《Psychic》Ch26 - Buying Luck

Fan Jialuo hadn't expected that Bai Mu's answer would be so straightforward, so he chuckled and jokingly asked, "Aren't you afraid that I'm just scamming you?"
Bai Mu simply shook his head as he said resolutely, "I know you are not."
How could he doubt the other's words when he had experienced firsthand the luck given by this person? Moreover, he was willing to try even if this man was a liar-after all, he had no other way out.
Twenty brand new 100 yuan bills were spread out like a fan in front of Fan Jialuo's eyes. Looking at his wallet which only had seventy-five yuan left-seventy-five yuan with no other zeros behind it-Bai Mu was disappointed.
Obviously, when he normally headed out for the day, he would bring a certain amount of cash along with him. Not to mention the number of times he had carried more than tens of thousands of yuan, he would usually have at least five thousand yuan. How could it be that only two thousand yuan were left when he had to use it this time? Fortunately, the amount that the youth asked for could just about be covered by what he had, otherwise it would have been extremely embarrassing.
"Is two thousand enough? I can also transfer money to you by phone," asked Bai Mu hopefully.
"Two thousand is enough. I only need cash today," Fan Jialuo replied in a soft voice as his slender fingertips swept across the fan of banknotes.
Bai Mu handed over the money expressionlessly, but the depths of his eyes showed endless regret. Just how much luck can be bought with just two thousand yuan? Is it enough?
Instead of just taking the money, Fan Jialuo chuckled, "Mr. Bai really is my benefactor. He appeared just when I needed something the most."
Bai Mu shook his head and smiled bitterly. "I don't dare to be your benefactor. You must have heard about me, right?" Previously, he hadn't believed nor paid much attention to things about fate and souls, but now he had to believe in them in order to live. He was willing to try any and all methods that could possibly change his fate.
"I do know about your situation quite well, so I mean it when I say that it's my luck to have met you today. If I hadn't met you today, I would have truly been left distressed for a while." Fan Jialuo smiled softly, his clear voice sounding like sweet spring water, and gently soothing the wounded Bai Mu.
Bai Mu couldn't make sense of what the other side was saying. You're lucky to have met me?
It might have been appropriate to hear such words in the past, but hearing it now simply made Bai Mu feel even more embarrassed. Though, in addition to embarrassment, he also felt moved by the comfort and warmth that radiated from the youth. It had been a long time since he had been treated this gently.
As Bai Mu spiralled deeper into a reminiscence tinged with slight bitterness, both of Fan Jialuo's hands gently enclosed his hands, that held the twenty banknotes, as he asked in a low voice, "Are you ready?"
"What should I be ready for?" Bai Mu asked with an indescribable expression on his face.
"Ready to receive luck." Fan Jialuo's soft voice and playful chuckle lingered in Bai Mu's ears, making his heart tingle. But in the next second, he could no longer spare any thought for exploring his strange feelings-only because even stranger things started happening.

Extremely cold air poured out from his four limbs and converged in the palm of his fist, which was covered by Fan Jialuo's own hands, before drilling out of him through the pores on his hand.
Bai Mu's fingers, that held the bank notes, were frozen, and his mood turned even more inexplicable. He felt that the sudden emergence of these cold air currents was unfathomable. He simply couldn't tell whether they were real or an illusion? However, at the same time, his arms were trembling from the cold inside them. It was clear that summer was coming soon, but he seemed to have fallen into an ice cave in this instance.
In short, it could be deduced that all of this was real.
Bai Mu wanted to ask what the strange chill was, but he was afraid of interrupting the youth.
After around two or three minutes, Fan Jialuo released Bai Mu's hands and took away the two thousand yuan. He thanked him and said, "Thanks for your patronage, it's been a pleasure to meet Mr. Bai today."
"Will everything be all right now?" Bai Mu asked with a hint of incredulity.
"Yes, it'll be alright. Goodbye, Mr. Bai." Fan Jialuo rolled the banknotes into a small bundle, drawing it to his forehead as he made a gesture of farewell.
While Bai Mu was still confused, the youth had already walked far away. The yellow street lamp shone on his back dimly, like a cloud of fog that dissipated in the night.
Bai Mu stared attentively at his palms which had chilled to the bone marrow only moments before. But now, they were brimming with warmth. His expression of ignorance and anxiety was slowly replaced by ecstasy.
Since Bai Lin had left, he had clearly felt his body becoming steadily heavier and he often felt cold despite the hot summer weather. Even if he slept for seven hours every night, he would always be exhausted; his mind was in a mess-unable to think and unable to make decisions.
How did those unlucky events come about?
As a result of his final analysis, it was his own lethargy and inability to keep going that were the cause of it. If his body always remained strong and his mind always remained clear, he had more than enough ability to deal with most of the troubles he encountered in his work and life.
"It's true." Bai Mu tried to restrain his inner excitement, but still could not help the trembling in his heated hands.
His body had never felt so warm, his bones had never felt so light, and his spirit had never felt so uplifted. It was almost as if he had been bound by his own hands and feet in the past, and had been crawling and moving after being constrained by chains which had rubbed all over his body on the thorny road of life; but now, he had completely broken free from the shackles and could run as he wished.
A stream of desire rampaged within him, making Bai Mu want to howl like a wolf into the dark night. Even though the urge to do so almost overflowed, he abruptly held himself back. The youth was still close enough to hear him, and he was too ashamed to show his childish side to this person.
While Bai Mu was still in a trance, his assistant, who had driven the car over, asked hesitantly, "President Bai, should I find someone to send you back?"
Ever since Bai Lin had revealed the truth about Bai Mu's unlucky constitution and his history of being struck by constant misfortune, no one in the company dared to chauffeur him around.

"No need, I'll drive back myself." Bai Mu strode past his assistant, his beautiful face shining brightly under the streetlamp.
The assistant couldn't help but be stunned when he saw the vigorous Bai Mu. He had never seen such a vibrant side of his boss, and for a while it seemed as if the other person was a complete stranger to him.
In the past, Bai Mu had always exuded a very gloomy atmosphere. He didn't like talking or being close to others and it would be considered a miracle if one happened to see him smile.
But at that moment, the corners of his eyes and the tip of his eyebrows couldn't conceal his smiling expression and spirited mood. He was obviously hidden in the darkness of night, but it was like he was standing right under the sun, exuding a very warm and comfortable feeling.
What's wrong with President Bai? Did he win the lottery? Has the company been saved? Did he finally find enlightenment?
As the assistant opened the door for his boss, he unconsciously sat in the passenger seat.
Bai Mu sat in the driver's seat, fastened his seat belt and grasped the steering wheel with both hands.
And it was at that moment that the assistant returned to his senses and exclaimed, "Wait, President Bai, your hand is injured. I'd better find a driver for you!"
He hurried to push open the front passenger door, trying to get out of the death contraption.
Then, Bai Mu locked all the four doors and slammed his foot down on the accelerator.
The assistant's face turned white with fear. He curled his body and tightly held the back of his seat. After a few seconds, he hurried to put on his safety belt in fear that he would be sent all the way to the King Yama's Palace Hall by Bai Mu.
Seeing that the road was swiftly approaching a downhill curve, he was completely flustered and couldn't help but beg, "President Bai, just let me off on the side of this road, I'll catch a ride back by myself! President Bai, please stop here. I remember that there are still some matters that have not yet been solved regarding the construction team. I will stay at the construction site to work overtime tonight! President Bai, can you drive slower? I beg you, please!"
He folded his hands and bowed, looking very pitiful as his whole body trembled.
Bai Mu glanced at him for a moment, and the corners of his mouth cocked upwards. Although he had already slowed down, he was not ready to let him go. During normal times he preferred to stay away from others, but today he just wanted to tease this little assistant. For some inexplicable reason, he was very confident and sure of the fact that he wouldn't have an accident. He also wanted to enjoy life like a normal young man for once.
The car drove smoothly, down the steep slope, over a sharp turn, up the highway, into the toll station, and into the city. Bai Mu's superb driving skills over-an-hour long journey proved to the assistant that the rumors floating around outside were utter bullshit!
The assistant was sent home by the boss himself. He remained safe throughout the entire journey, it was not the 'evil' journey that the other employees of the company had said it would be. By the time he got out of the car, his face was burning, as if scorched by shame.
Bai Mu said goodbye with a smile, then stepped on the accelerator once more and drove away quickly. His hands were sore and numb, but his heart was flying high into the sky, wandering with the stars.

At the same time, with cold banknotes in hand, Fan Jialuo walked around Building 10 and unhurriedly reached the gate of the community. Following the gravel path, he walked up to a pavilion in the section that had been landscaped, stepped on its balustrade and climbed over the nearby rockery. Then, he threw the 2,000 yuan he had rolled into a small bundle into the grass at the foot of the rockery, after which he quietly waited, hidden in the darkness.
Around five or six minutes later, four people-three men and one woman-appeared, and sat on the stone bench shadowed by the rockery.
"Damn it, all this has exhausted this old lady! Didn't you say that Fan Jialuo lives in Building 1 of this community? Why haven't we seen him come back even after waiting for such a long time?" The woman, who was wearing heavy makeup, spoke breathlessly.
"This is the nearest path to Building 1. He will surely pass by this area! Let's wait a little longer, maybe he will be coming back soon." A young man with yellow hair comforted her in a gentle voice.
"We've been waiting for most of the night. When will he come back? Damn it, this community is too big. Just circling it is like running a marathon!" The woman threw a heavy backpack onto the ground willfully. The half-opened zipper couldn't hold back the contents within it, and they immediately scattered across the ground.
Immediately, her three companions hurriedly squatted down to gather and clean up the mess-one that shockingly consisted of prohibited items such as long knives, rope, ether spray, electric baton and so forth.
They lowered their voices and said, "Sister Qing, please be careful. We can't let anyone see these."
"Relax, I've seen that the houses here are all empty. I can't even find a ghost, let alone any humans. When I catch Fan Jialuo later, I must remember to find some men to take turns to do it. I'll make videos and sell them on the darknet.
"He's a person who easily feels shame and so he definitely won't call the police. When we run out of money, we can catch him and shoot videos again. We'll treat him as a long-term business resource. If he dares to run, this old lady will break his legs!
"Videos featuring stars are much more expensive than those of ordinary people. His reputation is so bad that, even if it's discovered, those people will surely think that he voluntarily took the plunge into this business to earn money, and it'll no longer have anything to do with us by that point," The woman excitedly struck her companion on the shoulder as she exclaimed all this.
"Is that all you can think of?" One of her companions glanced at her and asked in a tempting manner, "Do you know how much money you can get from selling a kidney?"
"How much?" The woman inquired animatedly.
"A kidney can sell for 300,000 yuan at the lowest, and a living kidney with a successful match can sell upwards of 600,000. Can you sell those videos for hundreds of thousands of yuan?" While talking, the young man poured out ether onto a handkerchief and then wrapped it carefully in a plastic bag.
"Six hundred thousand?" The woman's eyes suddenly opened wide. She couldn't even count such a number with her fingers! She then asked, "Can the heart also be sold?"
"The heart is much more expensive than the kidney. Also, the liver, lungs, pancreas, cornea, and other organs-they can all be sold. After we find a good buyer on the darknet, we will take a few samples of blood from Fan Jialuo, send it to them, and let them perform tests on the blood for compatibility and matching. If the matching is successful, we will make an unimaginable amount of money. Moreover, if he is healthy enough, then he will sell for at least seven figures in total. At that time, we won't even need to think about how to deal with the body. Someone will be more than willing to help us with the aftermath." The young man stretched out a hand and drew a number in the air.
The other three were stunned, and their eyes shone brightly with greed.
The woman spat heavily on the ground and changed her words. "Fine, let's not shoot videos, instead we'll just sell his organs directly! Who let Fan Jialuo have no eyes and kill my husband! I will certainly avenge my husband!"
In order to avoid her spit, one of the young men took a few steps back, and then suddenly exclaimed, "Sister Qing, Fourth Brother, there is a pile of money here!"

Frozenmirage: ...hahahahaha, I just wanna laugh *smirk
Qiuxue: Bai Mu sure is fast! It was only the last chapter when he married himself off and now they're holding hands?! Spicy chickens at the end though, ahaha, I'm already laughing!
Noks: FJL knows all. And what are these four gonna do with dead organs (since FJL seems like a living corpse so far), if they even managed to get them in the first place? Silly and stupid opportunists...

Book 1 is now available on Kindle, or in paperback/hardcover! You can buy it here! Jack crash-landed on a planet where the natives are seven-foot-tall carnivorous cat-lizards currently somewhere between stone and bronze age. The bad news is they just left one of their own as a sacrifice to appease the beast. No matter what Jack and his AI co-pilot decide, his life just got a lot more complicated... ATTENTION: This is soft sci-fi rather than hard sci-fi, hence why I chose that tag. For those of you unfamiliar with the distinction, here's what Wikipedia had to say. 1. It explores the "soft" sciences, and especially the social sciences (for example, anthropology, sociology, or psychology), rather than engineering or the "hard" sciences (for example, physics, astronomy, or chemistry). 2. It is not scientifically accurate or plausible; the opposite of hard science fiction. Soft science fiction of either type is often more concerned with character and speculative societies, rather than speculative science or engineering. The term first appeared in the late 1970s and is attributed to Australian literary scholar Peter Nicholls.
