Quick before you read this chapter! Go back and reread Chapter 4 I made some edits! And added a whole new section of the beginning awards thingy! Peace!
Max stands at my side as Jonny enters the cave.
Sweat trickles my forehead as my fever rises.
Jonny comes out looking angry.
"She wasn't in there." He says looking towards the ground, "Come on."
He starts off towards the cornacopia.
We have been living there since they decided they weren't coming out of this alive. The night I was crowned "Victor."
"Could we stop?" I say half way there.
Max sets me down on a falled tree and I unwrap my ankle.
"It's swelling again." I say biting my jacket sleeve.
Max rubs on some of his old antibiotic cream, pretending it will help.
"Face it I'm a goner." I say looking up at Max. I have repeated these words several times to them.
"Stop saying that Rose. Lover boy can't take it." Jonny says jokingly.
"How could you joke about this!" Max replies.
Both boys have been fighting a lot since the other night. Max has been a lot more resistent you could say.
They start screaming at eachother. Just before Max throws a punch I bud in.
"Max! Stop it! Both of you!" They freeze, "I am not going to sit here pretending like we are just one big happy family! For God's sake we are hunting down a twelve year old girl! Can't you just pretend to care!" I shout at them, "I am literally dying here and not even Max seems to care. I might as well jump off a cliff. I'm the reason we are hunting her. I am the reason both of you won't just shut up! And because you to insist on me winning, can we please commit murder quietly! That's probably the reason we haven't found her yet because you two won't shut up, so she can see us coming! If a deaf man could hear you from two hundred miles away, so can Maddie." I take a deep breath as both boys stare wide eyed at me, not speaking, "Much better. Now Max, be a doll and help me up. Please." I return back to my normal stature and the boys don't say a peep the rest of the walk.

We reach the cornacopia, and still no Maddie Robbins.
Georgia died in a battle at the cornacopia. Jonny sure can put up a fight. My body turned out to be hers. Jonny says that seeing yourself dead is an often hallucination caused by the snake bite. Another reason why they call it the death eater snake, because often the hallucinations caused by the venom have to do with death. That is why Max's face turned into a skull and Georgia turned into me.
I just don't get it though. How I couldn't have seen the snake. I mean when I run I often keep my eyes on the ground. I don't know how it couldn't have shown up somewhere in my vision.
"Might as well spend the night here. I'll take the first shift from here until midnight, Max you take Midnight till dawn. Good?" Max nods.
I've gotten used to no responsibility the past few days. But it does get slightly boring.
Hopping through the rows and rows of boxes I finally make it to a some what sturdy box in the very back of the cornacopia. I curl up in a ball and Max joins me, using my theigh as a pillow.
"Night." I whisper.
"Night Rosie." He whispers back.
***************************************************************************************************************
When I wake up Max is still on my theigh and Jonny still stands on his watching post. A blanket was placed on me during the night and I grab at it shivering.
"Morning." Max says yawning.
I nod and direct my attention towards the enterance. A sliver of the pink morning sky greets our corner with a triangle of sunlight directly on my eyes. I examine the traingle moving my hand back and forward over it.
"You guys awake back there?" Jonny asks.
"Yeah!" I shout back.
Max helps me off of the box and walks me over to Jonny.
After digging through boxes, Max comes back with Hydrogen Peroxide, a clean bandage and three bagels with cut up apples on top.
"Looks like the careers left some stuff behind." He grins and bites into his bagel.
"Looks yummy!" I smile back and gulp down my bagel and an entire canteen of water.
"Hungry much?" Jonny teases.
"You would be too if you burning all your calories trying to fight off a fatal disease!" I say through a mouthful of another bagel.

We all laugh and for the first time since I entered this games, I truly am happy. That is before reality sets in.
"Maddie. Has she come around?" I ask. Jonny suddenly looks serious.
"Nah. Just a couple of squirrels." He replies.
"Oh." I say turning red.
"I better change your bandage." Max buds in and hoists me up bringing me into the cornacopia once again.
He pores hydrogen peroxide on the wound, and it bubbles fiercly sending a stinging pain up my leg.
I scream at the pain this time letting myself cry. After he bandages it he holds me and lets me cry it out.
My head is burried in the crevice of his neck when we hear the beeping.
I can't move myself, so Max moves me for me. He carries me outside where a silver parachute is just landing.
Jonny picks it up.
"It is adressed to you." He hands it to me as Max sets me down on the ground.
I open it up and inside is two things. A syringe with a liquid inside and a note.
Morophine. Use it wisely. Shoot the whole damn syringe into your arm. It should help with the pain. Refills on the way.
Haymitch.
"What's in it?" Max asks.
I take the syringe and stab it into my arm. It stings for a second but soon I am numb.
My ankle stops throbbing and I slowly stand up.
I wobble but catch my balance. I limp towards Max and pat him on the back.
"Morophine. Which means sleep in my language. I don't do good on painkillers. You may want to back away." I reply happily.
The last time I took morophine I had hallucinations and acted like a complete lunatic. I talked to Genyss the Llama all morning. A fictional Llama that could speak. Basically I was schitzophrenic for the day. But eventually the side effects wore off and I was left numb and filled with energy. I'd rather sleep through the side effects.
I limp towards the back of the cornacopia and prepare to sleep the day away.
***************************************************************************************************************
We stay at the cornacopia for several days keeping an eye out for Maddie. Each day we follow the same routine.
Wake up.
Eat breakfast.
I take my morophine.
I sleep.
I wake up.
We all eat.
We all sleep.
But tonight was different. I woke up with a slight headache and the world seemed to be on fire, but when I blinked everything was back to normal.
I limped out of bed and towards the boys who were chatting quietly amongst themselves.
"Morning." Jonny says not taking his eyes of a piece of paper in front of him.
"What's that?" I ask. But I'd recognize the tatered paper anywhere, "My map!"
"You never told us you had one." Max replies seeming angry.
"You never asked." I turn away heading for the forest.
"Just where do you thing you are going?" Jonny asks.
"To make a fire! Boredom is killing me! Come on Genyss!" Did I just say that? And sure enough a black llama comes prancing along beside me, "Damn it!I really wanted to sleep through this." I shout.
"Huh?" Is all to be heard from behind.
I try to ignore the llama beside me, but I get bored and talk to him quietly while picking up fire wood.
When we, I mean, I, get back to camp. The llama and I are completely caught up. It turns out his wife had a baby, and they named it after Max. So it is now Maxwell Peeta Prance Genyss Llama the first.
The fire turns out pretty well and I roast a few suirrels on it. I season them with apple juice and leave a few pieces for the llama.
The boys ignore my quiet mumbling and scarf down their food.
When the sky is dark and the moon has risen. The anthem begins to play. It is the first time I have been awake for the anthem in days.
The presidents picture appears on the sky. And underneath are the words: May the odds be ever in your favor.
Genyss laughs.
"Goodnight Max, Jonny and Genyss." I say skipping off towards bed.
As I pull the blanket over my head I hear the boys begin to laugh.
"Best night ever! Goodnight Genyss! I hope you have a wonderful sleep!" Blah! Blah! Blah! Can't they just leave a girl to rest!
I fall asleep with an image of a llama in my mind.

A King in the Clouds
Tanlar. A cruel, repulsive, and foul word. It meant untitled, officially, but it also meant ungifted, unable, unworthy, unnecessary, unhuman. It was more a curse than a term, a badge only the damned and condemned wore. To be a tanlar was to know your life, your entire being, was insignificant. Once Kaizer had resigned himself to such a fate, but those times had passed. He may have been untitled, but he was anything but untalented. He refused to scrape by at the bottom of society. Those who stood above him could sneer all they liked, but he wouldn’t suffer being stepped on for long. He’d be better, much better. But of course he would be. ‘Fate’ demanded it so. [Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] What To Expect: The story of a boy becoming a man becoming a king + everything that entails. Largely gamelit, but later arcs could be called litrpg. Also schemes. A lot of schemes. I do love some good ol' fantasy politics and intrigue. Minimum Word Count a Week: TBA after Writathon Release Time(s): Daily for as long as I can/until the end of the Writathon. I also write The Deathseeker [Returning Dec 5th]
