《Blondie》Chapter 35

That girl could not be anymore perfect. I thought that every time that she did even the smallest thing, but every time I was proven wrong again.

One thing about the Millers that you might not know is that we are competitive as all hell. Our family's philosophy is that everything can be turned into a game that can be won. RIght now for instance, what had started as Lili asking my aunt and uncle how they met, turned into the newlywed game.

The problem with the newlywed game is that you need three couples. And instead of picking the obvious choice of the three couples that were married, it somehow ended up being, Rachel and Darren, Tia Vanessa and Tio Oscar, as well as Lili and I. With only minimal preparation my cousins had come up with a very authentic looking list of questions and our certified scorekeeping board.

Each of the immediate families sat in front of the couples as Ben pulled out the list of questions we were going to be asked. I sat with my back to Lili, facing Rachel as he read the first question. "Where did you two meet?" he asked in his best game show host voice.

I took my pen and jotted down the answer. I knew that he was starting us out with easy ones on purpose.

"DR?" he asked, referring to Darren and Rachel.

"A concert," they said at the same time. Our family clapped for them and Ben added a point to the DR category.

"LJ?" he inquired.

"A party," Lili and I said in sync.

I smiled at her answer. Without looking I stuck my hnd down by her chair and she slapped it. A celebratory low-five.

"VO?" Ben prompted.

"A salsa club," Vanessa and Oscar said at the same time. When they got it right they turned to face each other and they smiled. The look that they shared was even sweeter than a kiss.

"That was too easy," Julia complained. "Skip ahead to the hard ones."

"Let's not get ahead of ourselves," Darren laughed skeptically. "Rachel and I have only been married for five years."

Contrary to Darren, Lili said, "Josh and I have only been dating for a month," she reminded him. She turned back to Ben, "bring it on, Josh and I can take it."

My twin and my mother mother cheered for us, as Ben cleared his throat. "As per Julia's request we are skipping ahead to the hard questions: For the not Millers, what is your partner's brother's job?"

I heard Rachel let out a groan. It sounded liek she was not going to get the point for this one. Luckily I had just met Lili's brothers otherwise, I never would have known. I quickly jotted down both an NFL player and a comedian, and held the answers to my chest waiting for Ben to continue.

"VO, you are up first," Ben decided.

"He is retired," Vanessa said confidently.

"Retired," Oscar agreed as he showed the room his answer. Ben granted VO the point.

"LJ, you are up next," Ben told us.

"In order of how much she loves them: a footballer and a comedian."

Lili laughed in surprise, but she showed the room her answer and we had written the exact same thing. We low-fived again.

"What team does your brother play for?" Ben asked.

"The Cowboys," Lili told him.

"Fuck the Cowboys," my tio Felipe said while holding Charlie in his lap.

"Papi," Rachel said as she motioned to her three year old and made eyes at her father that said he was not being polite.

He ignored her. "That team has been in the gutter for years. Only now do they start drafting with their heads out of their asses. The only player on that team who is worth half a cent is Noah Dawson."

I saw Lili smile from the corner of my eye. She got up and went over to my uncle. She bent down until they were face to face, then she stuck out her right hand. "Hi," she said with her sweet smile. "My name is Lili Dawson."

My uncle looked startled but he shook my girlfriend's hand, "really?"

"Yes," she replied honestly. "And I am a die-hard Cowboy's fan, so you had best believe that the Cowboys game is the one that I will be watching on Thanksgiving."

He looked vaguely impressed by her as she stood up and walked back to her seat.

"I don't suppose your other brother is famous too?" Ben joked.

Lili chuckled a little awkwardly, "Not quite as much."

"DR," Ben prompted moving the game along.

Rachel sighed with dismay before turning her answer around. "Real Estate Agent?" she guessed.

"General in the Navy," Darren corrected his wife as he swung his answer around. Rachel deflated. "Good try though honey."

"Okay that is a point for VO, a point for LJ and an embarrassing loss for DR, but they can still make a comeback. Question Three: Not Millers, what is your partner's favorite flavor of ice cream?"

Lili didn't even have to think for a second before jotting the answer down. I smiled at how well she knew me.

We waited until everyone had written their answers down.

"Starting with JL," Ben prompted.

"Josh likes Rum Raisin because he is an old man," Lili told my family.

They all laughed and I guiltily revealed my answer to be rum raisin.

"Give us more interesting questions," Kelly complained.

"Like what?" Ben asked his sister impatiently.

"You'd let me ask one?" she asked suspiciously.

"Fine," Ben agreed with a roll of his eyes.

"Where is the first place you had sex as a couple?"

Of course.

It was just my luck truly. I could feel my heart beating out of my chest. I sure as hell wasn't going to tell them that the first time I had sex with Josh, or sex at all, was upstairs last night.

But I had to think, because Josh was going to write something too. He wouldn't expose us like that right? No, of course not. But what would he say instead? A bed? That felt like something Josh might say. I would still be mortified. Was Josh's family religious? Would they be mad if we had sex beofre marriage? Were they going to think that I was a whore?

"Hey," Josh whispered to me. He didn't turn around, but the sound of his voice eased my chest. "Calm down. Answer like you would have any day before this."

"No canoodling," Ben refereed.

"No canoodling here," Josh said.

Ben glanced at us suspiciously, "okay."

Like I would have any day before this? We hadn't had sex any day before this. How could I answer the question?

That was my answer, we hadn't done it yet. God I was a dumbass for not getting that sooner.

I wrote, 'nowhere'. On the whiteboard. With a second thought I added 'yet'.

"Here we go," Ben said. "Lili and Josh, you go first."

I sighed and Josh and I flipped together. "Nowhere... yet." Ben read off of both of our sheets. We both turned around and looked at each other.

"Hell ya!" we said at the same time. We high fived, and he grabbed my hand, pulling me closer. Our lips met, chastely, but Josh's family whistled nevertheless.

I blushed, and I pulled away from Josh. He didn't let me get far. He wrapped an arm around my shoulders and squeezed my further shoulder.
