticed, we found a Horcrux."
"Yeah, and we're as close to getting rid of it as we are to finding the rest of them."
"Ron. Please, take the Horcrux off. You wouldn't be saying this if you hadn't been wearing it all day," Hermione pleaded trying to break up the fight.
"Want to know why I listen to that radio? To make sure I don't hear Ginny's name, or Fred, or George or Mom," Ron said ignoring Hermione.
"You think I'm not listening? You think I don't know how this feels?!"
"No, you don't know how it feels! Your parents are dead. You have no family."
"Ronald!" I yelled just as Harry jumped on to Ron.
"Stop! Stop!" Hermione yelled pulling Ron away as I pulled Harry back.
"Fine, then go! Go, then!" Harry yelled.
"Fine."
"Stop it, both of you, please," I said.
"And you? Are you coming or you staying?" Ron asked turning to face me, "We could leave and go with Bill and Fleur, to our family. I'm your brother-in-law now Evelyn."
"I'm not leaving Harry and neither should you."
"No, I'm done here. And you, Hermione?" Ron asked Hermione this time. She didn't reply. I could tell she wanted to go with him because she loved him but at the same time, she needs to help Harry and I.
"Fine. I get it. I saw you two the other night," Ron said before storming out."
"Ron, that's-- That's nothing," Hermione said in the urge of tears before running out after him. "Ron! Ron, where are you going? Please, come back. Ron. Ron!"
"Harry," I whispered pushing Harry down towards a seat, "Are you alright?"
"Yeah, I'm fine," He replied, still a bit aggressive.
"Don't listen to Ron, he's just mad and doesn't know what he's saying."
"Do you think he'll come back?"
"Yeah, I just know he will. He won't leave behind Hermione. Just like how I wouldn't leave you behind."
~***~
That night felt more empty and sorrowful than usual. Hermione stared into empty space whilst sitting and I laid down staring into the ceiling. Hermione looked so devastated that I couldn't even attempt to talk to her. It looked as if she had lost a part of her soul. The radio played an old song that Fleur and I used to dance to. Other than that, no other noises could be heard.
Harry walked over to Hermione putting his hand out in silence. Hermione looked up at him, taking his hand and standing up. The two began dancing strangely. Harry was never a good dancer. With the radio in my reach, I turned it up and watched them dance terribly to the music. A small smile crept on my face yet I felt so sad. They were laughing among each other in the darkest times. We're only 17 yet never really lived our lives to the fullest.
The music stopped and the temporary happiness ended. Harry and Hermione only looked at each other and I watched as their smile faded. The truth of reality striking both of them.

The Other - a (man) called Ted
A figure, large and present through time in ways most would not understand. Seemingly uncaring about all except his own principles, the one we refer to as the Other (for legitimate reasons, lest some accidentally call upon his old name), finds his way through life. Though refusing to claim the title himself, this (immortal)'s projects have begun to leave him behind, awaiting some accident to move him back into the world. - - - - - - Initially intended to be a novella, then a project to keep me sane in busy times IRL, this will be considered the roughest of drafts. Also, IRL may prevent me from regular updates after the backlog is done. Tags with a grain of salt, items may be mentioned briefly in story so far, or in chapters already written but not published. Content warnings just in case. Some perspective switching in the first several chapters. Legitimately though, in the first chapters an explanation is provided for referencing to the MC as 'the Other.'
