《Psychic》Ch4 - Death is Only The Beginning

The capital city was huge. After an entire day of driving around outside, Fan Jialuo had only managed to visit a small part of it. This city was totally different from what he remembered. There were many high-rise buildings everywhere. Some with strange shapes, some hundreds of meters high, and some affixed with glazed glass, dyed in gold or bright red colors by the afterglow of the sunset. They were magnificent, and it was almost like a fairyland.
He drove the car to a park, climbed the highest hill and quietly watched the city, waiting for the scattered sunset to be taken away by the night. When the stars appeared, he blinked his dry eyes, and finally made his way back to his apartment.
The house was empty, without even a bottle of water. The Fan Family had frozen all the assets of the original owner, leaving him with only this house. In other words, the present Fan Jialuo had become a penniless pauper. If there was no relief, he would starve to death. Of course, this was without mentioning that he also had to compensate for the high liquidated damages faced by the company on his contracts. Where to go in the future and what to live on-this was really quite a big problem.
He opened the refrigerator and scrutinised it with interest. Stretching his hand out, he felt the cold temperature inside. His bright eyes revealed his inner curiosity. He had never seen such a thing, or rather, this era and everything in this city; he was surrounded by novelties that he had never seen nor experienced and would never have imagined.
He studied the double door refrigerator and picked up a spatula to scrape at the white frost in the freezer. After completely satisfying his curiosity, he took out the plastic mold within, and began to make a large number of ice cubes. Then he lazily nested himself on the sofa to watch several films. When midnight struck, he took out the ice cubes, poured them into a bucket, and carried them to the bathroom. He removed his clothes and inspected his back using the mirror. It was covered with bruises from when Sun Ying had pushed him hard against the wall. The color of the bruises was a disturbing deep purple, and it was still spreading.
It was hard to avoid pain with such extensive bruising, but when he reached out with his fingertips to press against his back, his expression still looked so flat-as if he felt nothing. The area he pressed on didn't immediately rebound, instead it sank into a small depression, which was clearly abnormal.
After a moment, he filled the tub with cold water and proceeded to pour the bucket of ice into it. The temperature of the ice-water mixture had reached zero degrees, and although an average person might scream from its coldness, Fan Jialuo laid quietly under the cold water and fell asleep.
As he himself had said, it was not a body, it was a vessel. In the past, when the vessel was nearing collapse, there would always be ghosts and spirits around for it to devour, which would allow it to maintain a basic functioning level of physiological activities. But now, this operating mechanism has failed. If he didn't hurry and find a solution, the vessel would sooner or later rot into a pile of skeletons.
The pitiful original Fan Jialuo had been arrogant for a lifetime, but had never thought about why his sub-personalities were different from those of 'normal' multiple personality patients. Why were they not born from a situation where the master needed to be protected or escape from a dangerous situation? Instead, they somehow just appeared and disappeared inexplicably.

In the past 20 years, countless 'sub-personalities' had been swallowed up by this vessel, and countless 'sub-personalities' had been added in that same timeframe, making the original Fan Jialuo wholly unaware of this fact. The body had grown slowly until finally becoming what it was currently.
The icy water froze the body, down to its blood and bones. Fortunately, this also meant that the diffusion rate of those terrible deep purple bruises also slowed down.

Fan Jialuo fell into deep sleep again. During this time, various troublesome events spread across the internet. This all steamed first from some netizens compiling and editing together a video using footage from all entertainment activities STARS has attended in the past. In one frame Gao Yize and Sun Ying could be seen taking good care of Fan Jialuo, frequently advising him to be more restrained and careful.
Then, in an interview, Gao Yize could be seen saying, with a pampering expression, "When I go out, I'm most worried about Jialuo. He's a little childish. I don't know when he will grow up. Whether our group can last for a long time or not, it doesn't depend on me as a leader, but on our Jialuo! He is the core of our group."
Sun Ying also said at a roadshow: Fan Jialuo is full of tantrums, but he is very honest and lovely.
"I will guide him well. It's my duty as a brother. The three of us will get better together." Sun Ying said this sentence firmly, and then smiled heartily.
Summing it all up, the picture of the harmonious scene between the three was very touching. Moreover, Gao Yize and Sun Ying not only loved Fan Jialuo, but also sought to guide him well. However, Fan Jialuo's character was already rotten to the core, and their efforts were futile.
After watching these revelations, the fans of STARS were upset, and left comments expressing that the two brothers were very good and worthy of all they had now. They asked the netizens to attack only the one in the wrong-Fan Jialuo-and to not implicate the other two, who were completely innocent.
Following this, Xinghui Entertainment Company immediately released a piece of black material which showed the dispute and even the fight that took place between Fan Jialuo and his team members, Gao Yize and Sun Ying. In these photos and the video clip, every word out of Fan Jialuo's mouth was harsh, and his face was full of arrogance as he asked his fellow STARS members to obey him unconditionally and not to steal his limelight. The two being threatened could only yield, and although there was anger on their faces, there was no resentment. It could be seen that they were willing to serve as a foil for him.
Simultaneously, several recordings were also released. In these recordings, Fan Jialuo could be heard arrogantly saying that STARS could only become what they were today by relying on his support. Without him, Gao Yize and Sun Ying were not even worth a fart. If the two of them made him unhappy, he would immediately go solo with all the resources and return the two wastes to their original form.
There was a sharp contrast portrayed by the two pieces of news. Gao Yize and Sun Ying were broad-minded, responsible and upright, while Fan Jialuo was a petty person with a twisted character who showed no respect to others, all in all, he was just not a good person.
After that, Xinghui Entertainment Company bought a large water army to further guide the public opinion, so soon, in addition to the slogan of 'Scum Fan Jialuo, get out of the entertainment circle', the title 'The distressed two brothers' also occupied the top position of the hot search list for a long time.

After some work here and there, Gao Yize and Sun Ying not only did not lose their fans, but also won the favor of the passerby fans due to their modesty, and their polite, frank and honest style. From that point, they officially jumped to being a front-line celebrity.
As before, not once did Fan Jialuo appear, let alone reply or make any comments on social media. He seemed to have given up on his life and was willing to be the cannon fodder in this public opinion war, and seemed to be sending his two teammates to Qingyun by contrasting them against his dirty reputation.
A week later, after soaking in the bathtub, Fan Jialuo finally woke up. He squinted his eyes and took a long time before he recalled where he currently was. He wiped the water off his face, and slowly rose up to look at his back in the mirror. Those purple bruises were still there, their color had not faded at all. Currently, they had even climbed down to his waist. There was no medicine that could cure them, and their spread could only be slowed down by physically freezing that part of the body.
However, even upon seeing such a terrible injury, Fan Jialuo was neither worried nor flustered. He dried himself, dressed himself in his pajamas and walked leisurely over to the living room to watch TV. The noise of the TV made the empty room appear full of life, in stark contrast to the empty refrigerator.
It had been a week, and it was evidently not normal for him to be able to function so well without eating or drinking. But, apart from heaven and earth, who else would know that?
The cell phone had turned off automatically from lack of power. So, after searching for a long time, he found a charger in a drawer in the cloakroom and then set it up to charge. Just after the device had turned on, the start-up background tune was followed by a barrage of jingling notification alerts. WeChat, Weibo, YouTube, and various social apps downloaded onto the phone were now filled with notifications and messages consisting of all kinds of insulting words.
He looked down at his cell phone with a dull expression, completely undisturbed by the overflowing malice. Coincidentally, at this same moment, Gao Yize published a long post on Weibo to apologize to the public in Fan Jialuo's place, and sincerely wrote- My brother is still young and it's inevitable that he would make mistakes, so please forgive him. I believe that this incident has taught him enough lessons, so he will now grow better. Please give him another chance to correct himself. He will be better in the future.
The number of clicks on this post reached a staggering count in just an instant, but its effect was the complete opposite. Instead of forgiving Fan Jialuo, the netizens began to curse him even more crazily. In contrast, Gao Yize's popularity had upgraded, and now he had even managed to hit the milestone of 30 million fans. He's become a big hit!
If Fan Jialuo was the typical example of a person with no virtue, then Gao Yize was the role model for the new generation of idols. He was generous, honest, kind, sincere and faithful-clearly almost all the good qualities could be found in him.
The fans loved him to the point of madness.
Within a few minutes, Sun Ying forwarded the message and @Fan Jialuo, hoping that he would take the initiative to stand up and bear the consequences for his own mistakes by taking responsibility.
Seeing Weibo once again being occupied by indignant netizens, Fan Jialuo raised his eyebrows and suddenly appeared a little interested. Then, stretching out a finger, he slowly poked out a line of words- [Death is only the beginning of destruction, so don't go too high...]
He didn't @ anyone, as he didn't know what the strange symbol was used for, and he didn't care enough to bother to search for its function in his memory. In any case, he had said what he wanted to say, and the people who should see would see it. Not surprisingly, his first post was immediately attacked by netizens:
[Death is the beginning of destruction, isn't this a threat? Hello, 110? I want to call the police!]
[Other people are so popular that they don't care about your goddamn things. Do you need to say such sour words?]
[It's red. Full of envy! Don't go up? People will not only rise, but also to a place you won't be able to reach even in your lifetime!]
[Sure enough, he will never know how to write the words 'repentance'!]
A vast number of netizens were boiling mad and swore to eagerly tear up the bitch Fan Jialuo with their bare hands!
Because there were so many people cramming into the Weibo comment section to abuse Fan Jialuo, the web page lagged for a brief moment, but the person who had posted had already put down his mobile phone, dressed in his casual clothes, disguised himself, and walked out with his car keys. He first strolled around the city for a while, only to later enter a high-end night club, where he sat down in the most prominent position to drink.
Fan Jialuo took off his hat and mask, thereby revealing his beautiful face, but the people who visited the club were all dignified people, and would not pay attention to a little star who had fallen. Ordering a colorful cocktail, he held it in his hand and swirled it in a circular motion, but didn't take a sip of it for a long time. Upon seeing the clock hanging on the wall slowly move its hands from 7:30 to 9:00, he simply put down his glass and left in a leisurely manner.
The bartender didn't ask Fan Jialuo to settle the bill, because his club membership card still had a little balance remaining in it, which would be enough to cover for the cost of the drink. Although the Fan Family had cut off all his connections, thus leaving him with no way out, they would not be so diligent that they would even freeze this small amount of money. However, the waiter glared at his back, as if dissatisfied with his stingy behavior of not giving any tips.
As Fan Jialuo was about to leave the club, he suddenly looked up at the camera hidden in a corner of the ceiling. His red lips were slightly hooked, and his smile looked eerily strange and treacherous. In the next second, he put on his hat and mask and slowly walked away. After a while, a red sports car roared past the entrance to the club and merged into the brightly lit river of lights.
At the same time, in a business district in Beijing, a shrill scream broke against the muted night sky. "Ahhhhh! Bad, it's bad, someone jumped off the building!"
"Someone jumped from the building. Go and take a look!" The crowd surged to the windows.
"Brother Cao, that man's clothes look the same as Ze Ge's!" Sun Ying, who was standing on the fourth floor and looking down, suddenly showed a panicked expression.
...
Noks: You went too high, Gao Yize. You should have listened to the MC *shakes head*. He he he.

Decompose!
Dear diary. When you read stories about some people missing and returning after years of absence claiming they were living in another world, your first reaction is to scoff and dismiss a story as a tall tale, right? I know I did. All the time. Until it happened to me and I no longer did. That day was today. Some god of thunder smote me. If it were Chris Hemsworth, I wouldn't mind but it was some barbaric Hitite god that abaondned Earth some four millennia ago. Yes, what can I say? I love the seventh art. I have more hours watching movies than any other activity, including sleep. What? Do you think I'm exaggerating? Maybe I am. I'll really miss hollywood the most. And my biggest regret is that I never got to visit the holy city of cinema. I did not come to another world to be a hero even though there was hints that they hoped I'd save it. I did not come with overpowered abilities able to, dunno, leap tall castles in a single bound, faster than a speeding crossbow bolt, be more powerful than a eight-horse carriage, the bounds. No. After the asshole god that murdered me brought me to his world, he gave me some boons from his discount bin and "The Power of my Soul (tm)". Forgive my french, I hope you understand I am rather upset at dying. And he somehow decided that my power is to recycle stuff. How awesome is that? Not much at first, I must admit. At least I got all my camping stuff and equipment with me. There's no lycra in the other world. I'll make it someday, but that day is not today. So here I am. In another world, in the middle of nowhere. I'm no heroine. As the song goes, I'm your basic average girl. And I'm assumed to be here to save the world. But almost everything can stop me, because I'm not named Kim. Wish me luck, diary. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ This novel is going have the following features: slow-paced slice-of-life No GameLit / LitRPG elements. Movie references. Sandra likes the seventh art. Journal / diary style crafting (includes chemistry, engineering and metallurgy) low magic technological advancement (for Sandra, at least. She is not against sharing though) personal relations clash of perception between the modern and ancient customs. bits of tension, fighting, and plot here and there. I won't repeat myself though. Once she crafts a good batch of soap, for example, she'll just note, "I crafted soap again." Once it is estabilished how she obtains compound X, compound X2 that is obtainable from the same process will also just be mentioned. I'll try to be as realistic as I can with the crafting, chemistry, and technology. Cover: Public Domain Image by StockSnap from Pixabay. No attribution required but we do it anyway.
