《Elegance | Harry Potter》Year 4-10 | Golden Egg

"Evelyn!" I was sitting in the field alone reading when I turned to see Cedric running towards me with his usual smile. His smile was so bright it brightens up my mood just by the sight of it.
"Hey Cedric"
"Why're you by yourself? Where's Harry?" He asks sitting beside me.
"Currently ignoring me because I went to the Yule Ball with Draco, Hermione and Ron had a fight and Hermione and I are just in an awkward phase"
"I'm sorry, he'll come through" I nodded.
"And how are you Cedric?"
"What do you mean?"
"Your second task, it's in two days"
"Nervous of course, still haven't figured out the clue yet. Whenever I open the golden egg, nothing, nothing but the terrible screech. Has your sister figured it out yet?"
"No idea, she's too busy snogging Roger Davis. Maybe there's a specific way to open it, like you have to open it near somewhere or cast some sort of spell"
"What would drown out the sound of the golden egg?" He asked furrowing his eyebrows.
"Under water?"
His eyes lit up in realization, "Evelyn, can you meet me at the prefect bathroom on the 5th floor in 10? Bring a spare change of robes while you're at it", before I could respond, he got up and ran out of the field towards the Hufflepuff common room.
***
I walked inside the prefect bathroom to find Cedric standing over a big bathtub in the very end of the room in his robes with the golden egg by his side. One of the many great components of being a prefect, a private gigantic bathroom all for yourself. I walked towards the bathtub to see it was already filled with bubbles in it, it smelled strongly of roses.
"Did you bring the spare change of robes I told you to?" Cedric asked, he was wearing a tank top with his name on it while I really just showed up in our uniforms.
"If I had known I would've worn something better than a skirt and a vest" I joked.

"My apologies" He said getting inside the bathtub. I followed his lead and went inside, the feeling of my vest getting soaked was uncomfortable and just not satisfying. He grabbed the golden egg from beside him and held it above the water.
"Ready?" He asks as I nod. We both take a deep breath in and go under the water. I watched as he opened the golden egg which shined another bright light and instead of the usual shrieking noise, it made a subtle humming sound.
"Come seek us where our voices sound, we cannot sing above the ground. An hour long you'll have to look to recover we we took"
The golden egg hummed in a beautiful voice. We pulled ourselves up above the water and took a breather.
"Come seek us where our voices sound, we cannot sing above the ground. So it's underwater.. Mermaids live underwater inside the black lake" I said resting my back on the bathtub.
"An hour long you'll have to look, how will I spend an hour underwater?" He asks resting his back beside me.
"The bubble charm, Fleur taught Gabrielle how to do it because she doesn't know how to swim"
"So the second task is at the black lake and to take something back from the mermaids? But what would they take?"
"I don't know, but all that matters right now is you'll be under the black lake for an hour"
"Right," He nodded with a firm expression, "thanks Evelyn"
"Anything for a friend, just don't die" He looked down and silence filled the room. Anything for a friend, a friend of course. I had no romantic feelings for Cedric, he was just a close friend of mine that I cared about, nothing more. I got up and out of the bathtub changing into a dry robe covering my wet uniform under and put my hair up into a ponytail.
"Do you think Harry knows?" I asked looking back at Cedric who just sat there thinking.
"No, I'll hint it to him after just like how he hinted the dragons for me"

"Good luck Cedric, I'll see you later" I said nodding and walked out of the bathroom.
***
I didn't show up for dinner at the great hall nor any other feasts. I just went to the Hogwarts kitchen where Dobby brought me food. After getting myself dinner I walked in the Gryffindor common room to find Ron sitting on a couch staring into the fire place.
"What's on your mind Ronald" I asked sitting beside him. He looked up at me and then back down sighing resting his head on his face.
"Hermione isn't talking to me"
"Well you daft bimbo you were a jerk to her just because she took Viktor to the Yule Ball- Aren't you a fan of him?"
"But he's our enemy!"
I smacked Ron on the shoulder, "You're just jealous"
"What? You're insane, I don't fancy her- Or Krum"
"Boys" I rolled my eyes before walking back up to the dormitories, it was empty. Not the usual chatters of gossip or Hermione getting lost in a book. The second task was tomorrow, Harry still hasn't spoken to me. On top of my bed I found a letter, one I haven't seen the last time I came here. I picked it up closely and examined it before opening the envelope revealing the letter.
Dear Evelyn,
Do not come home for summer, go to France with Fleur and Gabrielle. I fear your mother may be more than just a supporter of you know who. Hogwarts is not safe, the tri-wizard tournament has been rigged
love, dad.
My eyes widened as I finished reading the short letter. If the tri-wizard tournament really was rigged then it would be to the favor of Harry. It all makes sense, that's why his named was put into the goblet of fire. The dream Harry had, what if it is real? What he saw and heard, HIM wanting to meet Harry, what if it really is real. This tournament was set up for HIM to come find Harry. If so, every contestant was in danger, Viktor, Cedric, Fleur and Harry. I have to tell them. I quickly grabbed the envelope and headed to the first place I could think of, the Ravenclaw common room.
Outside the Ravenclaw common room I saw a blonde girl I've seen around the castle maybe once or two times. Hermione calls her Looney Lovegood supposedly because she's a little weird, but her name is Luna Lovegood.
"Hi Evelyn" The girl noticed me and turned around facing me.
"Hey, could you tell my sister Fleur I have an important message for her?" My eyes trailed down to Luna's bare feet, "And uh- what happened to your shoes if you don't mind me asking"
"Nargles" She replied in a dreamy voice before nodding and heading inside the Ravenclaw common room. What even are Nargles anyway? Soon, Fleur came out looking at me worriedly.
"What happened?" She asked. I handed her the letter and waited for her to finish reading it. She had the same reaction as me, shock, and a little disappointment finding out the tournament was rigged.
"I'll tell Madam Maxine you'll be traveling back to Beauxbatons with us" She looked up at me holding on to my arm.
"I'm staying here, I'll go to Ron's or Hermione's over the summer" She looked at me shocked. If my mother was a death eater, my dad wasn't safe either. If anything, despite dad's words, Dumbledore is the headmaster of Hogwarts so it was safe. Nothing bad will happen under his watch. If HE returns then I want to be here to protect Hogwarts and my friends from the threat.
"Evelyn! You must come with us" She pleaded putting both of her hands on my arms. I pulled away slowly looking at her with a firm expression.
"I'll be fine, someone needs to stay with dad no?"
She looked at me opening her mouth to say something, but didn't. I know she too realizes it would be bast for someone to stay with dad at least to ensure his safety.
