《Psychic》Ch10 - Bad Luck Isn't Always Bad Luck

Master Zhou was one of the most renowned Feng Shui Masters in China. If even someone of his caliber couldn't solve the problems that plagued Moon Bay Garden Community, other masters would be just as, if not more, helpless. Master Zhou had clearly told Bai Mu that unless he had the ability to move mountains and fill the sea, Moon Bay Garden Community's feng shui could not be changed. This was not a problem that could be solved by human and financial resources, it could be done only through divine power.
Bai Mu led his subordinates back to the gate of the community. Looking at the community once again only served to emphasize just how helpless and pathetic he felt. This project had originally been proposed by him. When the design renderings had been published, he had been praised by countless people.
The villa area, to be built in the fourth phase of the project, was situated by the lake at the foot of the mountain. This landscape looked spectacular and was very beautiful, so these plots had been quickly snatched away by the more wealthy people, even before construction had begun. What great visions he had had at that time, but how could he have imagined that, in only half a year, he would have fallen to such a point?
Bai Mu's eyes dimmed, but his expression remained calm. After turning away, he ordered, "Return to the company for a meeting."
"Mr. Bai, the feng shui here can't be changed. What should we do about the next phases of the project?" A deputy general manager asked anxiously.
"We'll discuss it at the meeting." Bai Mu's words contained an undeniable sense of dignity. He could see that his subordinates' hearts were already in turmoil.
Several other deputy general managers opened their mouths, wanting to speak but, after hesitating for a bit, they didn't say a word. Just then, a not-so-smiling voice was heard from a distance. "Bai Mu, long time no see! How are you doing recently?"
When everyone turned to look at the person who had just spoken, their facial expressions at that time could only be described as somewhat ugly. Everyone was aware that the Dingsheng International Company was facing a crisis currently. The group of people present were well-acquainted with this person's, Bai Lin's, wanton behavior. He was an adopted son of the Bai Family. He had grown up with Bai Mu. The two of them had almost always been in the same class from kindergarten to high school to university, where they had even completed their graduate studies together, never being far away from each other. Then, even after graduation, they had worked together in the Bai Corporation.
Father Bai and Mother Bai had treated Bai Lin as if he was their own son. What Bai Mu had, he too would have, and never was one favored over the other. To be adopted by the Bai Family was Bai Lin's greatest fortune. If he had understood the meaning of gratitude, he would have been filial to his parents and would have helped Bai Mu in matters related to the company. But from a certain point onwards, his ambition had become uncontrollable, and he had embezzled vast amounts of company property by taking undue advantage of his elevated position.
If it hadn't been for Bai Mu's high vigilance, Dingsheng International might have been hollowed out by Bai Lin. Bai Mu hired the best accountants and lawyers in the world to audit and investigate all of the company's accounts. After receiving the conclusion from the investigation, Bai Mu felt very disappointed with what his brother had done. His initial intention was to hand over all the evidence to the police so that they could file a case, but both Father and Mother Bai resolutely stopped him. Instead, they called Bai Lin back to reprimand him, and destroyed the evidence in his presence, ultimately conveying that the Bai Family would no longer be so kind to him in the future, all in an effort to make him repent.

However, Bai Mu knew Bai Lin would not repent, and that his evil intentions would only intensify. Sure enough, once the evidence of his crimes was destroyed, Bai Liu turned hostile toward Father and Mother Bai on the spot. He took the money he had embezzled to set up his own business, and left behind an extremely ridiculous sentence - if you want to keep your son's life, give me all the of Bai Family's property in exchange!
At that time, Bai Mu was angry and just laughed at him. He became even more determined to break off any relationship he had with Bai Lin. However, Father and Mother Bai paled upon this declaration of his and were hesitant. It was also on that night that Bai Mu discovered his fate was very special. There were gaps and omissions in his four pillars of destiny, in all of his five elements, and his Yin and Yang were also not in harmony. He had to stay in an incubator soon after he was born, due to being tortured by various illnesses, and grew up with much difficulty. Even after growing up, he always encountered various dangers, all of which were fatal.
Legend had it that a sip of cold water could crack your teeth, and such was life for Bai Mu.
Later, it wasn't known from where Father and Mother Bai had found a Taoist priest to change their son's fate, but his situation gradually improved.
The Taoist priest gave Bai Mu a pendant consisting of a piece of clear jade for safety and sent Bai Lin back to the Bai household. He said that, although Bai Lin's fate was not good, the missing parts from Bai Mu's four pillars of destiny could be substituted by his fate. As long as they stayed together at all times, Bai Mu could live a peaceful life. Since then, the myriad of dangers no longer sought Bai Mu, and Bai Lin also settled down in the Bai Family. He was obviously the Bai Family's adopted son, but in fact, he had another role- as Bai Mu's human pillar, supporting the other's precarious life.
Bai Lin had been adopted when he was only two and a half years old, so he hadn't been aware of any of these secrets. But he gradually began to remember things after his sixth birthday, and slowly understood his actual circumstances, though he pretended to be unaware of it all. In the beginning, after he had first comprehended his position in the Bai Family, he had been afraid of being abandoned. As time flew by, he realized that Father and Mother Bai treated him with sincerity, so he gradually opened up and treated them as family in return.
However, when he turned 15 or 16 years old, Bai Lin entered the social circle of the upper class, and came to the realization that although there was only a one word difference between being an adopted son and a biological son, the treatment the two received was far from the same. No matter how excellent he was, as long as he stood beside Bai Mu, he would be reduced to simply being the other person's foil. Bai Mu was the real pride of heaven, and he was nothing.
He didn't know when he had started to become more and more hostile towards Bai Mu. Driven by evil thoughts and some curiosity, he found an excuse to leave Bai Mu's side and played outside for a day and night. In the span of that one day and night, Bai Mu got involved in a car accident. If Father and Mother Bai had not found Bai Lin in time and brought him to Bai Mu's ward, perhaps by now, the grass on Bai Mu's grave would have been several meters high.

When Bai Lin entered the ward and saw the sharply beeping heart monitor suddenly calm down upon his arrival, and then when he saw the way his parents were looking at him-as if they were holding onto their last life-saving straw-and begging him to not leave Bai Mu in the future, his restless heart suddenly exploded in joy, and ecstasy and pride ran through his blood. It turned out that he was not actually an adopted son, but was instead Bai Mu's master. This man's fate had always been in his hands. If he wanted him to live, he would live. If he wanted him to die, then he could only die!
That day was the day Bai Mu had closely encountered and escaped death, and it became the happiest day in Bai Lin's life. Bai Lin no longer had to lament, tremble, or take every step with caution. He began to plunder everything he could, taking the Bai Family for granted, up until half a year ago, when Bai Mu had expelled him from the company for the crime of embezzlement.
Bai Lin was angry, because he truly believed that Bai Mu was just a tool for him to use to make money. What right did he have to resist? How dare he even resist? So, he decided to teach Bai Mu a profound lesson, and the outcome of that lesson when reflected in reality satisfied him greatly. Without him, Bai Mu's misfortune did not only affect the person himself, but also the people closest to him.
Half a month after Bai Lin left, Grandfather Bai suffered a heart attack at home and passed away. Another half month later, Father and Mother Bai were killed in a car accident. And it was in the midst of these events that Bai Mu hurriedly took over the Bai Corporation. At first, the several projects that he invested in were smooth, but later, they encountered difficulties one after another, and he knew that if this trend continued, it wouldn't be long before the Dingsheng International Company was dragged into a quagmire.
Bai Lin, who had long regarded the Bai Family's vast fortune as his own possession, could no longer watch idly, so he had appeared in Moon Bay Garden Community, ready to talk to Bai Mu. But he hadn't expected Bai Mu to not pay him any attention at all, and head straight for his car instead.
Bai Lin blocked Bai Mu's way and sneered, "Do you want more people to know about your broken stuff?" Then, he looked meaningfully at the several deputy general managers who were surrounding them.
Bai Mu was thoroughly disgusted by this person, but he still led the other to a secluded spot and asked in a deep voice, "What do you want to talk about?"
"Didn't Mom and Dad tell you when they were dying? You can't live a day without me," said Bai Lin, smiling rather complacently all the while.
"You don't deserve to call them your parents. Even without you, I have lived well in the past six months." Bai Mu's hands, which were hidden in his trouser pockets, had long since been fisted, but on the surface, he still appeared to be calm. He was willing to bow to anyone for the sake of the Bai Family's foundation, but the one sole exception to that was Bai Lin, whom he would never compromise with.
"Is that so?" Bai Lin pointed to the red thread hanging around Bai Mu's neck, and taunted, "Don't pretend, I know you could only survive up till now because of this jade pendant. I heard from Sister Liu that, just yesterday, your jade pendant broke. It can't protect you anymore, can it? Otherwise, as an atheist, why would you invite Master Zhou to change the feng shui of this place? You've had several accidents and have gone to the hospital many times during this half year. Do you want me to count them all for you? If you want to live, you should give up the President's seat and transfer all your shares to me."
Bai Mu just looked at the other with undisguised mockery in his eyes, as if he was looking at a jumping clown. Not even mentioning the fact that he was still alive, even if he was dead, the Bai Corporation would always be surnamed Bai.
"Bai Mu, I am giving you face but you're rejecting it, aren't you? Believe it or not, you will have an accident today! Without me, you will choke to death even when drinking water!" Bai Lin gritted his teeth in anger, and then, to the several deputy general managers waiting nearby, he declared, "I'd like to give you all a piece of advice. From now on, you'd better not ride in the same car as Bai Mu. He is the reincarnation of the broom star and will bring doom to everyone around him. Have you forgotten how our grandfather and parents died? Have you not witnessed how all the projects of the company are facing crises? Sooner or later, even just following him will cause your deaths!"
Bai Lin's words successfully managed to sow seeds of panic among these people. Indeed, in the past six months, Dingsheng International Company's fortune had been extremely bad. What to invest in, what to get, what to do-each and every action had failed to produce a good result, to the extent that even the Financial Department dared not to produce accounting reports. But, in comparison, the Bai Family's luck was even worse. Grandfather Bai, Father Bai and Mother Bai had died one after the other, it was as if they had been cursed.
And following this very line of thought, one could simply look at the Moon Bay Garden Community and its plethora of issues. There were so many problematic feng shui patterns here, all converging at this single location, all of them issues that had been both unseen and unheard of prior to this project. If it was just a matter of ordinary bad luck, who would ever meet such a situation? The more they thought about it, the more their expressions twisted, and the more they believed Bai Lin's words.
The driver who was about to open the car door for Bai Mu stood frozen in place, his belief in Bai Lin's proclamation being one hundred percent. It turned out that this was the reason why he had been able to keep his job, even though he had encountered more than ten car accidents within this month alone. It was not that his driving technique was excessively bad, but that President Bai's luck was too terrible! If he drove for such a person, it was only a matter of time before he ended up dead!
A few drops of cold sweat fell from the driver's forehead, and he was hesitant about whether or not he should resign on the spot. But in that short moment, Bai Mu had bypassed him and seated himself in the driver's seat, closed the door, stepped on the accelerator and quickly sped away. His face was as frigid as a piece of cold iron, and his heart even harder than that. In the past, he had never believed in fate, but after sending off his loved ones, he could only resign himself and face up to this cruel reality. However, if this meant that he would be forced to kneel at Bai Lin's feet to survive, he would rather just die.
He had already written his will. If he died, all the assets of the Bai Family and the Bai Corporation would be donated to charity. Except for the debts that remained, Bai Lin would receive nothing.
But, Bai Mu was really unwilling to die just yet. He had so many ambitions that had not yet been fulfilled and so many wishes that had yet to be realized. To think that his life had already been preordained to end in such an absurd and tragic way the moment he had been born. If only he had died of the illness that had afflicted him soon after his birth; in that way, at least his grandpa, father and mother would not have been affected by his misfortune and would not have lost their lives so early.
Bai Mu had sunk into deep contemplation and had forgotten to release the accelerator, so much so that the speed of the car steadily increased-it became faster and faster. The Moon Bay Garden Community was located on a hillside, and the only way back into the city was to go downhill. Even if Bai Mu had good luck, he would still encounter danger when driving too fast.
Bai Lin knew that Bai Mu had written a will. Seeing him be so determined to face death made him indescribably angry. He didn't expect Bai Mu's bones to be so hard that he would resist handing over the Bai Family's assets even after understanding the reason behind all these complications.
The deputy general managers who had accompanied Bai Mu were also in a hurry as they drove to catch up to his car.
There were several curves on the mountain road, and even a single moment of negligence could cause a major accident. The deputy general managers behind Bai Mu were thoroughly confused. During the journey, they had almost collided with the oncoming vehicles several times, but Bai Mu's car had easily managed to avoid these dangers one by one, and was able to smoothly return to the city and drive into the Bai residence.
At the Bai residence, the cars of the deputy general managers had been stopped by the heavy iron gate, while Bai Mu's speeding car was parked safely in the Bai residence's private garage.
Looking at the disappearing rear lights of Bai Mu's car, one of the deputy general managers stretched his head out of his car window and angrily said, "Who said that President Bai is a broom star? There were several of us who were driving so carefully, yet we still almost died. The President drove so fast but nothing happened at all! In fact, I think he's very lucky!"
"Isn't it all just Bai Lin's alarmist talk. Can we really believe his words? Let's return, President Bai is upset today. Let's not disturb him."
The several cars drove away one after another, and finally, Bai Lin, who had arrived at the gate at last, was shocked speechless to learn that Bai Mu had reached the Bai residence safely. Was the man driving just now really the same man he had left 24 hours ago, who, in that space of time, had suffered all kinds of accidents, and had to be sent multiple times to the hospital for emergency rescue? It had to have been faked!

World of Alvarra: Rise of the Vampire Lord
Van was born a dhampir with memories of past lives that plague him. If he does not overcome them, he may face a slow descent into insanity. Growing up in a world where the memories of his past lives, clash with the truth of this strange new world. A world where women outnumber men to a large margin and are in control. Filled with magic, ki, aura, and creatures from other dimensions trying to break into his world to devour it. Will Van survive and thrive and make sense of it all? This is a story where I’m hoping to take some things and put them on its head. Everyone has heard of isekai about now, but has anyone ever really contemplated what it would be like to have voices, visions, or archaic ideas and views swim around a person's mind? We also hear about how the mc’s always gets the harem. But what if that's because there are more women than men and women are somewhat biologically different then the women we know from our world. Imagine a society where anyone can become strong and since there are more women than men, there are more stronger women than stronger men and now apply medieval history and a view that men are lower than women because the goddess made women in her image. And what if, the mc isn’t the only one with memories of past lives, and he meets some people who have been driven insane because of it? This is my first time writing a book and showing it to potential thousands of people. I won’t promise that my work will be good right off the bat. But I'm hoping that, with enough constructive criticism, I can provide an interesting read for all comers and improve to match and exceed the expectations put on me. The image used above does not belong to me. Warning! There is blood, gore, sex, and rape!(not anymore...) I may not be a good writer yet, but I will try to give a more realistic and authentic view of this world. This world and what you know of it will be of the view of the mc. So if something does not make sense to you, it probably does not to the mc ethier. Finally. For the sex or smut, scenes. I will hide them under spoiler. But you should not have to worry about it until somewhere around chapter nineteen or twenty, so if you don’t want to continue reading a book with sex, stop there. I will also be putting an NSFW sign in the chapter heading to warn people ahead of time. (all sex scenes will now be moved to my Patreon and scribblehub.) Thank you for reading and please help me become the writer I am hoping to be as well as the writer you all deserve to read from.
