My phone buzzed as I received another message from Jessie. He was in the area and wanted to speak but I was tired after swimming for so long. After Evander left me I was angry so I threw myself back into the pool. It was probably after lunch when I finished shower and changed into my white tank top and shorts.

When I woke up this morning, it was obvious who brought me to my room. I knew he remained near after he left the bar because I focused on his scent. His scent wasn't easy for me to locate now that we were rejected mates.

I blow-dried my hair with Kira's blow dryer before I found nothing else to do and finally decided to reply to Jessie.

Reply me :(

I'll kick your ass when I see you.

Ugh, I have to handle this bloody Alpha. Give me a sec.

My eyes widened as I read that line. He was in the area of the golden cove pack. That couldn't be Evander, right?

What alpha?

I waited a long two minutes for him to reply and when he doesn't, I bolted out the door. "Lucas!" I shout as I run down the stairs. Lucas froze and wait for me. "Where is Evander?" I asked him. His eyebrows furrow but he answered me anyways," he is taking care of a vampire issue on the southern border."

Shit shit shit.

"Thank you!" I shout as I run out of the house. I ran through the streets until I finally reached the woods. Branches and dead leaves crunched under my foot as I ran, using White's powers to help me run faster.

The second I crossed the border, I smell Jessie and Lexi followed by Evander's scent as I pushed past more trees. Finally, Evander was in sight. I couldn't believe my eyes, Evander had his claws in the familiar person's chest ready to kill.

"No!" I growled and ran to protect her. He was about to rip her heart out. I can't let Jessie go through that pain. My head snapped to the sound of a trigger being pulled. Across from them was Jessie holding a gun pointed at Evander's chest. "Jessie! No!" I screamed as I bolted across the field just in time to be in front of Evander. The bullet shot into my left shoulder.

"Rieka!" I hear Jessie scream. "No!" Evander shout and I hear the sound of a body dropping. Which was Lexi's since she was in his hold. The pain struck through my body but it was a bearable one and I knew it would go away. I reached into my shoulder, using my two fingers, and pulled out the bullet, throwing it on the ground. "You're going to pay for that, Vampire," Evander promised Jessie as he stalked in his direction.

I pushed his chest, ignoring the tingles. His dark and hooded eyes looked at me. "Hey, I'm fine," I whispered and pulled my tank top aside so he could see that the wound was already healed. Evander relaxed, his eyes slowly slipping back into his warm brown ones. My eyes snapped to Jessie behind us. Anger in his eyes with his gun still pointed at Evander.

"Jess, no," I ordered and his eyes snapped to me as I walked to his girlfriend. Lexi was gasping as she backed away from Evander further into the tree. She was on the verge of death and was consumed with fear. "Lex, it's me," I whispered. Her eyes snapped to me but she was still pale and shivering. I brought out my canines and bit into the inside of my wrist before shoving it to her mouth. "What are you doing?" Evander asked softly, shocked to see what I was doing. Lexi grabbed onto my hand as I felt more of my blood being sucked out.

Vampires can't stomach wolf blood for long but it would still heal her. "Tell me why I shouldn't kill him, kiki," Jessie demanded, his jaw clenched, and was set on killing the man that tried to kill his lover. Lexi pushed my hand away and wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. "Thank you," I hear her mumble as we both pushed ourselves off the ground. Evander growled, ready to pounce put I wrapped my hand around his wrist just in time. Lexi ran into his arms. Relief and happiness flood through his eyes as he pulled his love protectively to his side, the gun fixed on Evander.

"Calm down boys," I ordered, glaring at the two angry men. One behind me and one in front of me. "Kiki, he attacked her!" Jessie screamed, having a hard time controlling himself. "Love, I'm alright," I hear Lexi assured him, holding onto his jaw to force him to look into her eyes. "What the bloody hell is going on, Jess? Why didn't you tell me about this?" My eye raging at Jessie.

"Rieka, you better start talking," Evander whispered, snaking a hand around my waist and pulling my back flush against his chest and I feel myself calm down. White whimpers that our mate was so close but he isn't our mate anymore. Jessie visually calmed down. "What are you doing with the Alpha, Rie? Do you know what he did?" Lexi spoke, disappointment in her house as she clenched her fists.

"What are you talking about?" I asked them and turned my head to look at Evander but he was blank, not letting me read any emotions off of him. "He has Chansler Sparrow, locked in his dungeon!"

I froze, dropping my grip on his hand," what?" I whispered, shaking my head in denial," he's dead." I wanted to believe in any possibility that he was actually alive. "Why the hell would she care about a stupid vampire? He is better off dead anyway," Evander hissed as his grip tightened around my waist before pulling me closer to him. "He's alive?" I asked Evander. "Yes, he is and I have an explanation why he is held captive although it is shitty," Evander told me, placing his hand on my cheek. I have been trapped by his mesmerizing eyes but on the inside, I couldn't believe that he was alive. Evander had him all this time. This doesn't make any sense because he was killed. "I need..." I was having trouble with my words before the sound of the trigger being locked caused us to train our eyes on Jessie. "Tell me what the hell is going on, Kiki," Jessie demanded again. This time Lexi was also on his side because she also wanted to know. "He's my mate, Jess, you can't hurt him because I will hurt you," I say, glaring my wolf eyes at him. "Why are you working with the enemy?" Evander whispered to me.

"They're my family, Evan. If you hurt them, I would never speak to you again, clear?" I strictly tell him, pointing my index finger into his chest. Evander's jaw clenched as he stared at me, I wondered what he was thinking. His eyes flicked to the couple before settling back on me. I watch as he nods his head.

"I need to see him, now," I demanded. Evander nods once before stepping away but linking our fingers.
