Dedication to kimomonibow for the wonderful banner! Thankyou :)
I met Logan in the dinner hall for lunch. It was the first time we were eating with the other tributes, and after my encounter with the Careers, I didn’t feel like mingling. Having said this, many of the tributes sat alone anyway. With large portions on our plates, we sat at the table in the corner of the room, well away from the cackles and rowdiness of the Career tributes.
“How did this morning’s training go?” I asked Logan.
“Pretty well. I’ve learnt how to start a fire. And how to make snares. I plan to build up my knowledge on plants after lunch. How about you?”
“Good,” I said vaguely. I didn’t think he’d be very impressed if he knew about my encounter with Roger. “But I know nothing about the other tributes, which sucks.”
“I know the names of some of them, if that helps.”
“Go on.”
“District One. Roger and Layla. District Two has Minerva and Cerebus. Clementia is the girl from 8. They were the ones that stood out. I’ve been doing a bit of eavesdropping.”
We gossiped some more about the other tributes. I told him how Roger was incompetent with knives, and silently hoped he was with all weapons. Though he said his weapon was a spear, which worried me. Knives are decent for wounding, at a distance or up close, but a well thrown spear will kill you. My fear must have come across to Logan, as he cocked his head and stared at me closely.
“What are you thinking?” he asked. I shook my head, dredging up a smile.
“Nothing,” I said. A moment later, there was a small cough from behind me. I turned to see the girl from 8, Clementia, beaming down at me.

“Hi,” she said, waving nervously, whilst balancing her tray of food on her leg “Can I…can I sit with you? I don’t really fancy sitting on my own and…the others are kind of intimidating.”
I really wasn’t expecting that, and it shocked me slightly. Aside from the Careers, tributes don’t normally mix, especially when they come from different districts. I found myself gawping at her, and it was a good job Logan was there to answer her.
“Of course. Have a seat.”
Clementia smiled warmly and sat in the seat beside me.
“I really loved the costumes you wore for the opening ceremonies,” she said conversationally “I wouldn’t be surprised if you had sponsors already!”
“You looked stunning too,” Logan complimented in a tone I knew only too well. He was flirting with her. I felt a pang of irritation. Clementia, however, blushed furiously and giggled.
“Thank you! So, tell me. What’s it like in your district?”
Logan and Clementia chatted for the rest of the meal, whilst I tried to ignore them. Clementia was a lovely girl, but it annoyed me that Logan was flirting with her. I didn’t know why. Besides, I knew that Logan was a flirt. He wasn’t going to change. And she was attractive in every way. Beautiful. Funny. Friendly. Intelligent. I could go on forever. She was pretty much my definition of perfect. And obviously Logan’s too.
A buzzer sounded, signalling the end of lunch, and indicating that we should be returning to the training hall. Clementia said goodbye to us, and darted off. Soon enough, Logan and I were left alone. I didn’t want to talk to him. I took my time tidying my food away, hoping he’d get the message and leave. He didn’t. He leaned against the table and folded his arms, a smirk painted on his face.

“What’s up with you, hmm? Why are you being moody all of a sudden?”
“I’m not,” I growled, turning my back and stalking towards the door. He caught up with me so he was walking by my side.
“Talk to me! What’s your problem?”
“You! You’re such a flirt!”
Logan grinned “You love it though.”
“I can honestly say I don’t. The way you were drooling over Clementia…”
“You’re just jealous.”
“Why on earth would I be jealous?”
“Because you like me.”
“I don’t.”
“Do.”
“Don’t!”
“Well, I can see you’re not going to admit it. But I know you do.”
I glared at him, but as usual, I found it impossible to stay mad with him. His laughing eyes gleamed and he pulled me into a rough hug. I clung tight and closed my eyes. Time was running out for both of us. A pain filled my body, an ache for him. I needed him. My best friend. My only friend. I realised then that when he left me, I’d be all alone again. He poked me in the ribs to make me laugh, but he didn’t notice the tears streaming down my cheeks.

The Lady's Handbook of Intrigue and Murder (High Fantasy Politics)
Summary:The daughter of a dying house is summoned to the Imperial City to meet and perhaps marry a handsome prince. It sounds like a fairy tale. Except Mydea doesn’t have the advantage of a half-forgotten childhood encounter, supreme magic to match the highest echelons of society, or even the privilege of an ally. In order to survive and make a name for herself, she must beat the Imperial Court at its own game. At least no one's tried to kill her—yet. Notes: Basically, if you liked the magic of Harry Potter and the politics of Game of Thrones, you'll probably like this. While the first book focuses on the female lead, and the interplay of competing regional and imperial interests, subsequent books will also cover warfare and how I imagine that differs wildly from historical norms with the introductions of a magical aristocracy. 8 144Arcane Regeneration
Transported to another world, with a system that lets you take your fate into your own hands. Inside a dungeon, who knows how far away from human civilization, where the only way out is through. Join Noah in his desperate struggle and find out what this new world has in store for him. I am REALLY bad at synopses. What I will aim for in my story: 1. Logical choices 2. Good character development ( first story, might mess it up :D ) 3. I have epic plans for the future (not an actual aim but just saying :D ) What I will avoid like the plague: 1. Characters' IQ suddenly dropping just to further the story. 2. Whimpy main character 3. Stupid situations that can be avoided by basic communication and clearing things up. All in all, no generic trash anime protagonist and stereotypes. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
8 174Core Microsystem
Amara has spent most of her life with her parents, either switching the time they spent with her or leaving her alone most of the time. On her sixteenth birthday, her parents were a no-show. But to make up for their no-show, they did give her a gift. A gift that was going to be coveted by a lot of people who played virtual reality games. This gift would allow her to become something, to be someone in the world. To not be the kid whose parents have left her to fend for herself since she was ten. When the new game, Core Microsystem, came out, there was a twist. A twist that changed a lot of people’s lives. When a player went to create their character sheet, a random generator would offer them the chance to become a dungeon core in this new world. Watch as Amara creates her dungeon and how that affects her life in the real world.
8 172Conquest of Avalon
Revenge. The Kingdom of Avalon swept across the Empire of the Fox a generation past, conquering the heartlands and leaving the broken remnants to stew in the island duchy of Guerron. This isn't a story of Good versus Evil, of kindly kings doing their best to lift all subjects, or of unvarnished heroes doing battle against evil. Instead, this story is about power: who has it, who wants it, and what people will do to obtain it. It is about the violence inherent in the imperial project and how even the most well-intentioned rulers and conquerors are, still, engaging in systemic violence against those conquered and defeated. Our three point-of-view characters are a peasant turned fire wizard, an excitable duelist with more enthusiasm than sense, and a scheming mage-priestess bent on reclaiming her family's birthright and waging war on the foreign oppressors who rule her home... no matter the cost in blood or treasure.
8 157The White Dragon (Inactive)
This is a story about Michiko, a woman that was taken by a god to be reincarnated in a new world. In this new world she will apply her knowledge and willpower to become strong and live a happy and exciting life. But life in this new world is not easy so she will also have to overcome great dangers. So follow Michiko's new life in a new world where she will strive for knowledge happiness and power. Author's note: the new world where Michiko is reincarnated is more or less the world of Warhammer. There will probably be some things that are inconsistent with the lore and I will be making some assumptions of my own so please don't quote me on it. Please post any problems you find down in the comments. Lastly I hope you have as much fun reading as I have writing it :)
